Background: The ubiquitous protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates and immunocompromised hosts. Both acute invasion and reactivation of latent infection result in an inflammatory reaction with lymphocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. Better understanding of the mechanisms of resistance of the host against this protozoan is important for development of safe, effective alternative treatment regimens for toxoplasmosis in the future.Aim of study:This study aimed to investigate some immunological parameters of woman’s sera infected with Toxoplasmosis in Baghdad city, through investigation the potential role of some interleukins mediating the inflammatory response after T. gondii infection. Methods: …

Competitive Inhibition Relationship Between Erythropoietin And Interferon-Gamma In Renal Failure Anemia., Ali M. Jasim, Baqur A. Sultan, Kareem T. Mashkour

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal

This is an in vitro laboratory study. It was done in order to prove the competitive inhibition between interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) and erythropoietin (EPO) in chronic renal failure (CRF) by fixing an inhibition elicited by EPO on IFN-gamma expression by mononuclear cells. These cells were already separated from fresh anticoaggulated blood specimens from nine CRF-patients and nine healthy persons. Then, were co incubated separately with mitogen, phytohemaggluttinin with and without EPO under standard incubation conditions. Thereafter, IFN-gamma level was measured by ELISA. Results have shown that EPO significantly inhibits IFNgamma expression by mononuclear cells in healthy persons, p value < 0.05, while this inhibition is not significant in CRF-patients.

Real time ultrasound scanning of follicular development was performed for 35 patients receiving metrodin during 113 cycle. Twenty pregnancies were obtained resulting in a pregnancy rate of (57.1%); with (16) patients singletons, set of twins 4 (20%), with abortions 6(30%) and about patients 2 (5%) develops mild ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). So ultrasound alone can be used effectively to control gonadotropin therapy in the majority …

This study aimed to determine Fe ,Pb , Mn ,Se, Cu ,and Zn levels in the blood of children with anemia , living at Al- Najaf City ,as indicators of environmental pollution in this city. Sixty five children (mean age 7.8 ±0.5) including 34 girls , 28 boys having anemia and the ages matched healthy children 29 girls and 28 boys ,were studied .We observed iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in 35 child (16 girls ,19 boys) ,and only anemia (OA) in 30 child (15 girls ,15 boys). It was found that significant difference of Hb, PCV ,MCV (P<0.01) , and ferritin(P<0.001) values in IDA patients (both girls and boys)were found, when compared with healthy children. The results show that there are significantly higher levels of Pb , Mn , and Zn ,in the serum of children in (IDA) group( both girls and boys) in comparison with their control groups . While Se , and Cu levels were significantly lower in (OA) and(IDA) groups , girls and boys, as related to their control groups. In conclusion ,children with iron deficient anemia are more sensitive to the pollutants and more at risk as compared to healthy children . Their bloods are considered as an index of biologically active metals in the body, reflecting direct interaction of atmosphericpollution of a population.
