Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Faculty Publications
Rehabilitation counselor educators (RCEs) in programs accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) are mandated to assess student professional dispositions as part of the gatekeeping process. This study utilized the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to explore the factors that influence RCE dispositional gatekeeping behaviors. The study includes a sample of 52 RCEs across the United States. Results obtained using a multiple linear regression model indicate that participants generally have positive attitudes toward their role as dispositional gatekeepers and their behaviors. As hypothesized by TPB, both beliefs and perceived norms relating to dispositional gatekeeping …

Protocol To Identify The Core Gene Supported By An Essential Gene In E. Coli Bacteria Using A Genome-Wide Suppressor Screen, Isao Masuda, Ya-Ming Hou
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty Papers
We describe here a genome-wide screening approach to identify the most critical core reaction among a network of many that are supported by an essential gene to establish cell viability. We describe steps for maintenance plasmid construction, knockout cell construction, and phenotype validation. We then detail isolation of suppressors, whole-genome sequencing analysis, and reconstruction of CRISPR mutants. We focus on E. coli trmD, which encodes an essential methyl transferase that synthesizes m1G37 on the 3'-side of the tRNA anticodon. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Masuda et al. (2022).

Gene expression profiling is one of the most recognized techniques for inferring gene regulators and their potential targets in gene regulatory networks (GRN). The purpose of this study is to build a regulatory network for the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome by incorporating the use of RNA-seq and microarray data represented by a wide range of experimental conditions. We introduce a pipeline for data analysis, data preparation, and training models. Several kernel classification models; including one-class, two-class, and rare event classification methods, are used to categorize genes. We test the impact of the normalization techniques on the overall performance of …

Evaluation Factors Of Solar Power Plants To Reduce Cost Under Neutrosophic Multi-Criteria Decision Making Model, Mohamed Abouhawwash, Mohammed Jameel
Sustainable Machine Intelligence Journal
Solar power facilities must be efficient, reliable, and sustainable to meet energy demands. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of criteria for evaluating solar power installations, focusing on factors impacting performance, economic viability, and environmental sustainability. Drawing from extensive literature, industry practices, and case studies, we identify key considerations such as technological feasibility, economic viability, environmental impact, legal frameworks, and social acceptance. To address the complexity and uncertainty associated with these criteria, we employ a multi-criteria decision-making approach. Specifically, the CRiteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (CRITIC) method is utilized to determine the weights of criteria, while the neutrosophic set theory …

BACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma of the anus (SCCA) is a rare gastrointestinal cancer. Factors associated with progression of HPV infection to anal dysplasia and cancer are unclear and screening guidelines and approaches for anal dysplasia are less clear than for cervical dysplasia. One potential contributing factor is the anorectal microbiome. In this study, we aimed to identify differences in anal microbiome composition in the settings of HPV infection, anal dysplasia, and anal cancer in this rare disease.
METHODS: Patients were enrolled in two prospective studies. Patients with anal dysplasia were part of a cross-sectional cohort that enrolled women with high-grade …

For |q|<1 >, define fi=∏∞n=1(1−qin) , and let (A(q),B(q)) be any of the pairs (f41,f81f22), (f41,f101f23), (f61,f42f21), (f61,f141f42), (f101,f62f21), (f141,f53f1),(f141,f82f21). For any such pair (A(q),B(q)) , define the sequences {a(n)} and {b(n)} to be the coefficients of qn of A(q) and B(q) , respectively. Then for each pair it is shown that a(n) vanishes if and only if b(n) vanishes. In each case, a criterion is given which states precisely when a(n)=b(n)=0 . Moreover, for the pairs (f261,f93f1) , (f261,f162f61) it is shown that a(n)=b(n)=0 if 12n+13 satisfies a criteria of Serre for a(n)=0 .
Organizations Ensuring Resilience: A Case Study Of Cortez, Florida, Karla Ariel Maddox
Organizations Ensuring Resilience: A Case Study Of Cortez, Florida, Karla Ariel Maddox
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
“Resilience” has often been defined by examining case studies in resilience failures. In contrast, this case study utilizes the oldest, still functional fishing village in Cortez, Florida to rhetorically analyze how organizational communicative practices have worked to ensure its resilience. Situating this conversation within Rhetoric proves valuable since so many attempts to define and utilize “resilience” seek to capitalize on its positive connotation but distort resilience definitions and practice. This dissertation explores three research questions: 1. “What systems and/or structures made our continued existence possible and what ideologies or goals drove their creation?” 2. “What ideologies, perceptions, and/or goals inspired …

We report on the population properties of compact binary mergers inferred from gravitational-wave observations of these systems during the first three LIGO-Virgo observing runs. The Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalog 3 (GWTC-3) contains signals consistent with three classes of binary mergers: binary black hole, binary neutron star, and neutron star–black hole mergers. We infer the binary neutron star merger rate to be between 10 and 1700 Gpc−3 yr−1 and the neutron star–black hole merger rate to be between 7.8 and 140 Gpc−3 yr−1, assuming a constant rate density in the comoving frame and taking the union of 90% credible intervals for methods …

Students' Understanding Of Self-Management In Aphasia Treatment, Maryse Azer
Students' Understanding Of Self-Management In Aphasia Treatment, Maryse Azer
Honors College Theses
Aphasia is a neurogenic language disorder caused by damage to the language areas of the brain in the left hemisphere, resulting in speech and language impairments. People with aphasia (PWA) often receive services from speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who provide screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to address communication deficits. Aphasia is a chronic condition and PWA experience symptoms throughout their lives. Healthcare costs related to aphasia account for $46 billion annually. Provider shortages, lack of transportation, insurance constraints, and travel expenses can leave PWA without adequate care. One possible solution to the costs and access issues is the implementation of self-management …
Payment Card (Pci Dss) Policy
Business & Finance Policies
To accept credit card payments, Georgia Southern University (University) must prove and maintain compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). The University Payment Card Policy and additional supporting documents provide the requirements for processing, transmission, storage, and disposal of cardholder data transactions. Improving Outcomes Through Patient Empowerment At Transition Of Care: A Fall Prevention Program For Stroke Survivors, Tiffany M. Hoke
Improving Outcomes Through Patient Empowerment At Transition Of Care: A Fall Prevention Program For Stroke Survivors, Tiffany M. Hoke
Dissertations
Stroke survivors fall 7 times more annually than same-aged healthy adults; and most fall within the first 2 to 6 months post stroke after transition of care home from the acute setting. These falls cause hip fractures and other bodily injury, further compounding post-stroke mobility, fear of falling, social isolation, and social dependence while collectively yielding poorer outcomes at greater financial burden.
To date, no fall prevention program has targeted stroke survivors as they prepare for transition of care home from the acute setting.
The purpose of this practice inquiry is to develop an evidence-based fall prevention program aimed at …

The 2020-21 eruption of La Soufrière, St Vincent began with extrusion of a viscous lava dome, which was destroyed upon transition to a major explosive phase. Here we present petrological data to reconstruct the processes leading up to these events. Bulk-rock SiO2 contents range from 52.8 to 55.4 wt. %, classifying the lava and the subsequent scoria as basaltic andesite, the latter being slightly more mafic. Macrocrystal chemistry and modes (plag-cpx-opx-tmt-ol) and crystallinity (45–50 vol. %) are largely identical for both phases of the eruption. Pyroxenes are homogenous and precipitated mostly from andesitic melts. Conversely, plagioclase shows strong normal zonation …

Effect Of The Dynamic Froude–Krylov Force On Energy Extraction From A Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter With An Hourglass-Shaped Buoy, Houssein Yassin, Tania Demonte Gonzalez, Gordon Parker, David Wilson
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
Point absorber wave energy converter (WEC) control strategies often require accurate models for maximum energy extraction. While linear models are suitable for small motions, the focus is on the nonlinear model of an hour-glass shaped buoy undergoing large vertical displacements. Closed-form expressions for the static and dynamic Froude–Krylov forces are developed. It is shown that, in general, the dynamic and static forces are of similar magnitude, which is not the case for a spherical buoy. While the dynamic force reduces the amplitude of the net buoy force, its shape predicts a larger buoy response than if neglected, causing the nonlinear …

Introduction and objectives: The opioid overdose epidemic is exacerbated by the emergence of Xylazine as an illicit drug adulterant. Xylazine, a veterinary sedative, can potentiate opioid effects while also causing toxic and potentially fatal side effects. This systematic review aims to assess the impact of Xylazine use and overdoses within the opioid epidemic context.
Method: A systematic search was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to identify relevant case reports, and case series related to Xylazine use. A comprehensive literature search included databases like Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar, utilizing keywords and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms related to …
