Semantic Indexing And Retrieval Of Web Pages In A Web Browser, Duc-Hieu Tran May 2022

Semantic Indexing And Retrieval Of Web Pages In A Web Browser, Duc-Hieu Tran

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques for semantic indexing and retrieval of web pages. Per techniques of this disclosure, a web browser includes a semantic bookmark system that indexes the web page content and enables subsequent retrieval of the web page via a semantic search. A content extraction model is applied to extract the content of a web page that is bookmarked. The extracted content is semantically indexed, linked with the corresponding uniform record locator (URL), and stored. During web page content retrieval, bookmarks corresponding to a user search query are retrieved and provided to the user. Semantic indexing and retrieval enables …

A multi-functional carrier comprises several cut-outs sections, fixation points, and promise springs to secure the cooktop components. One such cooktop component is called the “connector module.” The connector module is placed in a specific area of the multi-functional carrier and comprises a pin box, a plurality of sockets, and a group …

Light Structuring And Reflecting Optical System., Punarjeewa Abeysekera May 2022

Light Structuring And Reflecting Optical System., Punarjeewa Abeysekera

Defensive Publications Series

This paper describes a method to structure the light collected by a primary lens stack and to reflect them towards a set of image sensors. A primary lens stack collects light and projects the light towards four cyclically arranged reflectors. These four cyclically arranged reflectors direct the reflected light beams into four cyclically arranged image sensors through four cyclically arranged secondary lens stacks. The four images that are generated at the four image sensors will be combined through the utilization of computing resources to form into a one single image.

Access Control Policy Enforcement Through Route-Based Micro-Segmentation And Contract Tags, Victor Moreno, Sanjay Hooda, Steve Wood May 2022

Access Control Policy Enforcement Through Route-Based Micro-Segmentation And Contract Tags, Victor Moreno, Sanjay Hooda, Steve Wood

Defensive Publications Series

Large networks service a significant number of endpoints, each of which access a sizable number of applications. This results in the definition of access control policies that are extremely lengthy and therefore difficult to render in common network elements, such as routers and switches, due to the limited amount of memory (such as ternary content-addressable memory (TCAM)) that is included in such platforms for the enforcement of policies. To address the type of challenge that was described above, various solutions are provided herein through several techniques. A first technique supports, among other things, the scaling of the access control entries …

Land Acknowledgments At Land-Grant Libraries And Archives: A Systematic Review, Kimberly Anderson May 2022

Land Acknowledgments At Land-Grant Libraries And Archives: A Systematic Review, Kimberly Anderson

Journal of Western Archives

Increasingly, land-grant universities are acknowledging their history of benefitting from colonization and the dispossession of Indigenous communities through the Morrill Act of 1862. This study looks at whether academic libraries and archives acknowledge this history in the form of online land acknowledgments; and, where such acknowledgements exist, whether the university also acknowledges its occupation of Indigenous lands. A systematic review of the websites of land-grant colleges and universities and their libraries and archives was conducted. The results indicate that a majority of 1862 land-grant colleges and universities do have a land acknowledgment for the entire campus, but most academic libraries …

Female Sex Offenders: Double Standards, Sofia Enes May 2022

Female Sex Offenders: Double Standards, Sofia Enes

Kean Quest

This paper will discuss female pedophiles, rapists, and sex offenders, also known as female sex criminals, the double standards, of how they are viewed in the criminal justice system, how the medical fields view them, the psychological effects of their actions on their victims, and how the public views them. Unlike male pedophiles, rapists, and sex offenders of that gender; female pedophiles are not as readily identified as male pedophiles. Since female sex criminals do not always conform and fit the stereotypes that are more commonly found in male sex criminals, it is much more difficult for authorities to detain …

Pursuit Of Happiness In Alternate Realities: The Intersection Of Queerness And The Metaphysical In Haruki Murakami’S Sputnik Sweetheart, Katelyn Morris May 2022

Pursuit Of Happiness In Alternate Realities: The Intersection Of Queerness And The Metaphysical In Haruki Murakami’S Sputnik Sweetheart, Katelyn Morris

Kean Quest

This research aims to examine the intersection of queerness and the metaphysical in Haruki Murakami’s Sputnik Sweetheart. I intend to accomplish this by focusing on the instances of magical realism as they are presented throughout the narrative and deconstruct them through the escapades of the explicitly queer protagonist Sumire. Sumire is an individual who has never felt sexual desire until she encounters an older woman named Miu. However, Miu underwent a bizarre, fantastical encounter many years ago that “split her in two” as the text puts it, and her ability to feel sexual desire joined her other half on …

Exploring Gender Identity In College Sports, Simone Cooper, Brandon Bernardi

Kean Quest

Awareness and research on gender and sexual identity has advanced significantly in the last decade. Within the sports context, increased understanding of diversity and inclusion has initiated conversations about the experiences of athletes as related to their gender identity. Facilitating inclusive, fair and equitable sport cultures is of utmost importance, and the role of one’s gender and sexual identity deserves further attention. While sports culture is often aggressive and competitive, it also provides athletes with a source of community, support and safety. In a context where masculinity thrives, female athletes and athletes who identify as gender and/or sexual minorities may …

A Weekly Structural Var Model Of The Us Crude Oil Market, Davide Valenti Dr., Andrea Bastianin Dr., Matteo Manera Professor May 2022

A Weekly Structural Var Model Of The Us Crude Oil Market, Davide Valenti Dr., Andrea Bastianin Dr., Matteo Manera Professor

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

We present a weekly structural Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model of the US crude oil market. Exploiting weekly data we can explain short-run crude oil price dynamics, including those related with the COVID-19 pandemic and with the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The model is set identified with a Bayesian approach that allows to impose restrictions directly on structural parameters of interest, such as supply and demand elasticises. Our model incorporates both the futures-spot price spread to capture shocks to the real price of crude oil driven by changes in expectations and US inventories to describe price fluctuations due to unexpected of …

Consecuencias Sociales En El Cine Latinoamericano: Alta Visibilidad De Lo Queer, Tucker Wayne Skipper

World Languages and Cultures Senior Capstones

This presentation explores hegemonic societies in the Caribbean and the Southern Cone of Latin America as framed by the cultural phenomenon of high queer visibility in four films: Fresa y chocolate (1995) by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío, Antes que anochezca (2000) by Julian Schnabel, El beso de la mujer araña (1985) by Héctor Babenco, and Hoy quiero volver solo (2014) by Daniel Ribeiro. It examines the social consequences that each of the main characters must pay to their hegemonic societies because of this visibility. This research also makes a case for compulsive heterosexuality and how the heterosexist …

Geomorphic Traits And Water Chemistry As An Indicator Of Fish Functional Diversity In Scott County, Ia And Rock Island County, Il, Diego Cruz, Kevin Geedey, Ben Ford

Independent Research Projects

Fish species diversity is a widely used indicator of stream health, however, the relationship between the functional diversity of fish communities and stream health is less documented. Although functional and species diversity are often related, it is also the case that functional diversity may reveal levels of community health or impairment that species based approaches may miss. Functional diversity has been previously defined as the diversity of functional traits, such as fin length. We will define functional diversity as the variance of fish trophic guilds according to the IA DNR reference. Fish were categorized as benthic invertivore, filter, generalist, herbivore, …

House As Ritual: Stories Of Gender, Space, And Caste In Colonial Kerala, Devi Nayar May 2022

House As Ritual: Stories Of Gender, Space, And Caste In Colonial Kerala, Devi Nayar

Masters of Environmental Design Theses

Kerala, the southwestern state of Independent India, had gained its distinct architectural heritage by the time the British East India Company began colonizing India in the 17th century. Upper caste Nambuthiris and Nayars organized their agrarian homesteads — four-winged courtyard houses with gender as their axis of internal regulation. Although the house layout remained the same, the gendered inhabitation varied based on caste. On their arrival, British colonists began reordering and reshaping this native cosmos into a perceived anglicized 'normative'[1]. The existing political and social terrains were fractured, revised, and reworked to create an anglicized model of society. …

Turismo En Nicaragua: Los Éxitos Y Fracasos De La Última Esperanza De Un Gobierno, Julia Devane May 2022

Turismo En Nicaragua: Los Éxitos Y Fracasos De La Última Esperanza De Un Gobierno, Julia Devane

World Languages and Cultures Senior Capstones

After decades of political instability left the people of Nicaragua to suffer with homelessness and poverty, the government turned to the tourism industry as a last effort to generate much-needed revenue, which had initially promised economic results. This essay will argue that the tourism industry was developed unsustainably for local populations and explain how the government's push for a tourism industry focused only on the needs of the tourists visiting their country rather than the needs of the locals participating in the tourism industry.

Abordando La Brecha De Desigualdad En Chile: Inquietud Civil Y Política, Savannah Taylor

World Languages and Cultures Senior Capstones

This essay analyzes the underlying causes of the socioeconomic and income inequalities from which Chile still suffers. Moving through a brief historical analysis, it discusses such inequalities from the perspective of the 2019 protests. Finally, the essay identifies three primary potential causes of the unrest and inequality. The unequal education system, unstable political institutions, and disagreement of the management of valuable natural resources all exist as a barrier to achieving a satisfactory level of equality among the people of Chile.

Sub-Nyquist Optical Pulse Sampling For Photonic Blind Source Separation, Taichu Shi, Yang Qi, Weipeng Zhang, Paul Prucnal, Jie Li, Ben Wu May 2022

Sub-Nyquist Optical Pulse Sampling For Photonic Blind Source Separation, Taichu Shi, Yang Qi, Weipeng Zhang, Paul Prucnal, Jie Li, Ben Wu

Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering Departmental Research

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical pulse sampling method for photonic blind source separation. The photonic system processes and separates wideband signals based on the statistical information of the mixed signals, and thus the sampling frequency can be orders of magnitude lower than the bandwidth of the signals. The ultra-fast optical pulses collect samples of the signals at very low sampling rates, and each sample is short enough to maintain the statistical properties of the signals. The low sampling frequency reduces the workloads of the analog to digital conversion and digital signal processing systems. In the meantime, the short …
