The rapid growth of the U.S. commercial space industry has exposed a profound regulatory gap in addressing rocket emissions. By releasing greenhouse gases and particulates like black carbon, alumina, and water vapor, rocket launches not only contribute to climate change but also accelerate stratospheric ozone depletion. The U.S. aviation industry encountered similar environmental challenges decades ago, which eventually prompted legal and policy frameworks to curtail aviation emission through sustainable fuel technologies. Unlike aviation, however, the space industry now operates in a legal vacuum, with no binding international environmental standards or domestic regulations targeting rocket atmospheric pollution. The rising trend of opioid-involved overdose deaths among pregnant and postpartum women in the United States from 2019 to 2023 represents a pressing public health issue. This population faces increasing risk due to opioid use and co-occurring mental health conditions, yet remains underrepresented in research. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the association between opioid involvement among pregnancy-associated overdose deaths, while controlling for pandemic periods (pre-COVID: 2019, peak COVID: 2020–2021, post-peak COVID: 2022–2023). Objective: This study aimed to investigate and analyse the complications and outcomes of orbital fracture repair in Oman. Methods: This multicentre retrospective study included all patients with orbital floor and/or medial wall fractures who underwent orbital reconstruction at four tertiary hospitals in Oman between January 2014 and December 2021. The data collected included demographics, fracture aetiology, surgical approach, reconstruction material, complications and repair outcomes. Results: A total of 41 patients were included in this study. Motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) were the most common cause of orbital fractures, accounting for (53.7%) of the patients. Human norovirus (HuNoV) is a significant cause of gastroenteritis worldwide, affecting people of all age groups. There are currently no vaccines or drugs available, leaving susceptible populations vulnerable to severe or protracted illness. A HuNoV cultivation system is pivotal for screening norovirus antivirals. While the human intestinal enteroid cultivation system allows robust replication of multiple HuNoV strains, it presents technical and cost barriers. Tulane virus (TV), a surrogate for HuNoV, replicates well in monkey kidney cell lines and is closely related to norovirus in cellular biology. Background: HIV-tuberculosis (HIV-TB) coinfection poses a significant public health challenge among children in high-burden African regions. Most previous transcriptomic studies have concentrated on adults and non-African populations, primarily analyzing gene-level differential expression. This approach overlooks multi-isoform complexity and may obscure both inherent and pathogen-induced intragenic heterogeneity. This multi-center case-control study aimed to identify and characterize the transcript-level landscape of HIV-TB coinfection in children from different African regions.

Methods: We analyzed whole-blood RNA sequencing data from 97 children with and without tuberculosis from Uganda (East Africa) and from Botswana and Eswatini (Southern Africa). Reads were quality-controlled, and low-abundance transcripts filtered out. …

This study describes the transcriptional heterogeneity of murine and human naive CD4+ T cells as comprising multiple discrete clusters that impact CD4+ T cell fate and trajectories. Naive CD4+ T cells experiencing inflammatory environments exhibit an altered transcriptional state that biases their differentiation trajectories.

Medical drone delivery (MDD), defined as the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles to transport medical products, is an emerging technological innovation responding to persistent health supply chain challenges in rural and low-resource settings. Within sub-Saharan Africa, MDD systems have demonstrated large-scale success in improving key health outcomes, health supply chain efficiency, and reductions in medical product stockouts and wastage. However, the existing evidence base on the effectiveness of this technology is dominated by quantitative, performance-based evaluations, with limited emphasis on the community-driven mechanisms that shape such outcomes. Though removed from the time of the modernists, Raymond Carver shares similar interests with Woolf and Kafka in his late century story "Cathedral," as he investigates art's capacity for creating meaning, or "re-enchanting." While Carver investigates the function of art in a chaotic world, his story does not feature a central artist figure or a hierarchical social structure surrounding the artistic process, but rather an organic artistic experience which creates community among the characters. The transverse abdominis plane (TAP) block has been suggested as a pain management adjunct for laparoscopic surgical approaches. The administration of a TAP block involves using ultrasound guidance to inject local anesthetic into the fascial plane between the internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles. Current evidence demonstrates that the utilization of TAP blocks lead to lower postoperative pain scores and overall lower narcotic consumption in the postoperative period. A 64-year-old female presented for a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. High-acuity environments (emergency departments and critical care units) do not hold a monopoly on trauma, and it is not limited solely to the experience from the perspective of the patient. Nurses routinely mobilize in response to life-threatening events, detouring resource and attention in a coordinated effort to stabilize critically ill patients. Though essential for patient survival, the cumulative psychological burden of such events on nurses is often disregarded or dismissed. Repeated exposure to mortality and emotionally charged clinical presentations can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and moral distress. Achieving sustainability in resource-intensive industries such as cement production requires a transition away from synthetic plastic packaging toward biodegradable alternatives that reduce long-term environmental harm. This study evaluates and ranks feasible biodegradable packaging options for cement manufacturers using an integrated multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) framework. Entropy and Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) weighting techniques are combined with the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR), and the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE II) to assess materials across biodegradability, recyclability, lifecycle impacts, and cost performance. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in mycological research. It highlights how AI supports the identification of fungal taxa at both microscopic and macroscopic levels, facilitates the detection of toxic species, contributes to ecological mapping, aids in discovering new fungal bioproducts, and enhances precision agriculture practices. Boron (B) toxicity disrupts multiple metabolic and signaling processes in plants, yet its interaction with post-translational regulators remains poorly understood. The E3 ubiquitin ligase NITROGEN LIMITATION ADAPTATION (NLA) is known to control nutrient transporter turnover, but its role in B toxicity responses has not been previously characterized. Here, we present the first genome-wide transcriptomic analysis of nla mutant Arabidopsis thaliana exposed to mild (1 mM) and moderate (2 mM) B toxicity. Radish is a widely cultivated vegetable with known medicinal value and produces siliques that differ significantly in number and size. The present study compares normal Duanye-13 radish (CK-type) siliques with mutant radish siliques induced by chemical mutagenesis at the young (YS), short (SS), and long (LS) silique stages. Differences in long noncoding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA) expression were investigated using high-throughput RNA sequencing and bioinformatic analyses, revealing 45 324 new lncRNAs in radish siliques. lncRNA expression was higher in YS and LS mutant lines than in CK-type lines, and expression in SS mutants tended to be lower than in CK-type lines. …

The Chantasri-Dressel-Jordan (CDJ) stochastic path integral formalism (Chantasri et al. 2013 and 2015) characterizes the statistics of the readouts and the most likely conditional evolution of continuously monitored quantum systems involving a few qubits or quantum harmonic oscillators in Gaussian states. In our work, we generalize the CDJ formalism to arbitrary continuously monitored systems by introducing a costate operator. We then prescribe a generalized Pontryagin's maximum principle for quantum systems undergoing arbitrary evolution and find conditions on optimal control protocols. Cystic fibrosis (CF) and sickle cell disease (SCD) are associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), and this risk is exacerbated by hospitalization. VTE prophylaxis nonadministration is a VTE risk factor. The objective of this study was to characterize VTE prophylaxis nonadministration among patients with either CF or SCD compared with medically ill patients without CF or SCD. We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study of hospitalized patients who were prescribed at least 2 doses of pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis.
