Berbamine Enhances The Efficacy Of Doxorubicin Treatment For Breast Cancer In Vitro And In Vivo, Kristina G. Borglum
Berbamine Enhances The Efficacy Of Doxorubicin Treatment For Breast Cancer In Vitro And In Vivo, Kristina G. Borglum
Senior Theses
Doxorubicin (Dox) is a commonly used chemotherapy drug for treating breast cancer. While it is very effective, the main limitation of Dox treatment is subsequent cytotoxicity. Berbamine dihydrochloride (BBM) is a natural benzylisoquinoline alkaloid that is extracted from the plant, Berbaris amurensis. It has been widely used in traditional medicine to treat individuals with inflammatory diseases for many centuries. It has already been shown that combining BBM with Dox synergistically enhances the efficacy of Dox treatment on breast cancer in vitro. To eventually translate these findings into a clinical setting, this study aims to explore this therapeutic potential in vivo …

The Impact Of Strength Training On Mental Health In Nursing Students During And Following The Covid-19 Pandemic, Emma Epperly
Senior Theses
Stress, anxiety, and depression are noticeably prevalent in the nursing student population. There is a great deal of pressure placed on nursing students for high academic achievement and performance in the clinical settings. For many nursing students, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic exacerbated existing or created new mental health struggles. Despite the severity of this problem, there is a great hesitancy for students to seek treatment because of the stigma around mental health diagnoses. With this in mind, strength training is an effective mode of exercise for improving symptoms of anxiety and depression, indicating that it would be a …

Active particles convert external energy into motility, displaying a variety of dynamical features. Recent progress in the field has marked a shift in focus from understanding the origin and sources of active motion to controlling the dynamics and trajectory of individual microswimmers. This review explores the advancements made in a two-fold perspective—the role of particle design and that of external factors. Our main goal is to highlight the guiding principles, which determine active particle trajectory. These include, on the one hand, the role of the morphology of active particles and their assemblies in driving translation, rotation, and corresponding coupling between …

Challenges In Mali, The Importance Of Legitimate Governance In Combatting Terrorism And Violent Extremism, Gerald Krieger
Journal of Strategic Security
The Greater Sahel is one of the world’s most troubled regions. Within the region, Mali is the regional lynchpin and has been the focus of French efforts to eradicate terrorist groups. The essay seeks to answer the question, “Why has violence increased and terrorist cells continued to thrive in Mali despite international efforts?” Although the issue is more complicated and nuanced, corruption and poor governance are significant factors in increased violence. Local leaders focus on militarization and violent suppression to maintain control over larger cities while neglecting rural communities. These actions undermine the government’s legitimacy, exacerbated by rampant corruption. Secondary …

Journal of Strategic Security
The Secretary of State established the Office of the United States Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority (USSC) in 2005 to meet U.S. commitments under the Middle East Roadmap for Peace. USSC’s vision is to strive for a civilian-controlled, self-sustaining, affordable, and accountable security structure, focused on “police primacy”, operating within the rule of law while providing necessary law enforcement to safeguard the Palestinian people. This vision is far from accomplished: Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces continue arbitrary detention, torture, and use of excessive force. This article examines the wide applicability of police powers – premised as the …
