This paper examines how educational changes in school textbooks during a moment authoritarian rebuilding aim to politically demobilize students. This paper investigates how education is a sphere of influence for politics, and how authoritarian consolidation efforts manifest themselves in public and religious education. Focusing on the curricular and textbook changes in Egypt, and using secondary and primary sources the study traces the changing nationalist and religious narratives and how it aids in authoritarian rebuilding.

On October 16, 1943, the Jews of Rome were targeted for arrest and deportation. The Nazis, the Vatican, and the Jews of Rome examines why—and more importantly how—it could have been avoided, featuring new evidence and insight into the Vatican’s involvement. At the time, Rome was within reach of the Allies, but the overwhelming force of the Wehrmacht, Gestapo, and SS in Rome precluded direct confrontation. Moral condemnations would not have worked, nor would direct confrontation by the Italians, Jewish leadership, or even the Vatican.

Racist and brutal policing continues to pervade the criminal legal system. Black and brown people who interact with the police consistently face unequal targeting and treatment. Routine traffic stops are especially dangerous and harmful and can lead to death. Under Whren, a police officer’s racist motivations or implicit bias towards a driver do not influence the constitutionality of a traffic stop. An officer only needs to show there was probable cause to believe a traffic stop occurred. Although the unconstitutionality of pre-textual traffic stops has been widely explored since Whren, both federal and state courts have struggled to find legal …

This Article applies the concept of constitutional memory to the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to dispute the dominant view that the case was unique in erasing a constitutional right. It offers three examples—voting, Prohibition, and protective labor legislation—to illustrate how situating Dobbs within an expansive view of feminist legal history teaches us that it is not the only—just the most recent—example of the Court’s eroding or erasing previously recognized legal protections or rights that had a positive impact on women’s lives. Symposium: The Future Of Reproductive Rights: Foreign Law In Dobbs: The Need For A Principled Framework, Sital Kalantry

This article critiques the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization for its unprincipled and superficial use of foreign law sources to overturn Roe v. Wade. It explains the surprising use of foreign law by conservative justices who had previously opposed all use of non-US law in decision-making. And it shows how international and foreign law can be used on by either side to both expand and retrench rights. The article thus argues for a more principled framework for when and how to use international law sources including a more contextual analysis of that law.

Users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices often perform multi-step tasks involving transfer of key pieces of information from one application to another. The tedium of such routine, information-seeking tasks can create friction. Most people can recall a discussion or social situation in which their political views conflicted with those of other participants. A recent poll conducted of Ohioans by the Institute for Civics and Public Policy found that two-thirds of respondents reported they had strained personal relationships because of the political environment and nearly 8 in 10 agreed that the current political environment was as toxic as it had ever been in their lifetimes.

This study aimed to examine and compare the extent of burnout among health science faculty at a higher education institution and their self-reported perception of well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the study was cross-sectional, descriptive survey research. An electronic questionnaire was developed to measure the constructs of burnout and well-being. Validated instruments used in the survey included the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) and the World Health Organization-5 Well-being Index.
