A Tool For Differential Diagnosis Of Childhood Apraxia Of Speech And Dysarthria In Children: A Tutorial, Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel, Kristen M. Allison, Ruth Stoeckel
Speech Pathology and Audiology Faculty Research and Publications
Purpose:
While there has been mounting research centered on the diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), little has focused on differentiating CAS from pediatric dysarthria. Because CAS and dysarthria share overlapping speech symptoms and some children have both motor speech disorders, differential diagnosis can be challenging. There is a need for clinical tools that facilitate assessment of both CAS and dysarthria symptoms in children. The goals of this tutorial are to (a) determine confidence levels of clinicians in differentially diagnosing dysarthria and CAS and (b) provide a systematic procedure for differentiating CAS and pediatric dysarthria in children.

Beyond Bristol-Myers: Personal Jurisdiction Over Class Actions, Adam Steinman
Beyond Bristol-Myers: Personal Jurisdiction Over Class Actions, Adam Steinman
Articles
The Supreme Court's 2017 decision in Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. v. Superior Court threatens a sea change in the relationship between personal jurisdiction and aggregate litigation. The most crucial concern has been what the decision means for class actions. Must a court subject the claims of every unnamed class member to separate jurisdictional scrutiny? If so, it could be impossible for a plaintiff who sues in her home state to represent class members outside that state; instead, the Constitution would permit multistate or nationwide class actions only in states where the defendant is subject to general jurisdiction. For claims against a …

Using Some Natural Minerals To Remove Cadmium From Polluted Water, Monier M. Wahba, Wafaa M. Hashesh, Nesreen H. Abou-Baker
Baghdad Science Journal
Water scarcity is one of the most important problems facing humanity in various fields such as economics, industry, agriculture, and tourism. This may push people to use low-quality water like industrial-wastewater. The application of some chemical compounds to get rid of heavy metals such as cadmium is an environmentally harmful approach. It is well-known that heavy metals as cadmium may induce harmful problems when present in water and invade to soil, plants and food chain of a human being. In this case, man will be forced to use the low quality water in irrigation. Application of natural materials instead of …

On Finitely Null-Additive And Finitely Weakly Null-Additive Relative To The Σ–Ring, Samah H. Asaad, Ibrahim S. Ahmed, Hassan H. Ebrahim
Baghdad Science Journal
This article introduces the concept of finitely null-additive set function relative to the σ– ring and many properties of this concept have been discussed. Furthermore, to introduce and study the notion of finitely weakly null-additive set function relative to the σ– ring as a generalization of some concepts such as measure, countably additive, finitely additive, countably null-additive, countably weakly null-additive and finitely null-additive. As the first result, it has been proved that every finitely null-additive is a finitely weakly null-additive. Finally, the paper introduces a study of the concept of outer measure as a stronger form of finitely weakly null-additive.

Offline Signature Biometric Verification With Length Normalization Using Convolution Neural Network, Zahraa Mazin Alkattan, Ghada Mohammad Tahir Aldabagh
Baghdad Science Journal
Offline handwritten signature is a type of behavioral biometric-based on an image. Its problem is the accuracy of the verification because once an individual signs, he/she seldom signs the same signature. This is referred to as intra-user variability. This research aims to improve the recognition accuracy of the offline signature. The proposed method is presented by using both signature length normalization and histogram orientation gradient (HOG) for the reason of accuracy improving. In terms of verification, a deep-learning technique using a convolution neural network (CNN) is exploited for building the reference model for a future prediction. Experiments are conducted by …

Preparation-And Spectroscopic Characterization Of Transition Metal Complexes With Schiff Base 2-[1-(1h-Indol-3-Yl)Ethylimino) Methyl]Naphthalene-1-Ol, Rasha Khiderhussain Al-Daffaay
Baghdad Science Journal
The ligand 2-[1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylimino) methyl]naphthalene-1-ol, derived from 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde and 2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylamine, was used to produce a new sequence of metal ions complexes. Thus ligand reactions with NiCl2.6H2O, PdCl2, FeCl3.6H2O and H2PtCl6.6H2O were sequentially made to collect mono-nuclear Ni(II), Pd(II), Fe (III), and Pt(IV). (IR or FTIR), Ultraviolet Reflective (UV–visible), Mass Spectra analysis, Bohr-magnetic (B.M.), metal content, chloride content and molar conductivity have been the defining features of the composites. The Fe(III) and Pt(IV) complexes have octahedral geometries, while the Ni(II) complex has tetrahedral geometry and the Pd (II) complex has square planer geometry, according to these findings.

Modeling Jar Test Results Using Gene Expression To Determine The Optimal Alum Dose In Drinking Water Treatment Plants, Ruba D. Alsaeed, Bassam Alaji, Mazen Ibrahim
Baghdad Science Journal
Coagulation is the most important process in drinking water treatment. Alum coagulant increases the aluminum residuals, which have been linked in many studies to Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, it is very important to use it with the very optimal dose. In this paper, four sets of experiments were done to determine the relationship between raw water characteristics: turbidity, pH, alkalinity, temperature, and optimum doses of alum [ .14 O] to form a mathematical equation that could replace the need for jar test experiments. The experiments were performed under different conditions and under different seasonal circumstances. The optimal dose in every set …

The Law And Finance Of Infrastructure Investment, Daisuke Asaoka
Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review
Institutional design facilitates the investment of private capital in infrastructure. The Article deals with concessions, which have been a major format for infrastructure privatization in Japan since their legislation in 2011. It argues that the Japanese government, faced with mounting public debt, walks a thin line between attracting private capital and securing public interest in infrastructure under private operation. By comparing concessions with stock sales, the mainstream form of privatization until the legislation, the Article shows that while concessions have advantages in terms of economics and public interest control, they may hinder the strategic growth of private enterprises by limiting …

Natural Resource Governance In Qing China: Lineage Institutions And The Making Of Common Property Regimes, Jason Jia-Xi Wu
Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review
Historically, common property is one of the dominant forms of ownership through which natural resources-e.g., forests, pastures, and fisheries-are managed. However, their decline across societies due to marketization and privatization has prompted intense debates. This Article seeks to answer the following questions: (1) Why did some common property regimes dissipate quickly, while others resisted the forces of privatization for generations? (2) What explains the divergent trajectories that societies took in governing common resources? Building on the classic Coasean and Demsetzian law-andeconomics principles, this Article highlights two additional dimensions-institutional capacity and social embeddedness of propertyto explain how "hidden" social costs impacted …

Sanctions, Financial Regulation, And Crypto In Latin America, Camilla Oliva
Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review
The note examines the intersection of corruption, financial regulation, and cryptocurrency in Latin America, arguing that U.S. sanctions and the lack of effective financial regulation have inadvertently enabled corruption in the region. It explores how cryptocurrencies, while offering potential solutions to financial instability, are also exploited by corrupt actors and governments to circumvent sanctions and regulatory frameworks. The analysis highlights the dual role of cryptocurrencies as both a tool for financial inclusion and a means of evading accountability, particularly in countries like Venezuela and El Salvador.
