Neutron-induced reactions play an important role in fundamental nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, and applications. In the case of reactions on rare isotopes, there are limited options for direct experimental measurements. The Neutron Target Demonstrator project at Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks to test the feasibility of moderating spallation neutrons within a 1 m³graphite cube to create a standing neutron target for neutron-induced reaction measurements in inverse kinematics. Radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) has emerged as a transformative modality in oncology, particularly for patients with metastatic or inoperable tumors. By leveraging molecularly targeted carriers conjugated to cytotoxic radionuclides, RPT enables precise delivery of ionizing radiation to tumor sites while minimizing off-target effects. Central to this approach are alpha (α) and beta (β) particle-emitting radionuclides. Background

Despite evidence for a genetic component, few genetic associations with lung function decline have been identified. We aimed to evaluate genome-wide associations and putative downstream functionality of genetic variants for lung function decline.

Methods

We conducted genome-wide association study (GWAS) analyses of decline in FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC in 52,056 White (N = 44,988), Black (N = 5,788), Hispanic (N = 550), and Chinese American (N = 730) participants across seven general population cohorts. Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (MPS IVA) is caused by the accumulation of undegraded glycosaminoglycans due to the deficiency of the N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfate sulfatase (GALNS) enzyme. MPS IVA manifests as progressive systemic skeletal dysplasia. Gene therapy (GT) is potentially a one-time treatment in which the enzyme is continuously produced, circulated, and delivered to target tissues. However, immune responses to gene products can diminish therapeutic efficacy. We hypothesized that oral delivery of tolerogenic peptides induces immune tolerance to human GALNS (hGALNS) in MPS IVA mice, enhancing therapeutic efficacy. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of luminol has been studied on a screen-printed gold electrode for a simple and sensitive detection of arsenic ions (As(III)). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was applied as the proposed technique to study luminol’s electrochemical behavior and to evaluate the arsenic’s effect in the ECL system, while hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) served as a co-reactant to enhance luminol’s light emission under alkaline conditions. To achieve optimal electrode performance, key parameters including pH, scan rate, and the concentrations of H₂O₂ and luminol were carefully optimized. Anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) porous films with an interpore distance of several hundred nanometers are of great interest due to their unique interaction with visible and near-infrared light, and high thermal stability up to 1500 °C. These porous films are prepared by aluminium anodizing at high voltages in weak acids, leading to a slow kinetics of initial stages of porous structure formation. Here, we propose an approach to accelerate AAO formation in electrolytes based on weak acids such as phosphoric acid. Scholarship on ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system has predominantly focused on disparities at a single decision-making point, mainly at sentencing, while earlier decision points remain underexamined or are studied in isolation to sentencing decisions. Using linked Ministry of Justice Data First datasets from criminal courts in England and Wales, this study assesses ethnic disparities at multiple decision points—from pre-sentencing to sentencing. Findings from multilevel logistic regression models demonstrate ethnic disparities across decision points, evidencing more pronounced disparities at pre-sentencing stages. Black and mixed ethnicity defendants consistently experience more disadvantaged outcomes, being more likely to be detained prior to …

Biophilic design integrates nature into architecture to enrich sensory and cognitive experiences, enhance psychological well-being, and improve performance. This study explores its physiological and neural effects in design studios at King Salman International University through an experimental methodology combining theoretical review and lab-based investigation. Tools included electrocardiography (ECG) for heart rate variability (HRV), eye-tracking for visual attention, and the Self-Assessment Manikin (SAM) for emotional evaluation. Nine participants viewed five digital architectural scenes with varying biophilic integration. Direct nature connections elicited greater visual attention, pleasure, and perceived control, indicating higher engagement and relaxation.  A scene lacking biophilic elements led to reduced …

Colorenal fistula is a rare condition resulting from chronic inflammation, malignancies, diverticulitis, or infection. This case examines a 68-year-old female with a history of urinary urgency, left back pain, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Anteroposterior non-contrast computed tomography scan showed a large stone in the renal pelvis and gas in the collecting system. Left ureteroscopy revealed multiple ureteral polyps. Retrograde pyelogram revealed contrast filling the left colon. Ureteral polyp biopsies were benign, and colonoscopy was negative for malignancy. This case describes the occurrence of a colorenal fistula in a patient with no history of surgery, malignancy, or diverticulitis.

Prenatal stress is related to the development of psychiatric disorders involving inflammation, oxidative stress, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of prenatal stress on behavior, inflammation, oxidative stress, and the HPA-axis in the dams and their offspring treated with lithium. Thirteen pregnant Wistar rats were exposed to a prenatal chronic unpredictable stress protocol from the 14th day of gestation until birth. At the 60th postnatal day (PND), a treatment protocol was carried out in the offspring with lithium (intraperitoneally - 47.5 mg/kg) or saline for seven days (twice a day). …

Polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs), characterised by multinucleation and atypical nuclear morphology, are a common feature of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas. While PGCCs may be a critical substrate for cancer evolution, their formation pathways and genomic consequences remain underexplored. In this study, we characterise PGCCs in ten pleomorphic sarcomas and use topographic single-cell DNA sequencing (scDNA-seq) to investigate their genomic landscape. This paper provides a comparative analysis of the embryonic Surrealism of two well-known figures of the era: Jamil Hamoudi, an Iraqi surrealist artist, and Aminullah Rezaei, an Iranian surrealist artist. The results found that Surrealism in Iraq associated itself with cultural identity and sacred symbolism, unveiling Hamoudi as the merger of geometry, calligraphy, and warm colours, towards reshaping the collective unconscious and reformulating Eastern spirituality in a modernist fashion. This study aims to analyze public perception of the nationalism-themed film Merah Putih: One for All through netizen comments on social media. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. Data were collected from comments on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X (Twitter) during the initial release period of the film. The analysis focuses on how audiences interpret values of nationalism, unity, and the relevance of the film’s message within contemporary social contexts. This study aims to describe the representation of cultural elements and cultural values in Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) Level II teaching materials. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using documentation techniques to analyze textual and visual data from the textbook. Data analysis was conducted through a coding process based on Koentjaraningrat’s classification of cultural elements and Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck’s value orientation framework. The findings indicate that the teaching materials represent six out of seven cultural elements, namely social organization, religious systems, arts, livelihood systems, technology and living tools, and language. This study explores the impact of gamification and humor on middle school students' engagement, participation, and learning outcomes. The researcher, an ESL teacher, sought to address students' boredom and disengagement by introducing games and humor into the classroom. The study involved 12 middle school English learners and employed both qualitative and quantitative methods, including journal entries, focus groups, and participation tracking. Findings indicated that students were more engaged and willing to participate during gamified activities, with slight but significant improvements in quiz scores.
