Examining A Mindfulness-Based Intervention For Anxiety: A Single Case Analysis With A Mixed Research Method., Aysun Parlar Yazici, Alyson Norman, Alison Bacon

This single-case study examines the impact of a 6-week Mindfulness-Based Intervention (MBI) on an individual experiencing anxiety, with a particular focus on intolerance of uncertainty (IU). A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative measures with qualitative data from session notes, interviews, and participant feedback. Quantitative findings indicated reductions in stress (DASS-21: pre-test = 36, post-test = 26), anxiety (pre-test = 30, post-test = 18), and depression (pre-test = 38, post-test = 28) scores from pre- to post-intervention. Increases were observed in mindfulness (pre-test = 42, post-test = 64) and resilience (pre-test = 28, post-test = 36), alongside a reduction in …

Individual differences modulate our thoughts and emotional experiences, yet how thought and emotion interact in daily life remains largely unclear. We leverage alexithymia, a trait reflecting atypical emotional awareness, to reveal these interactions in naturalistic settings. Using multi-dimensional experiencesampling via smartphones, we captured moment-to-moment thought patterns and concurrent affective states (valence, arousal, stress) in people’s daily life (N = 190 undergraduate students, age range = 18 to 36, 159 females). Using Principal Component Analysis and Linear Mixed Models, we identified four thought dimensions that relate differently to these affective states: future-self orientation, intrusive distraction, sensory engagement, and task-focus. This study examines the effect of applying Everett Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations model in mathematics instruction on the academic achievement of first-grade middle school students. A quasi-experimental design involving two equivalent groups (experimental and control) was used. The participants consisted of 49 students enrolled in a public middle school in Baghdad during the 2024–2025 academic year. Students in the experimental group were taught through an instructional framework structured around Rogers’ five stages of innovation adoption, whereas the control group received conventional instruction. This study aims to improve seventh-grade junior high school students’ scientific literacy through the use of the science-poly game on the topic of motion. The learning process was implemented using the lesson study approach, which consists of three stages: plan, do, and see. In the planning stage, teachers collaboratively designed learning activities and literacy-based questions integrated into the science-poly game. During the implementation stage, students participated in the game while engaging with scientific problems that required them to analyze questions, identify key scientific terms, and formulate conclusions. Objectives: The reported incidence and risk factors for aortic recoarctation (reCoA) after surgical repair in infants vary widely. This study aimed to determine the incidence of reCoA and to identify associated risk factors in a cohort of infants. Secondary objectives included assessing parameters associated with reintervention. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at the National Heart Center, Muscat, Oman, and included all infants who underwent surgical repair of coarctation of the aorta (CoA) from January 2016 to December 2022. The paper examines the antitrust implications of use of reverse breakup (termination) fees in mergers. By promising to pay a reverse breakup fee to the target if the proposed merger does not get the necessary antitrust approval, the acquirer can signal to the antitrust authority that the merger is more likely to be pro-competitive. A large reverse breakup fee can also function as a commitment device by the acquirer to spend more resources in case the merger is challenged by the antitrust authority. BACKGROUND: Virtual reality (VR) is a novel technology with implications for pain and sensory processing. VR may serve as a novel, scalable method to deliver clinically validated therapy for pain management as an alternative or adjunct to opioids for acute pain. Given that psychological factors and pain perception are both components of postoperative pain, it may also be beneficial to incorporate modalities that decrease anxiety, such as active relaxation and guided meditation with VR. Unfortunately, these therapies are not widely available due to multiple barriers. Rapid global trade expansion beginning in the 1990s spawned a parallel expansion in non-state (‘private’) environmental regulatory (PER) programs. They issue regulatory standards, monitor and judge performance, sanction poor performance, and sometimes regulate state activities. PER programs constitute extensive and complex transnational governance agglomerations encompassing environmental certification, corporate social responsibility, and environment-society-governance programs, typically intertwined with governmental and intergovernmental regulatory programs.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are key reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), with municipal sludge containing high bacterial densities and diverse ARGs that may spread through land application. Hydrothermal treatment (HT) is a process that inactivates pathogens and stabilizes biomass, but its performance at moderate temperatures is less understood. We evaluated HT (100°C–250°C; 2–24 h) for degrading bacterial DNA and ARGs in dewatered municipal sludge. DNA was quantified by fluorometry, bacterial presence confirmed by 16S rRNA gene PCR, and ARGs profiled by qPCR targeting 84 clinically and environmentally relevant genes. PURPOSE: The cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27 is a well-profiled modulator of cell cycle progression. Low nuclear p27 levels have been demonstrated to have a negative prognostic impact on outcomes in patients undergoing prostatectomy. The prognostic value of p27 after radiation therapy (RT) for prostate cancer is unknown.

METHODS AND MATERIALS: Levels of p27 were evaluated in pre-RT prostate biopsy samples from 2 randomized, phase 3 trials, NRG/RTOG 8610 and 9202, which treated patients with RT with or without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). The purpose of this qualitative action research study was to explore Dallas, Texas, human services professionals’ perceptions of the services that former foster youth need to ensure that they have access to medical and preventative care benefits when they age out of the system. The conceptual framework of Aday and Andersen’s health behavior model provided a structure for the lack of medical care access, the need for improvement, and the desire to use services for various marginalized at-risk populations. Background

Gut microbiome composition in HIV-infection provides insight into HIV pathogenesis and potentially offers avenues to adjunctive HIV therapies. Although two-thirds of people living with HIV (PLHIV) are in Africa, studies of the gut microbiome PLHIV have focused on non-African populations. Additionally, social, cultural, and environmental factors influence the gut microbiome and differ substantially between African and Western and urban and rural communities. Here, we quantify the relationships between immune status and fecal microbiome composition in 175 rural Ugandan PLHIV.

Maternal microbial ecosystems play critical roles in shaping reproductive physiology and pregnancy outcomes. During the pre-conception and prenatal periods, these communities modulate maternal physiology by regulating immune tolerance, nutrient metabolism, and susceptibility to pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, hypertensive disorders, and gestational diabetes. While the gut microbiota has been extensively studied, the roles of cervicovaginal, urinary, respiratory, oral, and upper reproductive tract microbiomes remain less clear. In this minireview, we synthesize current knowledge on these underexplored maternal microbiomes, with an emphasis on the cervicovaginal and urinary microbiota and their interactions with the placenta and fetus. Older adults comprise the fastest growing demographic in correctional facilities in the United States. Studies have shown older adults in prison report difficulty accessing healthcare and navigating the prison environment. Little is known about how older adults navigate aging and access healthcare in the jail setting. We sought to explore experiences of older adults incarcerated in a county jail. We conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with 20 older adults (> 50 years old) who were incarcerated at a local county jail and were referred to the emergency department for acute care needs. Background: Medulloblastoma (MB), the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, lacks prognostic tools integrating clinical, molecular, and treatment-related characteristics for individualized management.

Methods: We developed machine learning models using multicenter data from 729 Chinese patients (2001-2023), of whom 509 were assigned to the training set and 220 to the testing set, and further validated the models on 201 patients from international MB consortia. To accommodate patients and researchers with varying datatypes, four application scenarios were established, including clinical-molecular-radiotherapy (CMR), clinical-molecular (CM), clinical-radiotherapy (CR), and clinical-only (CO).

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS), an X-linked disorder characterized by immunodeficiency, thrombocytopenia, autoimmunity, and malignancy, can be effectively treated with allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Older age at HCT and mismatched donors are known to affect overall survival (OS). However, the influence of specific clinical manifestations or WAS variant class on OS and factors associated with event-free survival (EFS) remain incompletely defined. We analyzed outcomes of 308 patients with WAS who underwent HCT at 37 institutions of the Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium from 1990 to 2018. Valence photoionization generates photoions with excess internal energy, often resulting in statistical dissociation, well described by RRKM theory. Yet, numerous small photoions with electronegative substituents (e.g., F, Cl, Br, OH) have been shown to exhibit nonstatistical behavior, undergoing direct dissociation from repulsive electronic states to yield radicals such as F• or OH•, along with their corresponding fragment ions. Here, we present a general, predictive model that rationalizes this mechanism and extends it to molecules bearing electronegative substituents capable of forming 2P (F•, Cl•, Br•) or 2Π (OH•, SH•, N3•, NCO•) radicals. From the outside, the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (RDLT) has long appeared as a modest administrative measure. Negotiated in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee on Trademarks (SCT), it has repeatedly been characterized as a ‘‘procedural treaty’’ concerned with filing formalities rather than substantive reform. The contrast with the WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge (GRATK Treaty) is striking. Both both treaties adopted in 2024 after 20+ years of negotiation. But only the GRATK Treaty attracted sustained scholarly and civil society engagement; the RDLT attracted almost none.

Near miss incidents in the construction industry, when reported, serve as critical indicators of safety performance. When reported, organizations can identify hazards early and reduce the incidence of injuries and illnesses. Limited research exists on how construction workers perceive near miss incidents and how they are influenced to report them. Semi-structured audio-recorded interviews with 15 Texas-based construction workers in three cities about their lived experiences with near-miss reporting were conducted between July 18 and August 22, 2025. Objective: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are associated with physical and mental health conditions and linked to chronic health conditions among adults who have experienced trauma or toxic stress. ACEs are associated with severe health and social difficulties among children and adults, such as low productivity, mental health, substance abuse, chronic diseases, and short life expectancy. One in four children in the U.S. between the ages of 12 and 17 has at least experienced two or more ACEs. ACEs are more prevalent among underserved and ethnic minority groups.
