Han Ancient-Style Poetry : The “Nineteen Old Poems” : Interplay Of Images And Emotions : Binary Structure And Multilateral Texture, Zong-Qi Cai
How to Read Chinese Poetry Podcast
Two distinct formal features, binary structure and multilateral texture, are developed in the “Nineteen Old Poems,” the definitive collection of Han pentasyllabic poetry. The rise of these two formal features attests to the profound impact of transitions from oral performance to poetic writing, from the dramatic/narrative to the lyrical mode of self-presentation.

Emergency medical service (EMS) professionals have a stressful vocation, inarguably worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affects their mental health and makes them a vulnerable population warranting further study. However, to date, no published research has compared non-treatment and treatment-seeking EMS professionals in the same greater metropolitan area. In this study, we examined differences and similarities among the non-treatment-seeking EMS professionals (n = 57) from a local EMS agency and treatment-seeking EMS personnel (n = 53) from a non-profit community treatment center on six assessment instruments that measure attachment avoidance, attachment anxiety, resilience, depression, generalized anxiety, posttraumatic stress …

Managing Risk And Knowledge: Frameworks To Guide Knowledge-Enabled Technology Transfer, Martin Lipa Dr, Anne Greene
Level 3
Technology transfer is not only about the transfer of technology, but also about the transfer of knowledge, as evidenced by definitions of KM within the biopharma industry and beyond. However, knowledge transfer is often not well structured and its effectiveness – in particular for tacit knowledge (i.e., know how) – is an opportunity for improvement which can lead to many benefits. This article profiles recent research into the topic of improving knowledge transfer during technology transfer and presents several recently developed frameworks for improving such. The article furthermore explains how the frameworks can be co-deployed in support of robust knowledge …

Grotthuss Molecular Dynamics Simulations For Modeling Proton Hopping In Electrosprayed Water Droplets., Lars Konermann, Scott Kim
Grotthuss Molecular Dynamics Simulations For Modeling Proton Hopping In Electrosprayed Water Droplets., Lars Konermann, Scott Kim
Chemistry Publications
Excess protons in water exhibit unique transport properties because they can rapidly hop along H-bonded water wires. Considerable progress has been made in unraveling this Grotthuss diffusion mechanism using quantum mechanical-based computational techniques. Unfortunately, high computational cost tends to restrict those techniques to small systems and short times. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations can be applied to much larger systems and longer time windows. However, standard MD methods do not permit the dissociation/formation of covalent bonds, such that Grotthuss diffusion cannot be captured. Here, we bridge this gap by combining atomistic MD simulations (using Gromacs and TIP4P/2005 water) with proton hopping. …

Literacy, Language and Culture Faculty Publications and Presentations
The purpose of this document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 51 studies that met inclusion criteria for a systematic review. This systematic review focused on how literacy is incorporated into informal math intervention studies for children in preschool to third grade. We investigated what types of literacy activities were integrated, how literacy was a part of data sources collected, and in what ways literacy was mentioned explicitly by authors in research reports. We coded studies in this systematic review to answer the following research questions: (1) How is literacy incorporated? (2) What …

Evaluating The Accuracy Of Smartphone-Based Travel Behavior Data, Sean J. Barbeau, Wilson Lozano, Shawn Turner, Ipek N. Sener, Michael Maness, Trang Luong
Research Reports
This project evaluated the accuracy and precision of multimodal trip origins and destinations collected using OneBusAway (OBA), an open- source mobile transit app. Accuracy and precision were determined by comparing OBA-collected data with ground truth data manually collected in College Station, Texas, and Tampa, Florida. Researchers made 286 trips (1,568 activity observations) across all devices. The median values for distance and time error for all modes across all devices for detected trips were 47 meters and 59 seconds, respectively. The distance error was larger at the origin than at the destination primarily because the user was in motion during the …

The Perennial Quest: Working Towards Equitable Assessment With Student-Centric Learning Contracts, Matthew W. Schering
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines the role of writing assessment in college composition courses, and how issues including learning aversion, access to technology, and white-language supremacy can harm our assessment practices and pedagogy. Writing assessment is one of the most important aspects of teaching and is a significant factor in shaping students’ attitudes about their abilities as writers. While writing assessment is of tremendous importance, effectively and equitably assessing student writing can be difficult, especially when teaching diverse student populations. In an effort improve the quality of writing assessment, this dissertation focused on developing Student-Centric Learning Contracts (SCLCs) as a more effective …

Stereocontrolled Access To Δ-Lactone-Fused-Γ-Lactams Bearing Angular Benzylic Quaternary Stereocenters, Timothy K. Beng, Morgan J. Rodriguez, Claire Borg
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences
C-fused γ-lactam-lactones are resident in several bioactive molecules, including anticancer agents such as omuralide. In this embodiment, we report mild conditions for the catalytic halolactonization of lactam-tethered 5-aryl-4(E)-pentenoic acids. The use of dichloromethane as the solvent and Ph3PS as the catalyst led to predominant 6-endo-trig cyclization and furnished the trans-fused-γ-lactam-δ-lactones. The transformation is modular, regioselective, chemoselective, and diastereoselective. The γ-lactam-δ-lactones bear angular quaternary benzylic stereocenters, which is noteworthy since the presence of a quaternary carbon in bioactive small molecules often promotes an element of conformational restriction that imparts potency, selectivity, and metabolic stability. The …

Tensions And Pitfalls In The Depiction Of Multiracial Characters In Children's Picture Books: A Critical Content Analysis, Melody Green
Tensions And Pitfalls In The Depiction Of Multiracial Characters In Children's Picture Books: A Critical Content Analysis, Melody Green
Theses and Dissertations
The United States is becoming more and more multiracial, but little research attends to multiracial characters in children’s picture books. This research employed a critical content analysis using the lens of critical race theory to examine eight children’s picture books published after 2000. This study sought to answer two questions. First, using a critical race theory lens, what patterns and tensions emerge in the depictions of multiracial characters in children’s picture books? Secondly, how do the depictions of multiracial characters in children’s picture books perpetuate deconstructed conceptualizations of multiracial identity? Common themes that presented themselves in this study were (a) …
