A Vulnerability Centric System Of Systems Analysis On The Maritime Transportation Sector Most Valuable Assets: Recommendations For Port Facilities And Ships, Chronis Kapalidis, Stavros Karamperidis, Tim Watson, Georgios Koligiannis
Plymouth Business School
The maritime sector is a vital component of the global economy. Its international nature supersedes state boundaries and any disruption in its operations could have consequent and collateral global effects, affecting the socio-economic wellbeing of regions, states and peoples. The increasing adoption of digitalisation in the sector, primarily increases efficiency, minimize cost and maximise benefit, while improving safety, simultaneously introduces a new cyber threat landscape. The attack surface has broadened further due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as recent, high-profile cyber attacks to shipping companies have indicated. Cybersecurity is not limited to technology but involves people and business processes. Hence, to …

Fruits and vegetables containing phenylalanine ≤ 75 mg/100 g (except potatoes) have little impact on blood phenylalanine in phenylketonuria (PKU). In a randomized, controlled, crossover intervention trial, we examined the effect of increasing phenylalanine intake from fruits and vegetables, containing phenylalanine 76–100 mg /100 g, compared with milk protein sources on blood phenylalanine control. This was a five-phase study (4 weeks each phase). In Phase A, patients remained on their usual diet and then were randomly allocated to start Phase B and C (an additional phenylalanine intake of 50 mg/day, then 100 mg from fruits and vegetables containing phenylalanine 76–100 …

Poverty Implications Of Covid-19 And Government Social Protection Programmes In Nigeria, Adeponle Adeoye, John Lola Okunola, Sunday Fakunle
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
The sole objective of this paper was to investigate the poverty implications of COVID-19 on Nigerians, relative to the effectiveness of the government’s social protection programs in mitigating the socioeconomic strain caused by the pandemic. The paper used documentary analysis to assess the impact of COVID-19 on Nigerians’ socioeconomic lives and the government’s policy response to the situation. The review found that COVID-19 exacerbated the existing poverty in Nigeria, and most of the government policy programs were not effective in mitigating the effects. We concluded that government policy responses to the socioeconomic strain caused by the pandemic were ineffective due …

An Impulse Detection Methodology And System With Emphasis On Weapon Fire Detection, Jeremy Benjamin Brown
An Impulse Detection Methodology And System With Emphasis On Weapon Fire Detection, Jeremy Benjamin Brown
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This dissertation proposes a methodology for detecting impulse signatures. An algorithm with specific emphasis on weapon fire detection is proposed. Multiple systems in which the detection algorithm can operate, are proposed. In order for detection systems to be used in practical application, they must have high detection performance, minimizing false alarms, be cost effective, and utilize available hardware. Most applications require real time processing and increased range performance, and some applications require detection from mobile platforms. This dissertation intends to provide a methodology for impulse detection, demonstrated for the specific application case of weapon fire detection, that is intended for …

Lisianthus is a florist staple and excellent crop for local farms. Its limited cool-storage period, long vase-life, and broad range of pastel- to jewel-tone colors are superior to wholesale imports. This fact sheet reviews lisianthus groups, site preparation, germination, transplanting, fertilizing, and irrigation and disease and pest management. It also provides information on trellising, harvest and storage, and economics as a specialty crop option for local farms.

Utah’s population has seen significant growth in recent years resulting in population increase outside of the Wasatch Front and into Utah's high mountain valleys. These locations include Bear Lake Valley, Ogden Valley, Morgan and Henefer, Park City, Wasatch Valley, and Sanpete Valley. Much of the information presented here would also apply to the Uintah Basin and other high elevation locations in eastern Utah. Common characteristics of these valleys include high elevations (greater than 5,000 feet) leading to short growing seasons. Many homeowners who are new to these regions wish to establish perennial fruit crops in their gardens. This publication outlines …

Sight Versus Sound: Do Visual Assessments Of Dead Standing Trees Reflect Acoustic Nondestructive Evaluations Of Wood Quality?, Tyler J. Hovde, John W. Forsman, Robert J. Ross, Mark Rudnicki, Xinfeng Xie, Xiping Wang, Yvette L. Dickson
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
The forest industry typically uses visual appearance to evaluate the wood quality when salvaging dead standing trees. We investigated whether the visual appearance of white spruce (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss) defoliated by the spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.)) accurately reflects wood quality measured using nondestructive techniques. Longitudinal and transverse acoustic velocities were measured on white spruce, representing three condition categories assessed visually, ranging from live trees to dead standing trees with signs of decay. Generalized linear models were used to determine whether there were significant differences in longitudinal and transverse acoustic velocities among the visual categories. Longitudinal velocities significantly differed …

Origin Of The Second-Order Proton Catalysis Of Ferriin Reduction In Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reactions: Density Functional Studies Of Ferroin And Ferriin Aggregates With Outer Sphere Ligands Sulfate, Bisulfate, And Sulfuric Acid, Sara C. Mccauley, Rainer Glaser
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
The detailed mechanisms of Belousov-Zhabotinsky oscillating reactions continue to present grand challenges, even after half a century of study. The origin of the pH dependence of the oscillation pattern had never been rigorously identified. In our recent kinetic study of one of the key Belousov-Zhabotinsky reactions, the iron-catalyzed bromate oxidation of malonic acid, compelling agreement between experiments and kinetic simulations was achieved only with the inclusion of second-order proton catalysis of the reduction of the [Fe(phen)3]3+ species. After exhausting all other avenues in search of an explanation of this proton catalysis, we considered the possibility that the …

Size Assortative Mating In The Clown Weevil, Denson K. Mclain
Datasets
These data were collected as part of a study of the Sesbania clown weevil, Eudiagogus pulcher Fahraeus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in eastern Texas, where the density of clown weevils varied by 25-50 times within all of four sites, increasing with the proximity to water of its host plant, rattlebox, Sesbania drummondi (Rybd.) Cory (Fabaceae). These data document changes in the strength and direction of assortative mating by size (body length) which reflect the effect of population density on the rates of mate choosiness, courtship, and inter-male rivalry. Stochastic simulations investigate how interactions between population density, the operational sex ratio, rate of …

Clinical And Molecular Response To Tebentafusp In Previously Treated Patients With Metastatic Uveal Melanoma: A Phase 2 Trial, Richard D Carvajal, Leonel Hernandez-Aya, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
In patients with previously treated metastatic uveal melanoma, the historical 1 year overall survival rate is 37% with a median overall survival of 7.8 months. We conducted a multicenter, single-arm, open-label phase 2 study of tebentafusp, a soluble T cell receptor bispecific (gp100×CD3), in 127 patients with treatment-refractory metastatic uveal melanoma (NCT02570308). The primary endpoint was the estimation of objective response rate based on RECIST (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours) v1.1. Secondary objectives included safety, overall survival, progression-free survival and disease control rate. All patients had at least one treatment-related adverse event, with rash (87%), pyrexia (80%) and pruritus …
