What Keeps Teachers: A Systematic Review Of Induction And Early-Career Teacher Retention In Rural Schools, Bobbie Jean Mcdonough

Teacher retention remains a persistent challenge in United States education, particularly in rural K–12 public schools. This systematic review synthesized empirical research on induction and early-career teacher retention in rural United States settings published between 2000 and 2025. Guided by a postpositivist framework and aligned with PRISMA 2020 standards, 56 studies met inclusion criteria following structured database searches and multi-stage screening. Findings across the included studies indicate that retention was most consistently associated with induction, mentoring, professional learning, responsive leadership, collegial relationships, and teachers’ integration into their school and community, with no single support appearing sufficient in isolation. In the U.S. West, research points to a significant transformation of rural places, including rural blight, a decline in extractive industries, and changing migration patterns. In Northern New Mexico, these rural transformations are occurring alongside a long and continuing history of tensions and conflicts relating to land, water, and property regimes, which are intertwined with notions of identity, culture, and power. Using participant observation and semi-structured interviews, this thesis explores how rural transformations, particularly shifting land ownership, have influenced identities and cultural values along the Upper Rio Chama in Northern New Mexico. Consumer transgressions against firms involve moral violations in which consumers take advantage of loopholes in companies’ return and satisfaction-guaranteed policies or the lack of strict enforcement against password sharing, piracy, shoplifting, wardrobing, coupon stacking, promotion abuse, and fraud. Drawing on the timeless tale of Robin Hood, the legendary outlaw who stands up against injustice, the authors demonstrate that consumers use a Robin Hood justification to legitimize their transgressions against firms. Building on moral foundations theory, this research demonstrates that political ideology impacts consumers’ transgression behavior and the perceived morality of these practices. Existing research on AI cultural biases predominantly focuses on Western models, overlooking critical gaps in non-Western models. We conduct a comparative analysis of AI models – ChatGPT (U.S. developed) and ErnieBot (China developed) – from different cultures to investigate how corresponding cultural biases manifest in their outputs. Additionally, we examine how cultural alignment between human users and AI models impacts their collaborative creative performance and the underlying psychological mechanisms. The following qualitative single-case design study investigates the manner in which autonomy is negotiated and supported in dementia care with particular emphasis on communication. Observational data and semi-structured interviews provided raw data that was coded, themed, and interpreted to better understand how decisions were made among the patient with dementia, the caregiver, and her healthcare team. Results fell into two themes where autonomy was limited or autonomy was active, illustrating the continuous negotiation process. Findings indicate that autonomy is relational, directly affected by the individual, their care team, and their corresponding prejudices. Findings also indicate that the removal of autonomy …

This thesis examines the work of Suzanne Valadon (1865–1938) through a feminist art historical lens, challenging long-standing interpretations of her female nudes as inherently resistant to the conventions of Western art. Structured as a three-part lecture series, the project situates Valadon within a visual tradition in which women have been overwhelmingly represented by men, arguing that her engagement with the nude remains embedded in the same systems of objectification it is often said to subvert. Lecture One establishes the historical framework by tracing enduring archetypes of femininity, demonstrating how representations of women have functioned as projections of gendered power. Lecture …

Species of the genus Umbelopsis are ubiquitous soil saprotrophic fungi known for their role in ecological nutrient cycling and biotechnological potential in lipid production. Here, we present the genome assembly of Umbelopsis sp. strain THIF13, which is characterized by its capability to produce carbonyl sulfide. Using PacBio Sequel long-read data, a high-quality genome assembly was generated comprising 18 contigs totaling 27.2 Mb, which is larger than other Umbelopsis genomes, with an N50 of 1.77 Mb. Notably, 16 contigs were flanked by telomeric repeats at both ends. The assembly showed high completeness, with 98.1% complete Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs and 11.15% …

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in radiology to improve diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency; however, there is limited standardized research comparing its performance across imaging modalities. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of AI in X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, analyzing peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025. Data were extracted on key performance metrics, including sensitivity, specificity, interpretation time, and error rates, to enable cross-modality comparison. Breast implants can limit the effectiveness of traditional imaging methods like mammography and ultrasound by obscuring underlying tissue and masking abnormalities. This literature review highlights findings from six studies demonstrating that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides superior accuracy in both cancer detection and implant evaluation. MRI consistently shows higher sensitivity and specificity, effectively identifying tumors, assessing their size and spread, and detecting implant ruptures with strong agreement to surgical outcomes. It also enables long-term monitoring by revealing silent complications and improving screening compliance in post-reconstruction patients. The Pharmacogene Variation Consortium (PharmVar) provides nomenclature for the highly polymorphic human N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) gene. NAT2 metabolizes several clinically used drugs including isoniazid, hydralazine, amifampridine, procainamide, and sulfonamides such as dapsone, and also some highly carcinogenic arylamines. Systematic nomenclature describing NAT2 variation is essential for pharmacogenetic testing, genotype interpretation, and translation to phenotype in research and clinical settings. This GeneFocus provides an overview of NAT2 variation and describes important changes to its star allele-based nomenclature that were made as it was transitioned to PharmVar in March 2024. BACKGROUND: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital malformation, and the most severe type, single ventricle (SV) heart disease, requires the Fontan surgical palliation. Fontan palliation minimizes hypoxemia and volume overload by separating systemic and pulmonary circulations, resulting in the absence of a sub-pulmonary pump. Skeletal muscle health may have a greater relative contribution to overall functional capacity of those with SV physiology, via the skeletal muscle (SkM) pump mechanism and oxidative capacity. Anthocyanins are naturally occurring flavonoid pigments widely distributed in plants and are recognized for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying their potential immunomodulatory effects remain poorly characterized, particularly regarding their direct interactions with key signaling cytokines. In this study, a set of selected anthocyanins was investigated using a hierarchical computational workflow targeting three major pro-inflammatory cytokines: interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-17 (IL-17), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Molecular docking analyses identified primulin and antirrhinin as the most favorable binders, forming stabilizing hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions within predicted cytokine interaction interfaces. These disturbance-dependent systems rely on periodic fire and grazing to maintain plant diversity and ecosystem function. This study evaluates prairie restoration strategies by testing predictions from the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis and the Patch Mosaic Burn Hypothesis. The study site was divided into three treatments: prescribed burned only (B), prescribed burned with mowing (BM) to simulate grazing, and an undisturbed control (C). Detecting drones in video streaming environments remains challenging in computer vision due to scale variation and background complexity. Building up from prior work in real-time detection and skeletonization for streaming environments, this study aims to improve small object detection through Skeletonization and a Small-Object-Aware Detection Transformer framework, which uses DETR technology as a foundational step toward reliable motion prediction in dynamic aerial scenes. A transformer-based detection model was trained on a drone dataset converted to COCO format and evaluated using standard COCO metrics, including AP, AP50, and AP_small. Objectives:

Contraceptive coercion during contraceptive counseling can limit pregnancy-capable individuals’ contraceptive autonomy over decision-making and use. We examined the contraceptive counseling experiences of adolescent and young adult women for evidence of contraceptive coercion.

Study design:

This study involved individual interviews with a racially diverse sample of 46 adolescents and young adults, ages 16–24, assigned female at birth, and residing in one of five southern states. All participants self-identified as women. The study team conducted interviews between October 2023 and March 2024. We used codebook thematic analysis to examine participants’ accounts of healthcare interactions about contraception.

This included: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The study was a mixed methods design using qualitative research methods of surveys and interviews to analyze the teachers’ perceptions on the impact of social-emotional learning. Quantitative analysis reviewed attendance and discipline data to determine the impact of social-emotional learning on these factors. According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), ovarian reserve decreases with a woman’s age. Women are born with approximately 1 million eggs; this number decreases over time. When a woman reaches 35 years of age, which is considered advanced maternal age, their egg count and quality decline.
