The Kanarra Fold-Thrust Structure - The Leading Edge Of The Sevier Fold-Thrust Belt, Southwestern Utah: Geology Of The Intermountain West, William J. Chandonia, John P. Hogan Jan 2023

The Kanarra Fold-Thrust Structure - The Leading Edge Of The Sevier Fold-Thrust Belt, Southwestern Utah: Geology Of The Intermountain West, William J. Chandonia, John P. Hogan

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The multiple origins proposed for the Kanarra anticline in southwestern Utah as a drag-fold along the Hurricane fault, a Laramide monocline, a Sevier fault-propagation fold, or a combination of these processes, serve to muddy its tectonic significance. This in part reflects the structural complexity of the exposed eastern half of the fold. The fold evolved from open and up-right to overturned and tight, is cross-cut by multiple faults, and was subsequently dismembered by the Hurricane fault. The western half of the fold is obscured because of burial, along with the hanging wall of the Hurricane fault, beneath Neogene and younger …

Introduction To Marx, Revolution, And Social Democracy, Philip J. Kain Jan 2023

Introduction To Marx, Revolution, And Social Democracy, Philip J. Kain

Philosophy

Many people consider Marx to be a totalitarian and Soviet Marxism the realization of his thought.1 If one shows them the texts, proves to them that Marx was a radical democrat, they often flip and think him utopian. Totalitarian or utopian-for many those seem to be the alternatives. How might one combat this completely mistaken conception?

What if one could show that European social democracy exemplified Marx's thought far better than did Soviet Marxism?2 If social democracy is closer to being the true heir of Marx, then all claims of totalitarianism evaporate. There is nothing remotely totalitarian about …

Inspection Assignment Form For Product Quality Control Using Neutrosophic Logic, Maissam Jdid, Florentin Smarandache, Said Broumi

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

During the production process, production companies need to monitor the finished products and ensure their quality, which imposes on them the appointment of inspectors for auditing, and this appointment costs the company amounts that affect the general profit, so it strives to make this cost as low as possible and that the audit process is carried out with high accuracy because in case that the finished products do not conform to the basic specifications of the product, the company is required to pay a fine. In this research, we will formulate the text of the problem appropriately for such a …

Evaluating Knowledge Gaps In Sea-Level Rise Assessments From The United States, Andra J. Garner, Sarah E. Sosa, Fangyi Tan, Christabel Wan Jie Tan, Gregory G. Garner, Benjamin P. Horton

School of Earth & Environment Departmental Research

There have been many scientific advances regarding future sea-level projections, however it is unclear if these have been transferred to assessment reports used by stakeholders. Here, we present a first-of-its-kind comprehensive analysis of regional sea-level rise (SLR) assessments for the United States (U.S.). We identify variations in time horizons over which regions plan for SLR, with 25 projections from the U.S. Northeast and West that extend to 2150 or beyond, but no projections from the U.S. South beyond 2100. The majority of 2100 projections from the U.S. Northeast (77%) and West (83%) include ranges of future SLR, while 88% of …

Association Between Balance Confidence And Basic Walking Abilities In People With Unilateral Transtibial Lower-Limb Amputations: A Cross-Sectional Study, Humberto Omaña, Courtney Frengopoulos, Manuel Montero-Odasso, Michael W. Payne, Ricardo Viana, Susan W. Hunter Jan 2023

Association Between Balance Confidence And Basic Walking Abilities In People With Unilateral Transtibial Lower-Limb Amputations: A Cross-Sectional Study, Humberto Omaña, Courtney Frengopoulos, Manuel Montero-Odasso, Michael W. Payne, Ricardo Viana, Susan W. Hunter

Physical Therapy Publications

INTRODUCTION: Falls are common for people with lower-limb amputations (PLLA). Low balance confidence is also prevalent, is worse in PLLA not reporting walking automaticity, and is known to negatively affect prosthesis use, social engagement, and quality of life. Moreover, walking with a prosthesis requires continuous attention. Low balance confidence may act as a distractor imposing an additional cognitive load on the already cognitively demanding task of walking with a prosthesis.

METHODS: Adults with unilateral, transtibial amputations were recruited. The Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) scale quantified balance confidence. The L Test assessed basic walking abilities under single-task (ST) (usual) and dual-task …

In-Vial Detection Of Protein Denaturation Using Intrinsic Fluorescence Anisotropy, Krishnakumar Chullipalliyalil, Khaled Elkassas, Michael Mcauliffe, Sonja Vucen, Abina Crean Jan 2023

In-Vial Detection Of Protein Denaturation Using Intrinsic Fluorescence Anisotropy, Krishnakumar Chullipalliyalil, Khaled Elkassas, Michael Mcauliffe, Sonja Vucen, Abina Crean

Cappa Publications

The conventional quality control techniques for identifying the denaturation of biopharmaceuticals includes sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for identifying fragmentation, ion exchange chromatography and isoelectric focusing for identifying deamidation, reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for identifying oxidation, and size-exclusion HPLC for identifying aggregation. These stability assessments require essential processes that are destructive to the product tested. All these techniques are lab based and require sample removal from a sealed storage vial, which can breach the sterility. In this work, we investigate the heat- and surfactant-induced denaturation of an in-vial-stored model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), by analyzing its intrinsic fluorescence …

Strengthening Policies And Structures To Combat Illicit Tobacco Trade In The Philippines, John Rafael Y. Arda, Alen Josef A. Santiago Jan 2023

Strengthening Policies And Structures To Combat Illicit Tobacco Trade In The Philippines, John Rafael Y. Arda, Alen Josef A. Santiago

Ateneo School of Government Publications

The Philippines has been seeing an increase in illicit tobacco trade in recent years, undermining the impacts of legal measures such as tobacco products' taxation and regulation due to circumvention of established avenues and costing the government its revenue. Currently, the country has twelve policies related to the prevention of illicit tobacco trade with gaps identified in its lack of licensing systems for tobacco retailers and policies on law enforcement cooperation, which manifests in the country being fully compliant to only 5 of the 16 articles under the World Health Organization's Illicit Tobacco Trade Protocol. It is recommended that the …

Arlen Specter: How A Jewish Boy From Kansas Became A Mediator For Middle East Peace, Georgia G. Skuza Jan 2023

Arlen Specter: How A Jewish Boy From Kansas Became A Mediator For Middle East Peace, Georgia G. Skuza

Arlen Specter Center Research Fellowship

Amongst all the things Senator Arlen Specter had accomplished in his thirty years as a United States Senator, one of the most fascinating is that of the late Senators work on the Israel-Palestine conflict. The long-held debate of the borders surrounding Israel & Palestine has made politicians and people chose sides. As a Jewish individual, Senator Specter had to set aside his religious and personal beliefs to affectively pass legislation in the state of Pennsylvania and United States Congress. One of Senator Specter’s largest areas of study was Middle East Diplomacy. His Pro-Israel stance led him to have an aura …
