Semi-Analytic Approach To Solving Rosenau-Hyman And Korteweg-De Vries Equations Using Integral Transform, Adedapo Chis Loyinmi, Kabir Oluwatobi Idowu
Tanzania Journal of Science
In this research, we proposed the fusing of Elzaki transform and projected differential transform (PDTM) to obtain an analytical or approximate solution of the Rosenau-Hyman and Korteweg-de Vries equations which respectively govern pattern formation in liquid drops and model of waves on shallow water surfaces. The results obtained presented in tables and graphs showed better efficiency, accuracy, and convergence of the method to handle Rosenau-Hyman and Korteweg-de Vries equations when compared to other methods in the literature. Keywords: Rosenau-Hyman Equation; Korteweg-de Vries equation; Elzaki Projected differential transform method; Semi-analytic approach

Evidence Of Distinct Genetic Stocks Of The Bottlenose Wedgefish (Rhynchobatus Australiae) In The Indo-West Pacific, Rehema J. Simwanza, Cyrus Rumisha
Tanzania Journal of Science
Populations of the bottlenose wedgefish (Rhynchobatus australiae) in the Indo-West Pacific (IWP) have declined by nearly 80% in recent decades. In response, IWP countries are establishing sanctuaries to provide refuge for the fish. However, little is known about the genetic stock structure of the fish in the region. Hence, this study analysed partial sequences (610 base pairs) of the cytochrome oxidase subunit (COI) gene from eight bottlenose wedgefish populations in the IWP to assess the genetic stock structure of the fishery. The sequences revealed that Western Indian Ocean (WIO) populations are genetically distinct from those in the West Pacific (WP) …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
The development of electron cryomicroscopy (cryo-EM) has evolved immensely in the last several decades and is now well-established in the analysis of protein structure both in isolation and in their cellular context. This review focuses on the history and application of cryo-EM to the analysis of membrane architecture. Parallels between the levels of organization of protein structure are useful in organizing the discussion of the unique parameters that influence the collective behavior that influences membrane structure and function. Importantly, the timescales of lipid motion in bilayers with respect to the timescales of sample vitrification is discussed and reveals what types …

Electrical Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this paper, an optimized memristor emulator circuit is designed, by using nine MOSFET transistors and a ground capacitor. Our area- and power-optimized emulator circuit can be used for basic data storage and processing at the monitoring edge, in real-time applications. The memristor shows a nonlinear voltage–current relationship, but no multiplier circuit provides the memristor's nonlinear characteristics. As a result, the proposed memristor emulator has a very low chip area. The memristor circuit is designed in LTSpice, using 16 nm and 45 nm CMOS technology parameters, and the operating voltage is ±0.9 V. In this research, the theoretical derivations are …

Tuning Of Passivity-Based Controllers For Mechanical Systems, Carmen Chan-Zheng, Pablo Borja, Jacquelien M.A. Scherpen
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
This article describes several approaches for tuning the parameters of a class of passivity-based controllers for standard nonlinear mechanical systems. In particular, we are interested in tuning controllers that preserve the mechanical system structure in the closed loop. To this end, first, we provide tuning rules for stabilization, i.e., the rate of convergence (exponential stability) and stability margin (input-to-state stability). Then, we provide guidelines to remove the overshoot. In addition, we propose a methodology to tune the gyroscopic-related parameters. We also provide remarks on the damping phenomenon to facilitate the practical implementation of our approaches. We conclude this article with …

Adsorption Of Water Vapour On The Microstructure And Stability Of Cu-Zn Bimetallic Coordination Polymer, Bukunola K. Oguntade, Gareth M. Watkins
Tanzania Journal of Science
A current challenge in the design of synthesis lies in the incorporation of two or more transition metals into a coordination polymer. The most widely used approach has been to incorporate a second metal as a generally innocent (coordinatively saturated) part of a linear linker as in the case of multifunctional carboxylated porphyrins (MCPs). The empirical method has been used to obtain many other types of MCPs; however, the selective, direct replacement of one transition metal within a monometallic coordination polymer via controlled stoichiometry has not generally led to maintained structural fidelity. In this present work, three pyromellitic acid complexes …

Cities cannot adopt supposedly smart technological systems and protect human rights without developing appropriate data governance, because technologies are not value-neutral. This paper proposes a deliberative, slow-governance approach to smart tech in cities. Inspired by the Governing Knowledge Commons (GKC) framework and past case studies, we empirically analyse the adoption of smart intersection technologies in four US college towns to evaluate and extend knowledge commons governance approaches to address human rights concerns. Our proposal consists of a set of questions that should guide community decision-making, extending the GKC framework via an incorporation of human-rights impact assessments and a consideration of …

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive, inflammatory, autoimmune, symmetrical polyarticular arthritis. It is characterized by synovial infiltration and activation of several types of immune cells, culminating in their apoptosis and antibody generation against "altered" autoantigens. β2-microglobulin (β2m)-associated heavy chains (HCs) of HLA antigens, also known as closed conformers (Face-1), undergo "alteration" during activation of immune cells, resulting in β2m-free structural variants, including monomeric open conformers (Face-2) that are capable of dimerizing as either homodimers (Face-3) or as heterodimers (Face-4). β2m-free HCs uncover the cryptic epitopes that can elicit antibodies (Abs). We report here the levels of IgM and IgG Abs …

Distinct lines of research in both humans and animals point to a specific role of the hippocampus in both spatial and episodic memory function. The discovery of concept cells in the hippocampus and surrounding medial temporal lobe (MTL) regions suggests that the MTL maps physical and semantic spaces with a similar neural architecture. Here, we studied the emergence of such maps using MTL microwire recordings from 20 patients (9 female, 11 male) navigating a virtual environment featuring salient landmarks with established semantic meaning. We present several key findings. The array of local field potentials in the MTL contains sufficient information …

The Covid-19 crisis that began in 2020 brought to light many societal issues as people had time to sit and reflect. One of these issues is the systemic injustices against African Americans, which were highlighted after the death of George Floyd. This event re-ignited the Black Lives Matter movement amongst U.S. citizens of all races and within corporations. While some companies pledged to donate to various Black causes, others opted to empower Black businesses economically by supporting the Buy-Black Movement. One of the ways they are accomplishing this goal is by adding a Black-owned label to products and businesses. While …

Consider a nonautonomous nonlinear evolution $\dot{x}=f(x,t,\mu)$, where the vector $x(t) \in \mathbb{R}^n$ represents the state of the dynamical system at time $t$, $\mu$ contains system parameters, and $f(\cdot)$ represents a dynamic constraint. In most practical applications, the nonlinear dynamic constraint $f$ is unknown analytically. The problem of approximating $f$ directly from data measurements generated by the system is a main goal of this manuscript. In the postulates of the Nonlinear Autoregressive (NAR) framework, we show that the problem of approximating $f$ can be studied through symbols of densely defined multiplication operators over a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHS). In this …
