A Comprehensive Review On Deep Learning-Based Generative Linguistic Steganography, Dr Khaled Nagaty, Israa Lotfy Lotfy, Abeer Hamdy Dr.

Computer Science

. The recent development of deep learning has made a significant breakthrough in linguistic generative steganography. The text has become one of the most intensely used communication carriers on the Internet, making steganography an efficient carrier for concealing secret messages. Text steganography has long been used to protect the privacy and confidentiality of data via public transmission. Steganography utilizes a carrier to embed the data to generate a secret unnoticed and less attractive message. Different techniques have been used to improve the security of the generated text and quality of the steganographic text, such as the Markov model, Recurrent Neural …

Workplace Violence Prevention Training: A Cross-Sectional Study Of Home Healthcare Workers, Tamara F. Small Mar 2023

Workplace Violence Prevention Training: A Cross-Sectional Study Of Home Healthcare Workers, Tamara F. Small

Dissertations

HHCWs are at increased risk for WPV due to working alone in unsupervised, unpredictable, and potentially dangerous work environments. Similar to healthcare workers employed in institutionalized settings, HHCWs primarily experience Type II, verbal abuse from patients. Little is known about how HHCWs promote personal safety while at work. Guided by Haddon's Matrix, the purpose of this manuscript option dissertation was to estimate WPV exposures and identify interventions and resources used by HHCWs to promote personal safety and mitigate and prevent WPV. For this manuscript option dissertation, there are three distinct projects, all related to HHCWs and exposure to WPV.

Relationship Between Horizontal Violence Among Registered Nurses And Falls, Elizabeth D. Rocha Mar 2023

Relationship Between Horizontal Violence Among Registered Nurses And Falls, Elizabeth D. Rocha

Dissertations

Horizontal violence is a manifestation of oppressed group behavior leading to low self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness among nurses. Horizontal violence leads to the creation of a hostile, unsafe work environment preventing nurses from performing at their highest potentials. A hostile work environment leads to a culture of unsafe patient care which may result in increased harm to patients. An understanding of why horizontal violence occurs and the implications of this phenomenon are the first steps in addressing this destructive behavior as well as protecting patients from harm. Health care environments must support nurses to perform at their best in …

Carbon Farming: A Preliminary Economic Analysis Of Carbon Credits For No-Till And Cover Crops, Drew Havens, Richard K. Perrin, Lilyan E. Fulginiti

Cornhusker Economics

Summary Based on experimental data about the amount of carbon sequestered and estimated implementation costs, our preliminary results show that the average cost of sequestering carbon via no-till (about $22 per ton of CO2e) appears to be much lower than the $51 per ton social value of sequestering that ton. In contrast, our preliminary results show that the average costs of sequestration via adoption of cover crops is much higher, about $60 per ton. Depending on how accurate soil carbon models are in predicting sequestration on individual fields to qualify them for enrollment, reimbursement costs for planting cover …

The Shadow Of Success: How International Criminal Law Has Come To Shape The Battlefield, Gabriella Blum Mar 2023

The Shadow Of Success: How International Criminal Law Has Come To Shape The Battlefield, Gabriella Blum

International Law Studies

The rise of international criminal law (ICL) has undoubtedly contributed to the development and enforcement of international humanitarian law (IHL). Yet, there are also important and oft-overlooked ways in which it has done the opposite. By labeling certain violations of the laws of war as “criminal” and setting up dedicated mechanisms for prosecution and punishment of offenders, the content, practice, and logic of ICL are displacing those of IHL. With its doctrinal precision, elaborate institutions, and the seemingly irresistible claim of political and moral priority, ICL is overshadowing the more diffuse, less institutionalized, and more difficult to enforce IHL.

But …

Modular Design Of A Polymer-Bilayer-Based Mechanically Compliant Worm-Like Robot, Austin S. Mills, Shane Riddle, Hillel J. J. Chiel, Roger D. Quinn, Kathryn A. Daltorio Mar 2023

Modular Design Of A Polymer-Bilayer-Based Mechanically Compliant Worm-Like Robot, Austin S. Mills, Shane Riddle, Hillel J. J. Chiel, Roger D. Quinn, Kathryn A. Daltorio

Faculty Scholarship

Soft earthworm-like robots that exhibit mechanical compliance can, in principle, navigate through uneven terrains and constricted spaces that are inaccessible to traditional legged and wheeled robots. However, unlike the biological originals that they mimic, most of the worm-like robots reported to date contain rigid components that limit their compliance, such as electromotors or pressure-driven actuation systems. Here, a mechanically compliant worm-like robot with a fully modular body that is based on soft polymers is reported. The robot is composed of strategically assembled, electrothermally activated polymer bilayer actuators, which are based on a semicrystalline polyurethane with an exceptionally large nonlinear thermal …

Small Rnas >26 Nt In Length Associate With Ago1 And Are Upregulated By Nutrient Deprivation In The Alga Chlamydomonas, Yingshan Li, Eun-Jeong Kim, Adam Voshall, Etsuko Moriyama, Heriberto D. Cerutti

School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

Small RNAs (sRNAs) associate with ARGONAUTE (AGO) proteins forming effector complexes with key roles in gene regulation and defense responses against molecular parasites. In multicellular eukaryotes, extensive duplication and diversification of RNA interference (RNAi) components have resulted in intricate pathways for epigenetic control of gene expression. The unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii also has a complex RNAi machinery, including 3 AGOs and 3 DICER-like proteins. However, little is known about the biogenesis and function of most endogenous sRNAs. We demonstrate here that Chlamydomonas contains uncommonly long (>26 nt) sRNAs that associate preferentially with AGO1. Somewhat reminiscent of animal PIWI-interacting RNAs, …

Microcystin-Lr Removal From Water Via Enzymatic Linearization And Ultrafiltration, Abelline Fionah, Cannon Hackett, Hazim Aljewari, Laura Brady, Faisal Alqhtani, Isabel C. Escobar, Audie K. Thompson

Chemistry Faculty Publications

Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) is a toxin produced by cyanobacteria that can bloom in freshwater supplies. This study describes a new strategy for remediation of MC-LR that combines linearization of the toxin using microcystinase A, MlrA, enzyme with rejection of linearized byproducts using membrane filtration. The MlrA enzyme was expressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli) and purified via a His-tag with 95% purity. Additionally, composite membranes made of 95% polysulfone and 5% sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) were fabricated and used to filter a solution containing cyclic and linearized MC-LR. Tests were also performed to measure the adsorption and desorption of MC-LR …

All UNH Survey Center Polls

A majority of New Hampshire residents approve of how President Joe Biden is handling the war in Ukraine, significantly higher than in the summer of 2022. A plurality expect the war in Ukraine to end with a compromise, while a quarter expect Ukraine to take back all of its territory. Although more than two-thirds of Granite Staters are worried about a direct confrontation between Russia and the U.S. in the near future, state residents consider China to be the greatest foreign threat to the United States by far.

Paper mill sludge (PMS) is a high-volume waste of the pulppapermaking industry, containing cellulose fibers. This paper introduces cellulose nanofibers extracted from PMS (CNFsPMS) and their application in paper coatings using a wire-wound coating method to enhance internal and optical properties of paper. Three factors were investigated: (i) CNFsPMS amount, (ii) number of layers, and (iii) surface treatment via a 4 × 2 × 2 factorial design. The experimental responses were tracked by fundamentally important internal properties including porosity, air permeability, thickness, roughness, and optical properties of brightness, gloss, and CIE L*a*b* color coordination. The results showed that CNFPMS enhances …

Research, Publications & Creative Work

Aging is accompanied by increased susceptibility to infections including with viral pathogens resulting in higher morbidity and mortality among the elderly. Significant changes in host metabolism can take place following virus infection. Efficient immune responses are energetically costly, and viruses divert host molecular resources to promote their own replication. Virus-induced metabolic reprogramming could impact infection outcomes, however, how this is affected by aging and impacts organismal survival remains poorly understood. RNA virus infection of Drosophila melanogaster with Flock House virus (FHV) is an effective model to study antiviral responses with age, where older flies die faster than younger flies due …

Clinician generated segmentation of tumor and healthy tissue regions of interest (ROIs) on medical images is crucial for radiotherapy. However, interobserver segmentation variability has long been considered a significant detriment to the implementation of high-quality and consistent radiotherapy dose delivery. This has prompted the increasing development of automated segmentation approaches. However, extant segmentation datasets typically only provide segmentations generated by a limited number of annotators with varying, and often unspecified, levels of expertise. In this data descriptor, numerous clinician annotators manually generated segmentations for ROIs on computed tomography images across a variety of cancer sites (breast, sarcoma, head and neck, …
