Biology is the study of life, but students often hold misconceptions about what it means to be alive, with children often associating life with movement. These misconceptions can lead to biases in what students think is alive, with younger children often not thinking of plants as living given their lack of discernable movement. Despite this past work, there have been no prior studies that we are aware of that have examined how students in introductory biology conceptualize what it means to be alive. Providing engaging and equitable learning experiences across geographically separated campuses remains an ongoing challenge in health professions education. This educational innovation describes the implementation of holographic (“holobox”) instruction across pre-recorded and live delivery formats within a multi-campus Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum, with preliminary evaluation of learner engagement and feasibility.   Through collaboration with UNMC's Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL), holobox-supported instruction was integrated into learning activities for 63 second-year DPT learners across two campuses. Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of proximal non-obstructive coronary plaques detected by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in predicting acute coronary syndrome (ACS) among patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: This retrospective cohort included patients with stable CAD who underwent CCTA at Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan, between January and December 2023. Of 458 patients with non-obstructive plaques, 416 met inclusion criteria and were followed for 18 months. Despite of advances in cardiac and surgical care, some children with complex congenital heart disease remain cyanotic in adulthood. The grown-up cyanotic congenital heart diseases are heterogeneous due to their underlying cardiac anatomy and physiology. Other than cardiovascular problems, they patients are also faced with multi-system complications in the long run. Therefore, these patients need nuanced and comprehensive assessment, regular follow-up monitoring, and multi-facet management. In this article, the types and classification of cyanotic congenital heart diseases, the multi-system complications and the approach to assessment and treatment will be presented.

The agricultural sector is the primary source of livelihood for communities in Southeast Asia; however, these activities increase the risk of exposure to zoonotic diseases, particularly leptospirosis. This literature review aims to identify risk factors for leptospirosis among agricultural workers in Southeast Asia. Stunting is a problem in Indonesia. In 2022, Kedaung Wetan and Selapajang Villages in Neglasari sub-district, Tangerang City, were identified as a priority. This study aimed to identify factors associated with stunting among children (6 – 59 months) in these villages. A matched case-control study consisting of 214 children (107 cases and 107 controls) was conducted, with individual matching based on age, sex, and prematurity at birth. Cases were children with height-for-age (H/A) measurement less than -2SD (according to WHO standard), while controls were children with H/A equal to or greater than -2SD. Background: The concept of leg dominance is important in clinical settings. Single-leg hop (SLH) tests are frequently used to assess injury-risk and guide return-to-sport decision after lower-limb injury, yet the influence of limb dominance on SLH performance in non-injured young athletes remains unclear. The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools presents new opportunities for higher education, particularly in designing courses that are rigorous, engaging, and adaptable. This poster demonstrates how generative AI tools can improve teaching and learning through a case study of developing an online course: Fundamentals of Program Evaluation. In this poster, we illustrate how generative AI can be utilized to support brainstorming, content generation, visual design, assessments, and inclusive adaptations. We also discuss risks, ethical considerations, and practical strategies for thoughtful integration. Introduction While early research indicated students preferred human narration over artificial intelligence (AI) voices, more recent studies have yielded mixed results, with some finding no significant difference in learner preferences for module narration. The purpose of this study was to determine whether professional level health science students exhibit a significant preference between human and AI generated narration in educational e-modules.   Methods Our study used a noninferiority design to assess whether AI voices are comparably effective to human voice. Students in accelerated, year-long Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) programs experience different stressors that can affect their well-being and ability to persist in the program. This study aimed to identify the main sources of stress among MLS students and to examine how stress levels vary by demographic factors. MLS students in a university program completed a stress survey each semester from May 2022 to May 2024. The survey asked about demographics and included questions about stress in academic, professional, and personal areas. Medical schools are faced with the challenge of helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed in an intensive education environment. To ease the transition, promote evidence-based study strategies, and emphasize student well-being, a voluntary weeklong Academic Preparedness Program (APP) was implemented and offered to all incoming first year medical students. This project evaluated program acceptability and effectiveness as well as its impact on block scores. Background: In 2020, Nebraska’s HIV prevalence was 146 per 100,000 individuals, with 107 new diagnoses in 2021. Of the 2,497 people living with HIV (PWH) statewide, 23% resided in rural areas. Rural diagnoses nearly doubled in 2021, accounting for 35% of new cases. At presentation, rural PWH had significantly lower mean CD4 counts compared to their urban counterparts (378 vs. 953 cells/mm³), suggesting delays in diagnosis and care. In response, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Specialty Care Clinic implemented the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) model to enhance rural provider support through virtual lectures and case-based learning. …

In 2023, 13.5% of U.S. households and 12.9% of Nebraska households experienced food insecurity. The negative effect of food insecurity on the health of patients is well known and includes decreased intake of nutritious foods, increased intake of carbohydrate‑dense foods, and having to choose between paying for food versus other health needs. Food insecurity has also been associated with multiple chronic conditions (asthma, bronchitis, COPD, chronic pain, diabetes, kidney disease, sleep disorders) and lower overall health status. Forest fires and rain-on-snow events in the seasonal snow zone of the Pacific Northwest are increasing in frequency and magnitude, yet the combined impacts of these events on snowpack and water resources remain poorly understood. We show that forest fires doubled midwinter snowmelt proportions in 2023 and 2024 compared to unburned reference sites in the western Oregon Cascades. Data from snow monitoring and micrometeorological stations installed across an elevational gradient revealed increased snowpack vulnerability during midwinter rain-on-snow events, where we observed more snowmelt per rain-on-snow event in the burned forest, indicating higher vulnerability of these snowpacks to rapid melt, increasing …

This study explores how accounting analytics can be leveraged to enhance payroll accuracy and improve fraud detection in U.S. public-sector institutions, addressing persistent irregularities amid rising demands for fiscal transparency. The research employs a qualitative design with secondary sources including academic literature, reports, and case studies. The literature identifies successful analytics implementation, such as Treasury OPI’s machine learning for data integration for unemployment claims. These precedents demonstrate direct transferability to payroll’s high volume and rules-based structure. The increasing availability of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools has renewed concerns about the role of human reasoning in student learning. Although AI systems can efficiently generate explanations, uncritical reliance on automated outputs risks diminishing students’ engagement with interpretation and justification. This paper presents an instructional strategy that attempts to re-centers human reasoning by positioning AI as a scaffold rather than a substitute for thinking. SACAD: Scholarly Activities

Research supports the role of prosocial leisure activities in reducing justice system involvement. Athletic-based programs have mixed findings regarding reducing system involvement among youth. However, when implemented correctly, sports programs can greatly benefit youth by providing them with structured adult supervision and mentorship. This poster briefly introduces the social bond theory supporting the influence of athletics and highlights potential negative associations with athletic-based programs. This poster concludes with a review of current implementation and future guidance.
