While a growing body of literature suggests a role for infections in Alzheimer's disease (AD), microbial contributions to AD remains a contentious topic, in part due to challenges in reconciling the positive evidence with studies reporting null findings. Here, we examine the evidence that argues against a role for infections in AD, while offering mechanistic hypotheses that may account for both the negative and positive findings, including dysregulated host immunity and gene-environment interactions of AD-associated genes.

Improvements To Fisheries Compensation Processes And Valuation Methodologies In Western Australia, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

This report has been prepared by the Compensation Working Group (WG) to provide advice to the Minister for Fisheries on improving Western Australia’s (WA) fisheries compensation processes under two key legislative frameworks:

• Fisheries adjustment schemes, under the Fisheries Adjustment Scheme Act 1987
• (FAS Act), and 
• Statutory compensation under Fishing and Related Industries Compensation (Marine Reserves) Act 1997 (FRICMA).

This work has been undertaken as a precursor to the larger scale adjustment and compensation processes that will be required as part of the implementation of several marine parks throughout the Kimberley and South Coast of WA.

The study presents a joint research project by five authors: László Tamás, András Máté-Tóth, Miklós Gyorgyovich, Bernadett Balassa, and Dávid Kollár. It offers the first international comparative empirical application of the theory of Wounded Collective Identity (WCI), developed by the second author, Professor András Máté-Tóth, based on data from thirty-eight European countries. The theoretical framework of the study is grounded in Máté-Tóth’s theory of wounded identity, which conceptualizes the geo-cultural and geopolitical in-between position of the Central and Eastern European region as a decisive factor shaping collective self-interpretation.

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

This study examines Geristoba, the Saint George feast historically celebrated around the Church of Saint George in Geri (Shida Kartli, Georgia) and its related sanctuary in Arbo. Drawing on the Chronicle of Geri (compiled by Deacon Iakob Lomouri), 19th–20th-century ethnographic accounts (S. Makalatia), historical notes (A. Garsevanishvili, Z. Chichinadze), and period press reports (Tsnobis Purtseli, Mtskemsi), the article reconstructs the site’s foundation traditions—attributed to King Pharsman and later royal patronage under Queen Tamar—alongside the ritual calendar and practices. It argues that Geristoba preserves a layered syncretism: Christian veneration of Saint George overlaid on earlier lunar cult symbolism, visible in the …

The Dumbarton Flyer Initiative Study is a comprehensive and ambitious vision for a study corridor that stretches from Fremont on the East Bay to Redwood City on the Peninsula within the San Francisco Bay Area (Bay Area) of California. It advocates for significant changes to how localities and regions embrace transportation and land use planning. The literature asserts that these two aspects of planning should be inseparable from each other. This assertion particularly holds if the Bay Area seeks to construct additional rail transit lines and to maximize their benefits. Rehumanizing Reintegration: Intensive Case Management Effectively Supporting Community Re-Entry Post Incarceration In Canada, Sheena Brown, Ardavan Eizadirad

This article examines the effectiveness of intensive case management (ICM) as a rehumanizing framework for supporting racialized individuals transitioning from incarceration to community re-entry in Canada. The study focuses on the Prosper program delivered by the community organization Amadeusz (learn more at https://amadeusz.ca/home), which provides culturally responsive, relationship-centered supports for individuals facing firearm-related charges. Guided by Critical Race Theory and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies, two focus groups with six racialized female caseworkers were conducted alongside examining archival interviews and program evaluation data. The results are reported of potential energy surface (PES) analyses of six symmetrical azines Y_p − Ph − RC=N − N=CR − Ph − Y_p, namely, the benzaldehyde azines 1H, 2H, and 8H with R = H and the acetophenone azines 1M, 2M, and 8M with R = Me. The Y substituents Cl (1), Br (2), and Me (8) were studied because sets of polymorphs I (C2-symmetry, azine twist τ ≈ 135 ± 10°, disrotatory phenyl twists ϕi ≠ 0°) and II (Ci-symmetry, τ = 180°, conrotatory ϕi ≠ 0°) were crystallized for these three azines. Meteorites provide a wealth of information about solar system evolution, planetary formation and differentiation, and provide clues to the origins of water and life on Earth. On December 10th, 2024 (4:04 EST), a meteor fall was observed approximately 50 km west of Indianapolis, over the small town of Amo, Indiana (Hendricks County). Several pieces of the meteor ranging from about 1g to >60kg were recovered. A local Greencastle, IN resident collected a 1451.3g sample, of which a 7.5g piece was donated to DePauw University for detailed textural, mineralogical, and geochemical characterization using stereomicroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), …

In this paper, we find uncountable families of generalized inverse sequences on intervals, where the bonding functions consist of a finite number of line segments, such that the inverse limit spaces of these sequences are pointwise self-homeomorphic continua. We give several examples of pointwise self-homeomorphic continua obtained in this manner including the dendrite D3 and a dendrite containing Dω. The dendrite D3 was obtained previously, by others, as a generalized inverse limit but the bonding function in that example contained infinitely many line segments. In Western Australia (WA), stock assessments for key demersal species, including snapper and red emperor, have traditionally used bespoke integrated models developed in-house by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). In line with other Australian jurisdictions, DPIRD is transitioning to Stock Synthesis (SS) as its primary platform for integrated stock assessments of WA finfish. To support this transition, DPIRD commissioned an independent expert review of recent integrated models applied to three demersal stocks. Simulation-based surgical training has the potential to significantly improve surgical outcomes in developing countries. However, its implementation faces numerous challenges, including financial constraints, infrastructural limitations, cultural barriers, and a lack of trained personnel. High costs, limited access to technology, and resistance to innovative teaching methods hinder the adoption of simulation-based surgical training. To overcome these obstacles, strategic approaches are needed, such as leveraging low-fidelity simulators, building strong partnerships, and investing in faculty development. By addressing these challenges, developing countries can harness the power of simulation-based surgical training to enhance surgical education and improve patient care.

Amid declining legal certainty in Delaware driven by recent court decisions and an increasingly active plaintiffs’ bar, Texas’ 2025 corporate governance reform marks a deliberate bid to position Texas as a premier jurisdiction for corporate formation, governance, and dispute resolution. This article examines three central amendments to the Texas Business Organizations Code (§§ 21.419, 21.552, and 21.373) enacted by Texas’ 2025 corporate governance reform and seeks to demonstrate that, contrary to early criticism labeling such amendments as management friendly or anti-shareholder, these amendments are, in fact, beneficial to shareholders. Objectives Previous work by an international taskforce delivered consensus to include rash, mucosal ulcers and alopecia in the mucocutaneous domain of a novel multi-domain clinical outcome measure for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) clinical trials, the Treatment Response Measure for SLE (TRM-SLE). (1) Here we report results of a consensus process to define a fit for purpose clinical outcome assessment and entry and response thresholds for assessment of mucocutaneous activity.
