Diagnostic Gold Deportment Studies And Leaching Behaviour Of Small-Scale Gold Mining Tailings From Eastern Region, Ghana, Ishmael Quaicoe, Martin Beyuo, Solomon Quaicoe, Nikao A. Lasidzi

Journal of Sustainable Mining

Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector employs about 80% of the mining workforce but only contributes about 20-30% of Ghana’s gold production. The low gold production is linked to low recoveries associated with the activities because ofinadequate understanding of the chemical, mineralogical and metallurgical characteristics of the ores. This study examined the metallurgical characteristics of typical small-scale gold mining tailings to understand their grinding characteristics, gold deportment and cyanidation behaviour. The gold deportment results showed that 96.1% of the gold in the samples is free milling (can be leached directly with cyanide and recovered through carbon adsorption), whilst the …

Productivity Of Sahiwal And Friesian–Sahiwal Crossbreds In Marginal Grasslands Of Kenya, W. B. Muhuyi, F. B. Lukibisi, S. N. Ole Sinkeet

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Dual-purpose cattle can be used to exploit the production potential of semi-arid grasslands of Kenya for milk and meat production. Although the Sahiwal is adapted to these grasslands, its productivity is low. In order to increase milk and meat productivity, the Sahiwal has been crossed with the Friesian to produce Friesian-Sahiwal crossbreds (McDowell et al., 1996) adapted to the tropical environment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the productivity of Sahiwal and Friesian-Sahiwal crossbreds.

The Influence Of Harvest Period And Fertilisation On The Yield Of Some Mixed Grass And Leguminous Species Under The Forest Steppe Conditions Of North-East Romania, V. Vintu, C. Samuil, T. Iacob, St. Postolache

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

In the forest steppe area of North-east Romania, temporary grasslands represent an important source of high quality fodder but they have a short period of exploitation, associated with some changes in the floristic composition (Vintu, 2003). Fertiliser application and harvest period have an important role in maintaining high productivity (Hopkins, 1991). The aim of this paper is to determine the influence of harvest period and fertilization on the yield of some grass and leguminous species in the forest steppe conditions of North-east Romania.

Yield And Mineral Concentration Changes In Maize And Italian Ryegrass Cropping Systems, Sachiko Idota, Yasuyuki Ishii Mar 2023

Yield And Mineral Concentration Changes In Maize And Italian Ryegrass Cropping Systems, Sachiko Idota, Yasuyuki Ishii

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Mineral balance between plants and soil to which fertilizer has been applied is important in sustainable agriculture. Cropping systems are chosen based on considerations of crop yield, soil physical and chemical properties and climatic conditions. Thus, the sustainability of a forage cropping system should only be assessed after continuous cultivation has been practiced for several years. Forage crop production is employed in the rice paddies of Japan during summer. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the yield and mineral concentration of forage crops cultivated in hard-textured soils for 4 years.

A Research-Based Approach For Teaching Written Apologies To English For Academic Purposes Learners, Lisa Leopold Mar 2023

A Research-Based Approach For Teaching Written Apologies To English For Academic Purposes Learners, Lisa Leopold

MITESOL Journal: An Online Publication of MITESOL

This article describes a research-based approach for teaching written personal, corporate, and public apologies to advanced English language learners. Following an explicit-inductive approach, the proposed lessons incorporate authentic input, metapragmatic explanation, noticing activities, corpus-based exercises, and empirically based research findings, all of which have been shown to enhance learners’ sociopragmatic and pragmalinguistic competence. Learners apply research findings to analyze authentic apologies, revise them for greater sincerity, and use a corpus to expand the range of expressions for apologizing. The pedagogical activities expand the scope of written pragmatics instruction which has been relatively under-represented in the field of pragmatics.

Orienting Patients To Their Own Care: Implementing Goals And Progress On Whiteboards, Grace Beer, Leah Mcgough

Scholars Week

Introduction: Goal-setting within the hospital setting can be a useful tool for health care professionals. By using a white board in a patient’s room, nurses can work with patients to create goals in their plan of care. Implementing daily goals on these boards can improve patient satisfaction, increase nurse-patient communication, and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Methods: We researched scholarly articles that discuss the use of goal-setting in clinical practice. These articles engage in the idea that patients visually seeing their goals helps them stay focused and motivated in their health care. The researchers used methods such as interviews, focus …

Implementation Of An Artificial Airway Communication Tool, Grace Thacker, Macy Damron

Scholars Week

This evidence based practice research project evaluated the use of communication tools for patients with artificial airways in the hospital setting. It was determined through clinical experiences and article research that no standard communication tool has been recommended for this patient population. Moreover, research has suggested that patient satisfaction has improved with the use of new communication methods. Given the lack of a solution to this issue, we have suggested the implementation of a new hospital policy concerning the use of a communication tool. This communication tool is an eight and a half by eleven laminated piece of paper that …

The Benefits Of Using Patient Transfer Devices In The Emergency Department, Abby Lawhorn, Mikaylen Dearmond Mar 2023

The Benefits Of Using Patient Transfer Devices In The Emergency Department, Abby Lawhorn, Mikaylen Dearmond

Scholars Week

The Emergency Department (ED) is known as one of the most fast-paced environments in which nurses work. Because of the nature of their responsibilities and daily tasks, ED nurses are at high risk of injury. One of those tasks that occur multiple times throughout the day is patient transfers. The Emergency Department staff is constantly moving patients in and out of the unit. Most often, patients seen in the ED are weak, in pain, elderly, or unable to transfer from vehicles, ambulance, stretchers, or wheelchairs independently or without minimal assistance. Our research focuses on the benefits of using assistive devices …

Why Bladder Training Prior To Foley Catheter Removal Is Not Best Practice, Emily Winstead, Sydny Tucker Mar 2023

Why Bladder Training Prior To Foley Catheter Removal Is Not Best Practice, Emily Winstead, Sydny Tucker

Scholars Week

Several studies have been completed on bladder training prior to foley catheter removal via intermittent clamping. While this practice initially appears to be beneficial to patient care, the studies we have researched all found the practice to be insignificant or not indicated for patient care. As we researched, we were able to compile evidence from multiple sources that support bladder training prior to catheter removal is not best practice. After compiling those results, we were able to gather a better understanding of the reasons this practice is not indicated and what risks it will pose to patients. In conclusion, we …

The Positive Effects Of Delayed Immersion Bathing For Newborns, Aubrey Stuart Mar 2023

The Positive Effects Of Delayed Immersion Bathing For Newborns, Aubrey Stuart

The Benefits And Use Of Intranasal Versed (Midazolam) In Pediatric Patients Requiring Procedural Sedation And Seizure Cessation In The Emergency Department, Coleman Austin, Madison Simmons

Scholars Week

Pediatric emergency department’s across the country have developed specific methods for treating injuries and illnesses in the pediatric population. However, many adult emergency departments that treat pediatric patients have outdated methods for treating children who come through their doors. A great example of this would be the current standard of care for pediatric patients who are in need of some form of sedation for treatment. Many adult emergency departments currently will use moderate to deep sedation techniques for treatment that should typically only require light sedation, like for lacerations and imaging scans. After lots of research, it seems that where …

When it comes to learning in a classroom, teachers always expect students to just sit and listen. However, there are ways to be able to teach students while being active through play and other activities. When you have little kids in your classroom, sure you want them to sit and learn, but there are times when you need to have them move around and play. That is because since they are so little, their attention span is not that long.

Exploring The Connection Between Literature And Physical Education, Andrew Potts

Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference

In many school settings, physical education and literature are thought to not be connected in any way. However, it can be argued that there is indeed a connection between these two seemingly unrelated subjects. Making a concerted effort to include physical movement and learning within core classroom subjects, including literacy, can help students understand that different areas of learning can be introduced and intertwined in other subjects to create a more wholesome and well-rounded learning experience for them.

Strategies For Teaching Reading In High School Music Classes, Megan Case

Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference

When you think of subjects that benefit from literacy, music may not be the first one that comes to mind. While "reading" music usually refers to interpreting the notes and symbols on the page being able to read texts about music can give students context and background they wouldn't otherwise have. This enables them to connect to the music on a deeper and more meaningful level. This project describes just a few of the ways increasing literacy in the field of music enhances the quality of education students receive
