For the last two years, the public discussion surrounding global health has focused almost entirely on COVID-19. In the meantime, other historic and dangerous diseases have taken a backseat. This paper discusses a study that was carried out with the aim of discovering the perceptions of the singular “they” pronoun (both general and specified) among college students with a focus on the interaction of the gender of the participant with their perceptions. The linguistic variables considered were the level of acceptability of different pronouns, pronouns used by participants, and direct perceptions of the singular “they,” while the social variables were gender, age, first language, and academic year. A major source of influence on Japanese musicians has historically been Western art, and the resulting music has also served to influence much of Western contemporary music. This paper forms a timeline containing some key moments in Japanese music history, including the pioneering of Japanese-language rock, synth-pop, and Shibuya-kei. This investigation into these important moments is supplemented by quotes from interviews of musicians, including Haruomi Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Happy End, Keigo Oyamada of Flipper’s Guitar, and Yasuharu Konishi of Pizzicato Five. For decades, private employers, nonprofits, and philanthropic institutions have implemented voluntary diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs to promote opportunity, mitigate bias, enhance organizational performance, and advance social justice. These initiatives were long understood to comply with civil rights law. But following Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (SFFA), that understanding is steadily under attack.

Although SFFA's holding is confined to college admissions, the case's rhetoric has increasingly been appropriated in a broader campaign to dismantle DEI across sectors. Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium

This mixed-methods program development capstone project aimed to assess whether structured sensory supports improve academic engagement and student behavior in the school setting. A sensory pathway, calm corner, and sensory toolkit were designed, implemented, and evaluated within an elementary school. A digital manual was also created to facilitate staff education and long-term sustainability of the program. Findings from pre- and post-surveys and observation suggest potential improvements in academic engagement, student behavior, and staff knowledge following program implementation.

Harms fall disproportionately on historically marginalized students (Park & Kang, 2020) and occur across student–student, faculty–student, and faculty–faculty interactions (Clark & Kenski, 2022). Many students normalize bullying as a “rite of passage” (Hale & Phillips, 2019), further undermining respect (Birks et al., 2019). Nurses on inpatient units frequently experience interrupted or missed meal breaks due to coworker requests, phone calls, alarm systems (such as equipment alarms and call lights), inadequate staffing to cover breaks, and a lack of a coordinated shift plan for meal breaks. Repeatedly forfeiting protected break time contributes to physical and mental fatigue and is a modifiable workplace stressor. Left unaddressed, this stressor may progress into burnout, a significant occupational risk for nurses.

The audience for classical music is declining, according to data from the National Endowment for the Arts. In the face of such challenges, aspiring music professionals may find inspiration in the musicological illumination of pertinent historical case studies. This paper offers one such example via a foundational exploration of the musical career of Hungarian American violinist, conductor, and composer Frederic Balazs.
