Wildfire & Sacred Flame: Enthusiasm In American Revivalism 1734-1944, Randy Lee Darnell
Wildfire & Sacred Flame: Enthusiasm In American Revivalism 1734-1944, Randy Lee Darnell
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The First and Second Great Awakenings were momentous events in American history. The developments that occurred from these movements forever influenced religion in the United States. Many participants in these revivals either witnessed or took part in an emotional religious experience often dubbed “enthusiasm,” which critics dismissed as fanaticism or the work of the devil. Advocates averred that these behaviors were genuine experiences brought about by the Holy Spirit. What can be demonstrated by the historical sources left behind from America’s great revivals is a continuity of this religious behavior from the First Great Awakening to revivals in the early …
Exploring Public Perceptions Of The Recovery Response As A Result Of Hurricane Michael’S Landfall, David Lovett
Exploring Public Perceptions Of The Recovery Response As A Result Of Hurricane Michael’S Landfall, David Lovett
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Hurricanes remain among the most frequent and costliest natural disasters to impact the United States both in terms of loss of property and life (Rudden, 2022; NOAA, 2021a; NOAA, 2022a, 2022b, 2022c). Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria brought renewed attention to the subject of disaster recovery as they collectively cost the nation over $373 billion dollars in damage and over 3,200 lives lost in the 2017 hurricane season (NOAA, 2022a, 2022b; Reguero et al., 2018; USNHC, 2018). Property and lives are at most risk during the first 72 hours following a major hurricane (Col, 2007; Kohn et al., 2012; Dourandish, …
What Screening Schedule Or Algorithm Has Shown To Be Beneficial In Early Identification Of Perinatal Depression: An Integrative Review, Olivia Grace Hull
What Screening Schedule Or Algorithm Has Shown To Be Beneficial In Early Identification Of Perinatal Depression: An Integrative Review, Olivia Grace Hull
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Within the health care industry, mental illness has become a growing national concern, especially within the realm of obstetric care. As a vulnerable population, pregnant and postpartum women require appropriate screening and treatment for depression as warranted. Within the United States, there is an increasing concern around undiagnosed and untreated perinatal depression because of the lack of adequate screening and treatment plans. Perinatal depression that remains unrecognized contributes not only to long-lasting effects on the women, but also to adverse developmental effects in infants and an overall burden on the family unit. In addition, perinatal depression is associated with various …

The Moderating Role Of Positive Religious Coping And Workplace Spirituality In The Relationship Between Level Of Traditional And Covid-19 Related Stressors Encountered And Mental Health In Hospitality Workers, Danielle Grace Defacci
The Moderating Role Of Positive Religious Coping And Workplace Spirituality In The Relationship Between Level Of Traditional And Covid-19 Related Stressors Encountered And Mental Health In Hospitality Workers, Danielle Grace Defacci
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Higher levels of workplace and COVID-related stressors appear clearly linked to poorer mental health outcomes, and evidence is emerging that suggests positive religious coping (PRC) and workplace spirituality (WS) are both related to better mental health outcomes. It could be that PRC and WS buffer the impact of high stress levels on mental health. However, only one study exists that has explored the moderating effect of PRC in the stress-mental health relationship, and no studies exist exploring the moderating effect of WS in the stress-mental health relationship. Therefore, this study looked at the moderating role of PRC and WS in …
Childhood Maltreatment And Post-Traumatic Growth: Shifting Perception Of Adversity From The Past, Leigh Anne Reynolds
Childhood Maltreatment And Post-Traumatic Growth: Shifting Perception Of Adversity From The Past, Leigh Anne Reynolds
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study is to better understand the transformational experience from identifying as a victim of childhood maltreatment (CM) to self-perceived post-traumatic growth (PTG). Some adults who were abused and/or neglected in childhood report continued struggles in adulthood that they perceive to be directly related to the maltreatment they experienced, while other adults have found beneficial aspects, such as positive psychological change, from past adverse experience(s). Identifying the constructs that differentiate these two outcomes, either feeling “stuck” in one’s past or self-perceived growth, are essential to further establish the relevance of PTG in trauma-related research. PTG, a …

A Qualitative Exploration Of Formation And Change In Attachment To God, Virginia Watson Cashion
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study consisted of a phenomenological exploration of the lived experience of individuals who identify as Christians, examined within the context of attachment to God. Eleven Ph.D. students enrolled in an online program at an evangelical institution in the southeastern United States were interviewed. The interviews were conducted online, recorded (audio and video), and transcribed within the MS Teams app. Data was analyzed, codes were established, and themes were identified. Analysis revealed that while one’s relationship with God was meaningful and secure, all indicated the presence of seeking (greater connection to God) language. Second, attachment terms were often used to …

Learning The Host Nation Language While Living Abroad As A Military Adolescent, A Transcendental Phenomenology, Simone Sweatman
Learning The Host Nation Language While Living Abroad As A Military Adolescent, A Transcendental Phenomenology, Simone Sweatman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
High mobility in students has been shown to have a negative effect on academic achievement. Military children relocate six to nine times before graduating high school, with at least one of these moves being overseas. This transcendental phenomenology described the lived experience of military-affiliated students who learned the language of their host culture while living overseas. The theory guiding this study was Ryan and Deci's self-determination theory. This study focused on the importance of self-determination for academic attainment, which is thought to be achieved through a feeling of competence, autonomy, and relatedness. Through criterion sampling, 11 participants, ages18 to 23, …
The Identity Of The Father: Defining The Nature Of The Relation Between The God Of Jesus, And The God Of Israel, Manuel Alejandro Boglio Meléndez
The Identity Of The Father: Defining The Nature Of The Relation Between The God Of Jesus, And The God Of Israel, Manuel Alejandro Boglio Meléndez
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most difficult doctrines to explain and comprehend. Historically, trinitarian discussions, especially during the first four centuries, have centered on the deity of Christ and His relation to the Father. Later, this discussion centered on the deity of the Holy Spirit, and His relation to both the Father and the Son. The identity of the Father, however, is rarely discussed, but rather it is simply assumed. The Father is simply the first Person of the Trinity, the God of Israel, YHWH. The problem, however, is that, for Christians, YHWH is triune. …
Best Practices For Implementing Critical Care Orientation Programs For Newly Graduated Nurses After Reduced Hands-On Clinical Experience Due To The Covid-19 Pandemic: An Integrative Review, Anne-Marie Hinish
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The academic-practice gap has been described in the literature for years. Poorly implemented transition to practice can negatively impact patient outcomes, newly graduated nurses, and the nursing profession. Abbreviated prelicensure clinical experiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated the academic-practice gap’s impact on new nurse confidence, competence, safety, and retention. This integrative literature review aimed to identify best practices for developing and implementing a standardized new graduate nurse orientation program in the critical care setting that addresses and supports the transition from student to practitioner in an era of reduced hands-on clinical experiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Evidence …

Could A Medication Help With Bleeding Between The Skull And The Brain?, A Chari, Ks Lee, A Alamri, Pja Hutchinson, Ag Kolias, E Edlmann
Peninsula Medical School
Chronic subdural haematoma is the medical name for bleeding that occurs between the skull and the brain. It usually happens to older people, like grandparents. If it causes serious symptoms, brain surgeons will operate. However, even after surgery, chronic subdural haematomas can come back, and further operations may be needed. We tested whether a medication called dexamethasone could prevent chronic subdural haematomas from coming back by performing a study of 750 people, in which half received the medication and half did not. The results showed that dexamethasone was good at stopping brain bleeds from coming back, but it had other …
Carbonate-Superstructured Solid Fuel Cells With Hydrocarbon Fuels, Hanrui Su, Wei Zhang, Yun Hang Hu
Carbonate-Superstructured Solid Fuel Cells With Hydrocarbon Fuels, Hanrui Su, Wei Zhang, Yun Hang Hu
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
A basic requirement for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is the sintering of electrolyte into a dense impermeable membrane to prevent the mixing of fuel and oxygen for a sufficiently high open-circuit voltage (OCV). However, herein, we demonstrate a different type of fuel cell, a carbonate-superstructured solid fuel cell (CSSFC), in which in situ generation of superstructured carbonate in the porous samarium-doped ceria layer creates a unique electrolyte with ultrahigh ionic conductivity of 0.17 S.cm21 at 550 °C. The CSSFC achieves unprecedented high OCVs (1.051 V at 500 °C and 1.041 V at 550 °C) with methane fuel. Furthermore, the …

BACKGROUND: Entrectinib is a TRKA/B/C, ROS1, ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of adults and children aged ≥12 years with NTRK fusion-positive solid tumors and adults with ROS1 fusion-positive non-small-cell lung cancer. We report an analysis of the STARTRK-NG trial, investigating the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) and activity of entrectinib in pediatric patients with solid tumors including primary central nervous system tumors.
METHODS: STARTRK-NG (NCT02650401) is a phase 1/2 trial. Phase 1, dose-escalation of oral, once-daily entrectinib, enrolled patients aged <22 years with solid tumors with/without target NTRK1/2/3, ROS1, or ALK fusions. Phase 2, basket trial at the RP2D, enrolled patients with intracranial or extracranial solid tumors harboring target fusions or neuroblastoma. Primary endpoints: phase 1, RP2D based on toxicity; phase 2, objective response rate (ORR) in patients harboring target fusions. Safety-evaluable patients: ≥1 dose of entrectinib; response-evaluable patients: measurable/evaluable baseline disease and ≥1 dose at RP2D.
RESULTS: At data cutoff, 43 patients, median age of 7 years, were response-evaluable. In phase 1, 4 …

Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) is a major impediment to lung transplant survival and is generally resistant to medical therapy. Extracorporeal photophoresis (ECP) is an immunomodulatory therapy that shows promise in stabilizing BOS patients, but its mechanisms of action are unclear. In a mouse lung transplant model, we show that ECP blunts alloimmune responses and inhibits BOS through lowering airway TGF-β bioavailability without altering its expression. Surprisingly, ECP-treated leukocytes were primarily engulfed by alveolar macrophages (AMs), which were reprogrammed to become less responsive to TGF-β and reduce TGF-β bioavailability through secretion of the TGF-β antagonist decorin. In untreated recipients, high airway …

Physical activity is correlated with, and effectively treats various forms of psychopathology. However, whether biological correlates of physical activity and psychopathology are shared remains unclear. Here, we examined the extent to which the neural and genetic architecture of physical activity and mental health are shared. Using data from the UK Biobank (N = 6389), we applied canonical correlation analysis to estimate associations between the amplitude and connectivity strength of subnetworks of three major neurocognitive networks (default mode, DMN; salience, SN; central executive networks, CEN) with accelerometer-derived measures of physical activity and self-reported mental health measures (primarily of depression, anxiety disorders, …

Yet we have a limited understanding of how the criminal enforcement of environmental laws has progressed historically in The Empire State. To explore this phenomenon, we undertake content analysis of federal prosecution summaries for all environmental crime prosecutions stemming from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency criminal investigations from 1983 to 2019. We explore which federal environmental laws were violated, determine which charging statutes were used, analyze sentencing patterns, and illustrate the broader themes that emerge in such prosecutions over 37 years. …

Cumulative Impact Analysis In Nepa Climate Assessments, Fred Mauhs

This article argues that CI analysis is a critical tool for addressing global warming. This is because the largest anthropogenic sources of greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions in the U.S. each contributes a vanishingly small portion of global GHG emissions, which alone cannot rise to NEPA’s threshold of “significance” requiring a “detailed statement…on the environmental impact of the proposed action,”i.e., an environmental impact statement (EIS). Yet there is no pollution today in greater need of assessment and understanding than GHG emissions, given the urgency of the impending catastrophe that global warming could mean for our planet.
