Are Women Diagnosed With Early Pregnancy Loss At Risk For Anxiety, Depression, And Perinatal Grief?, Levent Ozgen, Gulten Ozgen, Deniz Simsek, Burcu Dıncgez, Feyza Bayram, Ayten N. Mıdıkhan

Saudi Medical Journal

Objectives: To examine the effects of early pregnancy loss on emotions such as depression, grief, or a sense of hopelessness, while investigating different types of diagnoses, hospital stays, and treatments. Methods: A prospective cohort epidemiological study was carried out in Bursa Yuksek Ihtisas Training and Research Hospital, Bursa, Turkey, between January and September 2019. The study included women diagnosed with early pregnancy loss classified into 3 groups: missed abortus, anembryonic pregnancy, and spontaneous abortion. The patients were screened via the Spielberger state-anxiety inventory (STAI-1) before initiating treatment. A Method To Develop A Statewide Resource Guide, Needs Assessment, And Service Inventory To Respond To Human Trafficking, Andrea Nichols, Kathleen Preble Sep 2022

A Method To Develop A Statewide Resource Guide, Needs Assessment, And Service Inventory To Respond To Human Trafficking, Andrea Nichols, Kathleen Preble

Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

The extant research literature indicates that human trafficking survivors have a myriad of service needs, including acute and long-term needs. A statewide resource guide, needs assessment, and service inventory were developed for Missouri through community action research involving a partnership with an anti-trafficking coalition, a consortium of funders, and a series of small research teams. This article details the evolution of a resource guide and describes the methods used to 1) develop a statewide resource guide for human trafficking survivors and the service providers who work with them, 2) evaluate the resource guide, 3) create a statewide/regional service inventory based …

Organizational And Team Culture As Antecedents Of Protection Motivation Among It Employees, Shwadhin Sharma, Eduardo Aparicio Sep 2022

Organizational And Team Culture As Antecedents Of Protection Motivation Among It Employees, Shwadhin Sharma, Eduardo Aparicio

College of Business Faculty Publications and Presentations

The rapid development of technology and information systems has led to higher information security-related issues in an organization. The age of remote working (i.e., telecommuting) has further increased information security related incidents that need to be adequately addressed. This paper extends the protection motivation theory by drawing insights from organizational and institutional theory literature to examine how organizational culture and subcultures such as team culture impact information security compliance. The primary objective of this study is to understand the impact of the dimensions of organizational culture and team culture on employees’ perceived threats and coping motivation associated with information security …

Religious Syncretism In Spanish Latin America: Survival, Power, And Resistance, Ian Mcguckin Sep 2022

Religious Syncretism In Spanish Latin America: Survival, Power, And Resistance, Ian Mcguckin

Student Summer Scholars Manuscripts

This paper explores the theory of religious syncretism and its application within early modern Latin America. It proposes a new model for understanding religious syncretism in order to eliminate the previous bias in the scholarship and misconceptions inherent in the term and seeks to discover why cultures chose specific religious elements over their counterparts in syncretic scenarios. Reviewing primary and secondary sources analyzing the religious characteristics and atmosphere of this period revealed that there was a pattern to syncretism and religious selection in Spanish Latin America. Europeans, Indigenous Peoples, and Africans in the New World selected religious elements based on …

Light4health Elearning Course: Health Research For Interior Lighting Design. Re-Thinking Design Approaches Based On Science, K. M. Zielinska-Dabkowska, Lyn Godley, F. Kyriakidou, U. C. Besenecker, G. Triantafyllidis

Kanbar College Faculty Papers

This paper presents the results of 'Light4Health' (L4H), a three-year EU Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership grant project (2019-2021), which investigated, systematized and taught health-related research on the impact of natural and artificial light on human health and well-being relevant to indoor lighting design. The objective was to re-think evidence-based lighting design approaches for residential, working/educational, and healthcare spaces, in order to develop a novel cross-disciplinary eLearning platform, that intersects lighting design and current peer-reviewed health research through a select combination of the most relevant research, methods, and tools. The content was developed through teaching workshops with international researchers, teachers, and students. …

Is Strongyloides Stercoralis Hyperinfection Induced By Gglucocorticoids A Result Of Both Suppressed Host Immunity And Altered Parasite Genetics?, De'broski R Herbert, Jonathan D C Stoltzfus, Heather L Rossi, David Abraham Sep 2022

Is Strongyloides Stercoralis Hyperinfection Induced By Gglucocorticoids A Result Of Both Suppressed Host Immunity And Altered Parasite Genetics?, De'broski R Herbert, Jonathan D C Stoltzfus, Heather L Rossi, David Abraham

Department of Microbiology and Immunology Faculty Papers

The gastrointestinal (GI) nematode Strongyloides stercoralis (S.s.) causes human strongyloidiasis, a potentially life-threatening disease that currently affects over 600 million people globally. The uniquely pernicious aspect of S.s. infection, as compared to all other GI nematodes, is its autoinfective larval stage (L3a) that maintains a low-grade chronic infection, allowing undetectable persistence for decades. Infected individuals who are administered glucocorticoid therapy can develop a rapid and often lethal hyperinfection syndrome within days. Hyperinfection patients often present with dramatic increases in first- and second-stage larvae and L3a in their GI tract, with L3a widely disseminating throughout host organs leading to sepsis. How …

Insider Trading Restrictions And Real Earnings Management: International Evidence, Jiwei Wang, Yuanto Kusnadi, Jiwei Wang, Yujie Wang Sep 2022

Insider Trading Restrictions And Real Earnings Management: International Evidence, Jiwei Wang, Yuanto Kusnadi, Jiwei Wang, Yujie Wang

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

We examine the implications of insider trading restrictions on firms’ real activities earnings management in an international setting. Using a sample of 28 countries over the period from 1992 to 2007, we find evidence that is supportive of the substitution hypothesis, in that managers have incentives to substitute accruals earnings management for real activities earnings management. This effect is found to be more pronounced for firms in countries with more restrictive insider trading regulation. Our result is robust to alternative measures of real activities earnings man- agement and insider trading restrictions, alternative sub-samples, alternative regression specifi- cations, and controlling for …

Subsidiary Governance And Corporate Tax Planning: The Effect Of Parent-Subsidiary Common Directors And Offficers, Xin Wang, Yongxin Xu, Liandong Zhang, Gaoping Zheng Sep 2022

Subsidiary Governance And Corporate Tax Planning: The Effect Of Parent-Subsidiary Common Directors And Offficers, Xin Wang, Yongxin Xu, Liandong Zhang, Gaoping Zheng

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

Top executives of the parent company often take positions as the directors and officers (D&Os) of subsidiaries. These parent-subsidiary common D&Os have better access to subsidiary information and can exert more influence over subsidiary operations. Therefore they can better identify tax-planning opportunities and coordinate tax arrangements. Using the mandatory disclosure of top executives' subsidiary positions for Chinese listed firms, we find that effective income tax rate is lower for firms with common D&Os. The tax-saving effect is stronger for firms with more intangible assets and with related-party transactions involving subsidiaries. The effect is also stronger when common D&Os have positions …
