Architecture As A Projection Of Multiplicities, Kristanti Dewi Paramita
Architecture As A Projection Of Multiplicities, Kristanti Dewi Paramita
ARSNET
The architectural discussion of multiplicity moves beyond the preoccupation with architecture as a fixed, conclusive, and eternal entity. The collection of articles in this issue of ARSNET investigates the multidimensionality of architecture. The explorations in this issue span from the discussion of multi-layered meaning and temporalities of architecture, to the dynamic representation and spatial operation of multiplicities. Through inquiries on multiplicity-driven design methods, this issue projects the expanded and open field of architecture, appreciating the different forces and processes of society.

The Evolution Of Museum Culture In Botswana Towards Multi-Layered Architectural Heritage Conservation, Katlego Pleasure Mwale, Susan Osireditse Keitumetse, Laurence Mwale
ARSNET
The role of museums in Botswana has evolved from collecting ethnographic objects and exhibition development to architectural heritage conservation. This paper explores the evolution of museum development through case studies of the National Museum in Gaborone and a regional museum, the Phuthadikobo Museum in Mochudi. The study examines exhibition practices in these museums by discussing the limitations of traditional methods of exhibition and arguing in favour of a multi-layered exhibition method. Both the National Museum and Phuthadikobo Museum have now transformed into cultural institutions which now undertake architectural heritage conservation projects. These projects include the National Museum project which recreates …
Spatialising Time: Perceiving Multiple Layers Of Time In Narrative Environment, Kezia Nathania, Arif Rahman Wahid
Spatialising Time: Perceiving Multiple Layers Of Time In Narrative Environment, Kezia Nathania, Arif Rahman Wahid
ARSNET
There is no escape from time; that includes architecture which dominantly discusses the space. This paper aims to explore more about our understanding of the various times within space and its corresponding stories. Notably, this study looks at the context of the narrative environment where stories are imbued in space to enhance their engagement with the audience. Time in a narrative is presented through the narrated time and the real-world time where the audience of the narrative perceives it. Both types of time can be overlapped, whether the audience is consciously aware of that or not. Two case studies are …

Mediating Space: Framing Strategy And Sense Of Presence Across The Real-Virtual Environments, Ferro Yudistira, Ratu Baina
ARSNET
This study discusses the formation of mediated space as a space which combines actors and entities across the real and virtual environment. The study of mediated space in architectural discourse largely emphasises its experiential aspect, and only a few studies explore the formation of mediated space and the architectural elements which spans between the real and virtual environments. This mix of real and virtual environments is made possible through the involvement of the screen as the technological device that mediates the connection between them. This study investigates this process of mediation, focusing on the framing strategy of the virtual environment …

Exploring Physiology Instructors’ Use Of Core Concepts: Pedagogical Factors That Influence Choice Of Course Topics, Jeremy L. Hsu, Patricia A. Halpin
Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research
The physiology core concepts are designed to guide instructors in undergraduate physiology courses. However, although past work has characterized the alignment of physiology programs with the core concepts, it is unclear to what extent these core concepts have influenced instructors’ pedagogical decisions or how represented these core concepts are across physiology courses. We surveyed undergraduate physiology instructors to determine their familiarity with the core concepts, the impact of the core concepts on their teaching, as well as the alignment of their courses with these core concepts. Instructors report predominantly relying on textbooks and past syllabi of their courses as resources …
Effects Of A Professional Learning Experience On Middle School Teachers’ Perceptions, Experiences, And Implementation Of Curricular-Embedded Self-Regulated Learning And Motivation, Samuel Baillie
Doctor of Education in Teacher Leadership Dissertations
During the middle school transitional years, students face potential obstacles that can affect their achievement and motivation. It is essential that they learn how to self-regulate their learning and motivation so that they can persevere in an increasingly challenging academic environment. Teachers may support students directly or indirectly by embedding various practices and strategies into extant curricula. This two-phase qualitative case study provided four purposively selected teachers with a professional learning (PL) experience on self-regulated learning (SRL) and self-regulated motivation (SRM). The purpose of this study was to understand the perceptions and experiences of middle school teachers regarding the training …

Extensive experimental and human-derived evidence suggest that misfolded Aβ particles spread similarly to infectious prions. Moreover, peripheral administration of Aβ seeds accelerates brain amyloidosis in both susceptible experimental animals and humans. The mechanisms and elements governing the transport of misfolded Aβ from the periphery to the brain are not fully understood, although circulation and retrograde axonal transport have been proposed. Here, we demonstrate that injection of Aβ seeds in the tongue, a highly innervated organ, substantially accelerates the appearance of plaques in Tg2576 mice. In addition, the extra-nasal exposure of Aβ aggregates increased amyloid pathology in the olfactory bulb. Our …

Lecturers’ Perceptions And Practices Of Humor In Efl Classrooms, Siti Fadhilah, Johannes Ananto Prayogo, Francisca Maria Ivone
Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
This study aims to explore lecturers’ perceptions and practices of humor usage in EFL classrooms. This qualitative study used questionnaires and interview protocols to get data from two senior English lecturers who use humor in their classrooms at an English department of a public university in Indonesia. The result reveals that humor, particularly jokes and spontaneous humor are practical and beneficial for learning English in higher education. However, in delivering humor, the lecturers should consider the setting (time and place), college students’ vocabulary level, age, and sex; humor should not offend them culturally and be understandable.

Coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, have caused pandemics in the past two decades. The most prevalent SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern can re-infect individuals who have been previously infected with other variants or had protection from vaccines targeting the original SARS-CoV-2 variant. Given the high risk of transmission of coronavirus via aerosols produced during dental procedures, it is important to understand the future risk of coronavirus infection for oral health professionals and to diagnose quickly early stages of outbreaks. Testing of saliva for coronavirus may be the least invasive and most convenient method for following the outbreak at the individual and community level. …

Study question: Is there an association between fertility status, method of conception and the risks of birth defects and childhood cancer?
Summary answer: The risk of childhood cancer had two independent components: (i) method of conception and (ii) presence, type and number of birth defects.
What is known already: The rarity of the co-occurrence of birth defects, cancer and ART makes studying their association challenging. Prior studies have indicated that infertility and ART are associated with an increased risk of birth defects or cancer but have been limited by small sample size and inadequate statistical power, failure to adjust for …

Working With Great Expectations: The Impact Of Met And Unmet Expectations On Employee Engagement And Intent To Leave, Megan Daigle
Theses and Dissertations
Expectations are a part of everyday life and whether expectations are met at work has consequences for employees and organizations. Met expectations can contribute to positive outcomes (e.g., successful workplace adjustment) and unmet expectations have been linked to undesirable outcomes (e.g., withdrawal). The outcomes of interest in this study were employee engagement and intent to leave or remain. Cross-sectional, archival survey data from employees of an electric utility company in the southwestern U.S. (N = 79) was used. This paper contributes to the literature by showing a direct association between met expectations and engagement. Further, employee empowerment and inclusion were …

Physically transient forms of electronics enable unique classes of technologies, ranging from biomedical implants that disappear through processes of bioresorption after serving a clinical need to internet-of-things devices that harmlessly dissolve into the environment following a relevant period of use. Here, we develop a sustainable manufacturing pathway, based on ultrafast pulsed laser ablation, that can support high-volume, cost-effective manipulation of a diverse collection of organic and inorganic materials, each designed to degrade by hydrolysis or enzymatic activity, into patterned, multi-layered architectures with high resolution and accurate overlay registration. The technology can operate in patterning, thinning and/or cutting modes with (ultra)thin …

Over the past 3 years, a global phenomenon has emerged characterized by the sudden onset and frequently rapid escalation of tics and tic-like movements and phonations. These symptoms have occurred not only in youth known to have tics or Tourette syndrome (TS), but also, and more notably, in youth with no prior history of tics. The Tourette Association of America (TAA) convened an international, multidisciplinary working group to better understand this apparent presentation of functional neurological disorder (FND) and its relationship to TS. Here, we review and summarize the literature relevant to distinguish the two, with recommendations to clinicians for …

RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and mass-spectrometry-based proteomics data are often integrated in proteogenomic studies to assist in the prediction of eukaryote genome features, such as genes, splicing, single-nucleotide (SNVs), and single-amino-acid variants (SAAVs). Most genomes of parasite nematodes are draft versions that lack transcript- and protein-level information and whose gene annotations rely only on computational predictions.
