Additive manufacturing continues to offer new possibilities in both production and economics. The industry has quickly adopted it to rapidly produce parts that would be difficult or cost preventative otherwise. Recent innovation has expanded its capabilities, however there are still significant limitations. Most AM processes are restricted by materials available, in producing large parts, or by not achieving material deposition speeds to make certain products feasible. In addition, tight tolerances for features and surfaces cannot be produced without substantial post processing. Suicide is a serious and growing problem that has not been adequately explained by prior theories. The interpersonal theory of suicide (IPT) was derived to explain the progression of suicidality by positing that thwarted belongingness (TB) and perceived burdensomeness (PB), combined with hopelessness about these states (interpersonal hopelessness), lead to active suicidal ideation, which in turn leads to suicidal behaviors. However, no prospective tests of IPT hypotheses have utilized a measure of interpersonal hopelessness. Additionally, IPT neglects factors that may protect against or explain the progression of suicidality, such as meaning in life. The purpose of the current study was …

The purpose of this study was to disrupt and challenge how research and representation of transgenerational trauma in the field of psychology perpetuates the elision and erasure of African American women's experiences. In social sciences and the medical field, African American women are often described within trauma studies as either silent sufferers of substance abuse and interpersonal violence or perpetrators of lateral violence, child abuse/neglect, etc., which dislocates their personhood and complex nuances of their experiences (e.g. Broussard, 2013; Ponton III, 2018; Ricks, 2018). In this dissertation, I recorded individual neuronal activity from the lateral orbitofrontal cortex of awake, freely moving animals as they behaved in a punishment-based risky decision-making task. In this risky decision-making task, subjects chose between a small food reward and a large food reward associated with either a 0% or 50% risk of a concurrent punishment in the form of a mild footshock. As the risk of punishment increased, subjects reduced choice of the large reward. The approval of COVID-19 vaccinations for working age Americans in early 2021 offered a welcome release from oppressive non-vaccination safety measures. Group activities including normal employment operations became possible with a greatly reduced risk of serious illness and death. However, escape from the virus and non-vaccination measures was limited by widespread resistance to vaccination. OSHA became one of a handful of federal government offices that adopted rules to motivate more people to accept vaccination as the best way to protect themselves, protect their families, and escape the oppression of non-vaccination measures. The Supreme Court held in Mitchell v. Forsyth that defendants have a right to immediately appeal from the denial of immunity. This right to appeal alone is enough to halt any progress in civil-rights litigation and add complexity to a case, and defendants can use these appeals to wear down plaintiffs. But appeals from the denial of qualified immunity—or simply “qualified-immunity appeals”—are worse than some seem to realize. In the 35 years since Mitchell, the federal courts have steadily expanded the scope and availability of these appeals. The short paper extends an acoustic signal delay estimation method to general anechoic scenario using image processing techniques. The technique proposed in this paper localizes acoustic speech sources by creating a matrix of phase versus frequency histograms, where the same phases are stacked in appropriate bins. With larger delays and multiple sources coexisting in the same matrix, it becomes cluttered with activated bins. This results in high intensity spots on the spectrogram, making source discrimination difficult. Background: Patients’ experience reflects the quality of healthcare services from the end user’s perspective and therefore is an essential indicator of healthcare quality. This study aimed to measure patient experience of inpatient care and services received at a teaching hospital.

Methods: A total of 321 patients were enrolled in this quantitative, cross-sectional study during their discharge. Data were collected from May to September 2018 through a validated self-administered questionnaire adapted from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. Analysis of patient experience and overall hospital quality rating was conducted using SPSS version 25.

This study examined the influence of demographic, functional, and cognitive diversities on firm performance of North American Biotech companies using a mixed method explanatory sequential approach. One-year cross-sectional data of 100 companies was analyzed followed by purposeful semistructured interviews with eight board members from the dataset. The combined results resolved several ambiguities present in the literature regarding board selection, composition, and the correlation of board diversity with firm performance. This study used the well-known market-based financial metric Tobin’s Q to measure firm performance.

Can, and should, law societies regulate and discipline lawyers for their teaching and research? This article explores these largely overlooked but critically important questions in order to establish a foundation for further debate and discussion by lawyers, legislators, and law societies. It argues that professionalism precludes only low-value teaching and research—teaching and research with little pedagogical or epistemic value such that it is unlikely or unworthy to be protected by academic freedom—and that any chilling effect on lawyer-academics comes as much from uncertainty as from actual danger of regulatory consequences. This article draws from my 2019 LLM thesis on Canadian judicial decisions, where I sought to understand two things: how current approaches to judicial decision-writing may impact access to justice and how might we make decisions a better source of data while also making them more timely, concise, accessible, and consistent. It presents the results and analysis of an original empirical study of the evolution of British Columbia trial decisions over 40 years (1980–2018). The use of black soldier fly (BSF) as a bioconversion agent has become an emerging breakthrough in waste processing. Organic wastes, such as household waste and livestock manure, can be used as a growth medium for BSF larvae and converted into favorable products. The average composting time of BSF larvae is around 12– 15 days, which is faster than that of microbes or earthworms (4–5 weeks).
