The classical economic interdependence argument states that trade and investment between countries make conflict less likely, because they increase the opportunity costs of war. War means that trade and investment will dry up, to the detriment of society as a whole. The increased opportunity costs of war (vis-`a-vis peace) means war will be less likely to occur between interdependent states. Certain strands of realism have challenged this assertion. They argue that expectations that trade will decline in future can be a strong incentive for initiating conflict. The Cold War is often regarded as a political and economic struggle between capitalism and communism. Recent post-Cold War scholars have uncovered that the nations allied to either side were not as united as the conventional understanding of the subject has previously been thought. Using recent publications, this paper reports on the how the diverging interests between the Soviet Union and People’s Republic of China drove a wedge in the communist world. With equity, diversity, and inclusion in mind, and to improve access to the juvenile biographies in the University of Central Florida Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) Library, librarians from cataloging, CMC and ILL, analyzed 952 bibliographic records and enhanced subject headings with biographees' gender, race, nationality and other information. Statistics were compiled to measure subject headings for biases and inequalities. Local subjects, LCSH, LC Demographic Group Terms and Homosaurus terms were added to aid students to discover materials for the diverse population they will teach.

While one could reasonably characterize fan fiction as "socially contro- versial,” with some lauding the practice as a creative outlet and others meeting it with sneers, legally speaking, its position is undeniably precarious. Fan con- tent, including fan fiction and fan films, lives in the liminal space between cop- yright infringement and fair use. Fan creators argue their works are motivated by a desire to connect with beloved copyrighted expressive works—frequently popular media franchises—and are intended only for enjoyment by themselves and very small fan communities. The craft beer industry, for example, is fond of such allusions, incorporating references to movies, comic books, and video games in product names and beer labels. Skin of colour or pigmented skin has unique characteristics: it has a higher eumelanin-to-pheomelanin ratio, more mature melanosomes, an increased amount of melanin distributed in the upper layers of the epidermis, and more efficient DNA repair compared with lighter skin. However, individuals with skin of colour are at a significant risk of skin damage caused by ultraviolet radiation, including the development of photodermatoses and photoageing changes such as uneven skin tone, and are predisposed to pigmentary disorders. In fact, one of the most common conditions leading to dermatology consultations by patients with skin of colour is photoexacerbated pigmentary disorders. Unfortunately, …

Students need academic tools and digital skills for proper social interactions in a digital society. Researchers Ribble and Park (2019) designed the S3 Framework which stresses the importance of developing safe, savvy, and social digital citizens. Using this framework, a series of interventions were developed for students and staff to increase the demonstration of appropriate digital literacy skills and digital citizenship. This mixed-methods study provided the opportunity for 6th-grade students to receive an additional intervention for internet safety, along with students and teachers sharing their knowledge and understanding of being safe, savvy, and social digital citizens. The perpetual foreigner stereotype is the misconception that people of Asian descent are inescapably foreign and never truly “American.” This stereotype has plagued Asian Americans since the first Asian immigrants arrived in America and it continues to negatively impact Asian Americans today, regardless of the years, or even generations, that they have lived in the United States. This Comment first breaks down the perpetual foreigner stereotype into three “pillars”: First, Asian Americans, despite their best efforts to assimilate, are irreducibly foreign and therefore are unentitled to the rights and protections guaranteed to American citizens. (Feb. 10, 2023)—ETSU Gatton College of Pharmacy’s American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists Patient Care Operations committee hosted local Girl Scout troops and facilitated learning activities for the scouts to participate in related to first aid and each operations mission. 

Operation Heart & Diabetes explained how to handle urgent first aid issues, like an epi-pen for allergic reaction). The scouts participated in an interactive science experiment to show how blood flows and how it can be stopped in the case of an emergency. The girls made their very own portable first aid kit to take home.

Teachers working in a special education self-contained classroom were required to implement evidence-based practices and interventions, rarely researched in a school setting, with fidelity to meet the needs of students with intellectual disabilities. Evidence-based practices and interventions for students with intellectual disabilities were researched in clinical settings with one to three student participants and without a common evaluation tool. Metabolically labile prodrugs can experience stark differences in catabolism incurred by the chosen route of administration. This is especially true for phosph(on)ate prodrugs, in which successive promoiety removal transforms a lipophilic molecule into increasingly polar compounds. We previously described a phosphonate inhibitor of enolase (HEX) and its bis-pivaloyloxymethyl ester prodrug (POMHEX) capable of eliciting strong tumor regression in a murine model of enolase 1 (ENO1)-deleted glioblastoma following parenteral administration. Here, we characterize the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of these enolase inhibitors in vitro and in vivo after oral and parenteral administration. Recent research started to apply concepts of well-being to the context of computer mediated communication (e.g., social media, instant messaging). While much research investigates negative perceptions of mediated social interactions (e.g., “problematic” or “addictive” social media use), a multi-dimensional measure that taps into users? positive perceptions is sorely lacking. The present research therefore develops the first comprehensive measure of digital flourishing, defined as positive perceptions of mediated social interactions. Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) was introduced to the profession of speech-language pathology in 2004. However, the limited empirical and implementation literature on EBP in speech-language pathology suggests that the field lags behind other healthcare disciplines, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. Additionally, the limited empirical literature on EBP in speech-language pathology identified a need to know how speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in healthcare 1) defined and described their use of EBP and 2) perceived barriers and facilitators to utilizing EBP in clinical practice.
