Rural hospitals operate on thin margins, have limited access to capital, and face a heightened risk of closure. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) distributed more than $170 billion to health care providers to offset revenue losses and preserve access to care. Most evaluations of PRF have focused on profitability, which may overstate financial resilience by overlooking liquidity. Using Hospital Cost Reports for hospitals from 2014-2023, we examined trends in Days Cash on Hand (DCOH), operating margin, total margin, and PRF funding intensity by rurality and ownership. We prove that all varieties generated by weakening relation algebras over duals of limit ordinals have a decidable equational theory. We also show that there are only countably-many such varieties and they form a chain that embeds in. The time warp algebra is isomorphic to one of these weakening relation algebras (over the dual of the naturals), so we obtain the main result of a recent publication as a special case. The algebras we study connect to the theory of relation algebras, to time warps and graded modalities, and to the algebraic semantics of substructural logics. Our methods are inspired …

INTRODUCTION: Robotic-assisted surgeries in orthopaedics have increased, particularly in hip and knee arthroplasty and spine surgeries. This study evaluates national utilization trends of robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgeries and demographic and geographic distribution of patients undergoing these surgeries.

METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty, total and partial knee arthroplasty, or spine arthrodesis from 2017 to 2023 using the TriNetX database. Accurately characterizing the transfer of apixaban and rivaroxaban into human milk is essential for evaluating their safety during lactation and for guiding anticoagulant therapy in breastfeeding patients. This study aimed to establish a mechanistic physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling approach linking maternal exposure, mammary drug transport, and infant systemic levels for both anticoagulants. Passive permeability and efflux transport across the mammary epithelium were measured using an in vitro human mammary epithelial cell model, providing information on diffusion and transporter-mediated clearance, whereas milk protein binding was determined using rapid equilibrium dialysis to account for unbound drug available for transfer. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a lethal and rapidly progressive hematologic malignancy with high rates of relapse and treatment refractoriness. Management of AML is complicated by biological heterogeneity in a disease that is broadly defined by the clonal expansion of myeloblasts that otherwise play an important role in healthy marrow tissues. While subtypes of AML are increasingly defined by druggable driver mutations including FLT3-ITD, IDH1, IDH2, and NPM1, conventional chemotherapy and reduced intensity induction regimens (e.g., azacitidine-venetoclax) remain therapeutic backbones. In this dissertation, I present intra-, inter-, and extra-textual felt responses to encounters with the otherworldly as described in Late Medieval texts as a lens through which to consider personal, social, and national imaginative potential surrounding contemporary issues across genres and disciplines. I argue that the use of otherworlds and otherworldly agents as both personally and rhetorically compelling analogues through which contemporary issues can be explored. I start my discussion of the felt impacts of encounters with the Arthurian otherworldly, with a particular focus on Glastonbury and Arthur’s alleged grave there, and how they transmit affects of sovereign authority. This project examines selected works by Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke, and Lili Boulanger that contain representations of night, dream, and mythology. These composers were influenced by the prevailing artistic movements during their lives, including German Romanticism, Impressionism, and Symbolism, which emphasized nocturnal landscapes, supernatural beings, and liminal states. Descriptive analysis and performance recommendations are provided for selected Lieder by Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke’s Morpheus, and Lili Boulanger’s Nocturne. The resistance of composite resins to discoloration, staining, and aging is essential for preserving both the aesthetic quality and long-term durability of dental restorations.

The study aims to evaluate the effects of artificial accelerated aging (AAA) and red wine staining on the color stability of resin composites.

Intervention to delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an important treatment strategy but detecting at-risk individuals before significant disease progression remains challenging. This study evaluates the relationship between hippocampal microstructure and verbal cognition in cognitively intact older adults, focusing on the differences between APOΕ ε4 allele carriers and noncarriers. Participants (n = 41 noncarriers, 33 carriers) over 60 years old (mean ± SD: carriers 71 ± 6.6; noncarriers 71 ± 6.4 years) underwent diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) and volumetric assessments. Objective: To develop an artificial intelligence (AI) driven plan tradeoff decision making assistant for radiation oncologists. Methods: A user interface (UI) was developed to integrate the assistant with the treatment planning system to facilitate prescription decision process. The assistant is powered by a machine learning core which was trained to learn the balance between planning target volume (PTV) coverage and organs-at-risk (OAR) sparing. A group of 98 pancreatic stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) cases were retrospectively included for this study. Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a cerebrovascular disorder characterized by the progressive deposition of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides within the walls of small to medium-sized cerebral blood vessels. As a prevalent comorbidity of Alzheimer's disease, CAA disproportionately affects the aging population, with an estimated 25% of individuals over 50 and approximately 50% of those over 80 exhibiting moderate to severe pathology. The condition is clinically significant due to its strong associations with microbleeds, intracranial hemorrhage, and cognitive decline. Warming waters and declining catch have significantly impacted Rhode Island’s commercial lobster industry. As ocean conditions shift, new species such as black sea bass are moving northward, increasing predation on juvenile lobsters and intensifying ecological competition. The warming water also increases the percentage of lobsters experiencing a fatal bacterial disease called Epizootic Shell Rot Disease. These environmental pressures, combined with trap reductions implemented in response to the Southern New England lobster stock collapse, have forced many lobstermen out of the industry. Despite decades of research on student retention, first-year attrition continues to disproportionately affect first-generation, low-income, and racially minoritized students. Institutional responses have largely emphasized financial aid, advising reform, and classroom-based interventions. However, students spend much of their first year within residential environments; spaces that profoundly shape belonging, identity development, and daily engagement. This study argues that residential life is not merely a housing function but a critical, and often underexamined, site of equity-driven student persistence. The ectodomain of matrix protein 2 (M2e) is highly conserved among influenza A viruses and represents an attractive target for universal influenza vaccines. Because M2e is weakly immunogenic, highly immunogenic platforms are needed to elicit protective responses. We recently developed a flagellin-displayed hepatitis B core (HBc) virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine (FH-M2e VLPs) in which the surface-exposed D3 domain of FljB was replaced with four tandem M2e copies from human H1/H3, swine H1, and avian H5/H7 strains. FH-M2e VLPs induced high anti-M2e IgG and conferred cross-protection in mice; however, they also elicited substantial anti-FljB (anti-flagellin) antibodies. We hypothesized that removing the …

Depression and hypertension are prevalent chronic conditions in the United States and may co-occur due to shared behavioral and physiological risk factors. This study examined the association between depression and hypertension among U.S. adults using nationally representative survey data.

Methods

A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the 2021–2023 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Depression was defined as a Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score ≥10. Hypertension was defined by measured systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg, self-reported physician diagnosis, or antihypertensive medication use.
