Weak Identification In Nonlinear Econometric Models, Lee C. Adkins Oct 2022

Weak Identification In Nonlinear Econometric Models, Lee C. Adkins

Southern University College of Business E-Journal

The Belsley, Kuh, and Welch Belsley et al. (1980) diagnostics are applied to the precision estimator in nonlinear models and the properties are explored via simulation. The performance of the diagnostics is examined specifically with the ordered probit model. The performance is examined under several parameterizations and under different degrees of collinearity. The results suggest that the identification of the model’s parameters is indeed related to collinearity of the data and by the parametric functional form of the model itself. The BKW diagnostics appear to be useful in the sense that serious problems with identification can be detected quite easily …

Media Influence Through What Is Reported And How It Is Reported, Tammy Parker Johnston, Veronika Humphries Oct 2022

Media Influence Through What Is Reported And How It Is Reported, Tammy Parker Johnston, Veronika Humphries

Southern University College of Business E-Journal

Living in the digital age certainly has its advantages but presents challenges to the basic principles of integrity, honesty, and truthfulness. Media bias can be detected by reviewing the list of trending and widely discussed topics shared by media outlets. The news presented can often be identified as leaning towards one of the three political spectrums: right-wing, left-wing, or center. The infiltration of political bias within the media influences public opinion.

Accuracies Of Field Co2–H2O Data From Open-Path Eddy-Covariance Flux Systems: Assessment Based On Atmospheric Physics And Biological Environment, Xinhua Zhou, Tian Gao, Ning Zheng, Bai Yang, Yanlei Li, Fengyuan Yu, Tala Awada, Jiaojun Zhu

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Ecosystem CO2–H2O data measured by infrared gas analyzers in open-path eddy-covariance (OPEC) systems have numerous applications, such as estimations of CO2 and H2O fluxes in the atmospheric boundary layer. To assess the applicability of the data for these estimations, data uncertainties from analyzer measurements are needed. The uncertainties are sourced from the analyzers in zero drift, gain drift, cross-sensitivity, and precision variability. These four uncertainty sources are individually specified for analyzer performance, but so far no methodology exists yet to combine these individual sources into a composite uncertainty for the specification of an …

The Political Consequences Of Green Policies: Evidence From Italy, Italo Colantone, Livio Di Lonardo, Yotam Margalit, Marco Percoco

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

For many governments, enacting green policies is a priority, but such policies often impose on citizens substantial and uneven costs. How does the introduction of green policies a˙ect voting? We study this question in the context of a major ban on polluting cars introduced in Milan, which was strongly opposed by the populist right party Lega. Using several inferential strategies, we show that owners of banned vehicles — who incurred a median loss of €3,750 — were significantly more likely to vote for Lega in the subsequent elections. Our analysis indicates that this electoral change did not stem from a …

Sustainable Deimplementation Of Continuous Pulse Oximetry Monitoring In Children Hospitalized With Bronchiolitis: Study Protocol For The Eliminating Monitor Overuse (Emo) Type Iii Effectiveness-Deimplementation Cluster-Randomized Trial, Nathaniel J. Williams

Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

Background: Methods of sustaining the deimplementation of overused medical practices (i.e., practices not supported by evidence) are understudied. In pediatric hospital medicine, continuous pulse oximetry monitoring of children with the common viral respiratory illness bronchiolitis is recommended only under specific circumstances. Three national guidelines discourage its use for children who are not receiving supplemental oxygen, but guideline-discordant practice (i.e., overuse) remains prevalent. A 6-hospital pilot of educational outreach with audit and feedback resulted in immediate reductions in overuse; however, the best strategies to optimize sustainment of deimplementation success are unknown.

Methods: The Eliminating Monitor Overuse (EMO) trial will compare two …

Rgs12 Polarizes The Gpsm2-Gnai Complex To Organize And Elongate Stereocilia In Sensory Hair Cells., Anil Akturk, Matthew Day, Basile Tarchini

Faculty Research 2022

Inhibitory G proteins (GNAI/Gα(i)) bind to the scaffold G protein signaling modulator 2 (GPSM2) to form a conserved polarity complex that regulates cytoskeleton organization. GPSM2 keeps GNAI in a guanosine diphosphate (GDP)-bound state, but how GPSM2-GNAI is generated or relates to heterotrimeric G protein signaling remains unclear. We find that RGS12, a GTPase-activating protein (GAP), is required to polarize GPSM2-GNAI at the hair cell apical membrane and to organize mechanosensory stereocilia in rows of graded heights. Accordingly, RGS12 and the guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) DAPLE are asymmetrically co-enriched at the hair cell apical junction, and Rgs12 mouse mutants are …

Nashville Trail Of Tears Memorial, Jason Thomas

[Archive] Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)

The Nashville Trail of Tears Memorial honors the Cherokee Native Americans, implores its visitors to reflect on a challenging moment of our nation’s history, celebrates the resiliency of the Cherokee nation, and reweaves the broken social fabric by creating a place for all to gather in community with each other. Sitting on Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage site, the estate of the president who signed the Indian Removal Act into law, the memorial serves as a reminder of the journey the Cherokee took through Tennessee while on The Trail. The project specifically tasked students with highlighting the experience of a young Cherokee …

Introduction

The World Health Organization estimates that 15 million babies are born pre term every year.1 “Preterm infants have a high risk of cognitive, neuromotor, and neurosensory problems after discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).2 The outcomes associated with pre term birth are influenced by early adverse experiences during critical care in a stressful NICU environment.3

Developmental care (DC) encompasses a broad array of interventions for developing infants which focus on minimizing the stress of the NICU.4 There are a number of approaches associated with DC The Universe of Developmental Care model describes five …

Background and Significance

Since its emergence in 2010 the mobile technology of the iPad has excited both parents and teachers for its potential in the classroom. The portability of networked mobile technologies has helped students of all abilities to discover, influence, and examine knowledge as well as interact with educators and other students across the world.1 While many school students have access to iPads, simply having technology in the school environment does not ensure teachers are ready to use it to their full potential.2 Teachers need sufficient professional development to align knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and learning content. …
