Omnipotence And The Psyche: On A New Psychoanalysis, Dani Park
Omnipotence And The Psyche: On A New Psychoanalysis, Dani Park
Theses and Dissertations
In the first chapter, I propose a new psychoanalytical framework in which the subject is driven by a need for omnipotence. Omnipotence, which is redefined in my framework, propels the subject to overcome the Father, or the awareness of self that arises due to psychological maturation and sophistication. I also introduce a psychological development that is defined by the entrance of the subject into different stages (Womb, Eden, Wandering), which are punctuated by events (In-the-Beginning, Fall, Death) which transition the subject into the next stage. Lastly, I introduce my own topographical model of the self in which the subject is …

Ops Bus Scheduling: A Heuristic Approach To A Three-Tier Multi-Depot Vehicle Routing Problem With Inter-Depot Routes, Jordan Sahs, Brad Tuttle
Mathematics Theses, Dissertations, Research and Student Creative Activity
Omaha Public Schools (OPS) currently uses a Two-Tier Bus Transportation System and is investigating whether switching to a Three-Tier Bus Transportation System would be cost effective by reducing the number of buses and bus drivers OPS uses. This project aims to develop an algorithm that would allow OPS to test whether a Three-Tier system is more cost effective. The “Bus Scheduling Project” is composed of two different software components: a geographical analyzer and a heuristic bus route generator.

To meet the challenges posed by the novel modes of interpersonal relationships of contemporary society, Canadian tort law must develop a general principle of liability for the intentional infliction of harm. This principle would recognize the normatively-significant common thread of the wrongdoer’s intention to cause harm to another person in phenomena as varied as doxing, swatting, revenge porn, cyberstalking, impersonation, trolling, and harassment. The recent development of discrete, context-specific torts in response to problematic social media conduct is an inherently limited approach to novel interpersonal conduct. However, it also offers an opportunity for the enunciation of a general principle of …
Comparison Of General Population Vs. U.S. Military Veterans Eating Disorder Prevalence, Micah Callahan
Comparison Of General Population Vs. U.S. Military Veterans Eating Disorder Prevalence, Micah Callahan
University Honors Theses
Eating disorders disrupt the psychological wellbeing, work ability and daily functioning of many individuals. There is currently no data to compare the prevalence of eating disorders in the general public compared to the military population. The hypothesis was that the military population would be significantly higher in prevalence compared to the general population within the general eating disorder, subcategories of eating disorders and between sex. To analyze the data collected from two studies, sixteen two-proportion Z tests were conducted to determine if the proportions of DSM-V eating disorders differed within and between sex for total incidence and sub-category incidence for …
Differentiating Between Urban Flood Risk As A Unitary Problem And As A Strand In A Braided Problem Set: Implications For Administrative Coordination, Sarah Michaels
Department of Political Science: Faculty Publications
Flood protection is a leading priority for urban water sustainability. Making cities more resilient to flooding has become urgent as the climate changes and as cities increasingly become the loci of human population and resources. Reducing the risk of future flooding in cities often necessitates different jurisdictions working together. They may do so because they confront a shared problem. This was the case in the City of Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, when partnering agencies shared a single focus on reducing flood risk from Beal Slough to the Nebraska State Penitentiary. In contrast, entities may band together to confront braided problems, intertwined …

Expression Of Rcrb Confers Resistance To Hypochlorous Acid In Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli, Mary Crompton
Theses and Dissertations
Neutrophils are the most prominent cell of the human innate immune system. Upon infection by bacteria, neutrophils are recruited to the site of infection where they target bacteria for degradation by phagocytosis. Neutrophils are effective bacterial killers through a high production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive chlorine species (RCS), which kill ingested microbes through damage to nucleic acids, lipids, and proteins. To prevent succumbing to the lethal effects of oxidative stress, pathogens such as Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), the primary causative agent of urinary tract infections (UTIs), have developed defense systems to combat ROS/RCS. We recently identified the …

Congenital absence of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is an extremely rare entity that occurs due to insult during the embryonic development of the ICA. Various intracranial collateral pathways develop to compensate for the ICA agenesis. Patients can present with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke-like symptoms, or other neurological symptoms due to compression of brain structures from enlarged collateral pathways/aneurysms. We present two cases of ICA agenesis along with an extensive review of the literature. A 67-year-old man presented with fluctuating right-sided hemiparesis and aphasia, found to have left ICA agenesis. The left middle cerebral artery (MCA) is supplied by the …

The rules of business have to be changed accordingly. It would be imperative that the chief executive officers of metropolitan corporations and large district councils are appointed from among Grade 21 and 22 officers of the Pakistan Administrative Service and the provincial executive services. After all, the chief secretaries of the provinces are at present selected from this pool of officers. There is no reason why officers of the same caliber and status should not be utilized at the local government level. We have to invert the pyramid of hierarchy between the three tiers of the government. The district governments …

Lateral flight membranes, or patagia, have evolved repeatedly in diverse mammalian lineages. While little is known about patagium development, its recurrent evolution may suggest a shared molecular basis. By combining transcriptomics, developmental experiments, and mouse transgenics, we demonstrate that lateral Wnt5a expression in the marsupial sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) promotes the differentiation of its patagium primordium. We further show that this function of Wnt5a reprises ancestral roles in skin morphogenesis predating mammalian flight and has been convergently used during patagium evolution in eutherian bats. Moreover, we find that many genes involved in limb development have been redeployed during …
Hybrid Statistical And Machine Learning Methods For Daily Evapotranspiration Modeling, Erdem Kucuktopcu
Hybrid Statistical And Machine Learning Methods For Daily Evapotranspiration Modeling, Erdem Kucuktopcu
Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund
Machine learning (ML) models, including artificial neural networks (ANN), generalized neural regression networks (GRNN), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface systems (ANFIS), have received considerable attention for their ability to provide accurate predictions in various problem domains. However, these models may produce inconsistent results when solving linear problems. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes hybridizations of ML and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models to provide a more accurate and general forecasting model for evapotranspiration (ET0). The proposed models are developed and tested using daily ET0 data collected over 11 years (2010–2020) in the Samsun province of Türkiye. The results show …

Comparing Multiple Sclerosis Age Of Onset In American American And European Cohorts Via Polygenic Risk Scores, Amy Arabel Hernandez
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Health disparities have been observed in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), which show that non–Hispanic black patients with MS die at an earlier age and have an increasing mortality trend compared to white MS patients.3 New genetic information shows promising results to treat genetic diseases. For example, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are being used to calculate polygenic risk scores (PRS) which are a method used to understand disease risk. However, current PRS have been developed using GWAS that overrepresent individuals of European ancestry,4 showing that they do not equally apply to all individuals. We set out …

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
The second of April marks World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), every year globally. WAAD was designated by the United Nations in 2007 to help end stigmatization and discrimination against those with Autism and their caregivers. It aims to raise understanding and awareness of this global health issue at all levels of society. The alarming increase in prevalence (1 in 100-WHO) and potentially lifelong disabling nature of the disorder demands awareness as early identification and intervention are pivotal in the management of Autism.
Screening For Social Determinants Of Health In The Primary Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Project, Winifred Ann Shouse
Screening For Social Determinants Of Health In The Primary Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Project, Winifred Ann Shouse
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Social determinants of health are the conditions in which individuals are born, age, work, and live that affect health status and outcomes (Rivich et al., 2019). These social and environmental factors can create barriers to patients being able to access and adhere to recommendations for chronic disease management (Gold, et al., 2019). Communication gaps between patients and primary care providers make it challenging for healthcare providers to be completely aware of the financial burdens their patients encounter (Patel et al., 2016). Research supports that identifying and addressing the barriers related to social determinants of health can improve the management of …
