There are currently 96 commercial nuclear reactors spread across the United States, located in 30 different states. The first nuclear reactor built in the US was constructed in 1954 in Simi Valley California. Nearly all the nuclear reactors in the US were either built or proposed in the following two and a half decades. During the 1950s and 1960s nuclear power was still in its infancy and the general public was mesmerized by the wonders of this new form of energy. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a manifestation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, which results in many different complications including left ventricular (LV) thrombi.

Case summary: We present a 30-year-old female presenting with chest pain and shortness of breath. Patient had an extensive history including heart failure with an ejection fraction 15-20% and COVID-19 2 months ago. Echocardiogram revealed a 3.3 cm ×  1.7 cm LV thrombus which was not present 4 months ago before her diagnosis of COVID-19. New onset gait dysfunction often prompts admission to the hospital for further evaluation. The typical patient is an elderly person who normally is self-sufficient but had recently experienced a decline in their ability to care for themselves. Sometimes, however, those who present with gait dysfunction do not fit the expected demographic. These individuals raise concern for less common “zebra” presentations of neurological dysfunction. Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute coronary syndrome or sudden death. SCAD has a high incidence in a younger, female population with an association with peripartum or postpartum status. Connective tissue disorders and vasculitides are also associated with SCAD. The purpose of this poster will be to examine the presentation and risk factors associated with SCAD and to discuss optimal treatment strategies.

Translation is tightly coupled to growth status. Efficient protein synthesis is necessary for cell growth in nutrient rich environments, while global translation inhibition combined with selective translation of stress-responsive mRNAs helps limit growth in times of stress. Environmental stress cues which inhibit the nutrient-sensing complex TORC1 are known to reduce general translation, but how does the cell alter protein synthesis machinery to adapt to these conditions? Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects approximately 3.8 million Americans a year and results in complex neuropathological and neurocognitive sequelae. Animal models of TBI attempt to replicate the impact forces and pathology of injury in humans. However, in these models, the forces generated at the time of impact are poorly understood. Nonetheless, a variety of shear and strain forces generated at the time of impact can produce diffuse axonal injury. Injury to axons and neurons across a variety of brain regions resulting from axonal injury underlies the cognitive and behavioral impairments observed after TBI. BACKGROUND: Polyclonal convalescent plasma may be obtained from donors who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). The efficacy of this plasma in preventing serious complications in outpatients with recent-onset Covid-19 is uncertain.

METHODS: In this multicenter, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of Covid-19 convalescent plasma, as compared with control plasma, in symptomatic adults (≥18 years of age) who had tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, regardless of their risk factors for disease progression or vaccination status. On October 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy caused nearly $19 billion in damages in New York City including 69,000 residential units across the five boroughs. This disaster precipitated a post-disaster-rebuilding (PDR) project including roughly $4.2 billion in a Community Development Block Grant allocated towards PDR projects. A portion of the grant was used to construct a living breakwater in Tottenville, Staten Island, consisting of a resiliency approach to risk reduction through erosion prevention, wave energy attenuation, and enhancement of ecosystems and social resiliency to improve resistance to storms for the community of Tottenville. Medieval Feminist Forum: A Journal of Gender and Sexuality

The penultimate verse of Henryson’s Testament of Cresseid suggests the possibility that Troilus raised a monument in memory of his former love, Cresseid: “Sum said he maid ane tomb of merbell gray” (l. 603). Examining the political implications of this uncertain act of memorialisation, this article considers how Henryson's poem mobilises the reader's emotional response to constitute Cresseid as a mourned subject, whose subjectivity is recognised only insofar as it is limited to suffering and death. In doing so, the Testament also establishes a subjectivity for women that offers conditional tolerance predicated on respectable behaviour, contributing to the historical production …

Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae is a microscopic myxozoan parasite of freshwater bryozoans and salmonid fish. Infection by T. bryosalmonae under certain environmental conditions causes a deadly immune response in salmonid hosts known as proliferative kidney disease (PKD). Although T. bryosalmonae is present in rivers in western Montana, its distribution, as well as that of its bryozoan hosts, is poorly understood. Environmental chemistry, environmental DNA (eDNA), and bryozoan surveys were conducted at 10 study sites on the Big Hole River and Madison River to assess the presence of the parasite and bryozoans in these areas. This Article traces the evolution of the definiteness requirement over the course of two centuries. From the time of inventions relating to flour mills, the definiteness requirement evolved into the consequence for drafting uninterpretable claims. Without considering the reasons for this evolution, the Supreme Court in its Nautilus decision returned the standard for assessing definiteness to its root form. Given the consequences are the loss of patent rights, this Article grapples with the Supreme Court’s decision during an era where complex and convergent technologies are more commonplace. Overtreatment and overuse of antibiotics in healthcare and agricultural settings have contributed to the selective pressure on bacterial strains to develop resistance. Resistance can develop as a result of mutations and subsequent resistance genes that allow bacteria to survive against antibiotics. Novel silver-oxide coatings were developed and were previously demonstrated to prevent adhesion of gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia Coli and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa) to the disc, but did not prevent gram-positive bacterial adherence (Streptococcus Aureus). Warfarin is the preferred method of anticoagulation for stroke prophylaxis in patients with hypercoagulable disorders

A deficiency of protein S increases the risk of pro coagulation due to a relative deficiency of anticoagulants.
