The Asymmetric Relationship Between Macroeconomic Determinants And Non-Performing Loans: Evidence From The Banking Industry Of Indonesia, Faaza Fakhrunnas, Rindang Nuri Isnaini Nugrohowati, Razali Haron, Mb Hendrie Anto
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) represent a risk that can significantly affect the financial performance of banks. This study aims to examine the macroeconomic determinants of NPLs in the Indonesian banking industry from 2005Q1 to 2019Q4. It adopts a novel approach, namely the nonlinear autoregressive distributed model and provides evidence that changes in macroeconomic conditions have an asymmetrical effect on NPLs in conventional banks, conventional rural banks, Islamic banks, and Islamic rural banks. In addition, Islamic banks have greater asymmetrical exposure to macroeconomic variables than their counterparts.

Reviving Agricultural Growth : Part – I, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Newspaper and Magazine Articles
Agriculture forms the backbone of Pakistan’s economy as it provides livelihoods to almost two-thirds of the population, food, water, energy security to the country, and three-fourth of export earnings. The industrial and services sectors are dependent upon it for their sustenance. However, a country endowed with one of the largest contiguous irrigated areas (43 m acres) and vast reservoir of underground water in the world cultivating about 21 million hectares of land has not only been able to fully exploit this rich potential but in fact is facing stagnation over the last two decades. Estimates show that the value of …

Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare, aggressive mesenchymal tumor with smooth muscle differentiation. LMS is one of the most common histologic subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma; it most frequently occurs in the extremities, retroperitoneum, or uterus. LMS often demonstrates aggressive tumor biology, with a higher risk of developing distant metastatic disease than most sarcoma histologic types. The prognosis is poor, particularly in patients with uterine disease, and there is a need for the development of more effective therapies. Genetically, LMS is karyotypically complex and characterized by a low tumor mutational burden, with frequent alterations in TP53, RB1, PTEN, …

Review On Pour Point Depressants For Waxy Crude Oil Issues, Nurul Nizzam Zamri, Hazlina Husin
Review On Pour Point Depressants For Waxy Crude Oil Issues, Nurul Nizzam Zamri, Hazlina Husin
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
Crude oil contains heavy paraffin molecules that cause the deposition of solid wax. Wax deposition is a critical problem in the petroleum industry, which results in various production problems. Pour Point Depressant (PPD) is a chemical additive that prevents wax deposition. PPD is employed to lower the pour point temperature allowing crude oil to flow at a significantly lower temperature. Several types of PPD include polymer, nano-composite and a natural organic compound. This review paper provides insights regarding different types of chemical additives to solve waxy crude oil issues. The effectiveness of these chemical additives is compared based on the …

Corrosion Behavior Of Ss304 In Hydrogen Chloridecontaining Environments, Ahmad Zaki Abas, Azmi Mohammed Nor, Muhammad Firdaus Suhor, Nik M Radi Nik M Daud
Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)
The corrosion behaviour of stainless steel SS304 was investigated in three major aqueous environments, namely dry, water-saturated and free-water conditions and in two different methanol environments, namely dry and water-saturated environments with 99% methanol +1% water. The sulfuric acid and sodium chloride reaction generated hydrogen chloride gas in all the experiments. An inert carrier gas such as argon pushed the hydrogen chloride gas to flow over desiccants to make the latter dry. The dry hydrogen chloride gas would then flow into the second flask to which a pre-weighted stainless-steel specimen was exposed at ambient conditions for 48 hours. The specimen …

Risk Appetite And Foreign Exchange Intervention In An Inflation-Targeting Framework: The Case Of Indonesia, Alexander Lubis, Constantinos Alexiou, Joseph G. Nellis
Risk Appetite And Foreign Exchange Intervention In An Inflation-Targeting Framework: The Case Of Indonesia, Alexander Lubis, Constantinos Alexiou, Joseph G. Nellis
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The use of foreign exchange intervention in an inflation-targeting framework raises the question regarding its role. In addition, in an environment of volatile capital flows, how the risk appetite of foreign investors might impact the economy is worth exploring. This paper examines these issues for Indonesia by developing and estimating a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model. This study finds that the foreign exchange intervention affects the macroeconomic variables through the portfolio channel. The risk appetite also affects the economy by increasing the price of capital. The foreign exchange intervention helps in stabilizing the economy during the presence of risk appetite …
Interlinkage Of Macroeconomic Uncertainty And Macroeconomic Performance: Evidence From Asean-5 Countries Panel Var, Rifai Afin
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper examines the interrelationship between inflation, inflation uncertainty, growth, and growth uncertainty. We find a negative effect of output uncertainty on output growth and a positive effect of output growth on output uncertainty. Inflation uncertainty has a negative effect on the inflation rate, suggesting that there is a stabilizing motive during high periods of high inflation, where the policy lowers inflation uncertainty to minimize the economic welfare costs of deflationary actions. However, inflation has a positive effect on inflation uncertainty suggesting that agents may devote more resources to inflation forecasting in a rising inflation environment, which reduces uncertainty. We …
Efficiency, Productivity, And Openness: Empirical Evidence From Asean Plus Three Economies, Mohammad Zeqi Yasin
Efficiency, Productivity, And Openness: Empirical Evidence From Asean Plus Three Economies, Mohammad Zeqi Yasin
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper investigates the impact of openness variables, i.e., Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), exports, and imports, on productivity and efficiency. By employing annual data from the 13 countries from 2001 to 2018, this study confirms that openness variables affect countries’ productivity and efficiency. Productivity will improve when FDI interacts with human capital and intra- and inter-region exports, as well as when inter-region imports interact with human capital. Meanwhile, efficiency will enhance along with the enhancement of FDI, human capital, and intra-region imports. This study emphasises the importance of minimising underutilised capital and optimising production cost and managerial expertise
Bonds And Sukuk Markets Under Covid-19: An Empirical Study Of Emerging Markets, Nevi Danila
Bonds And Sukuk Markets Under Covid-19: An Empirical Study Of Emerging Markets, Nevi Danila
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the bonds and sukuk market index is investigated to determine the dynamic behavior of fixed-income return volatility. Our results suggest that COVID-19 does not influence bond and sukuk market volatility in most of our samples. Furthermore, market sentiment does not exist in the fixed income market. The dominance of long-term investors in the fixed-income market could be the cause, especially given the minor impact of the pandemic on market volatility. In erms of risk, sukuk is less risky than its counterpart, and no statistical difference is found in risk before and during the …
Forecasting Exchange Rate Volatility In India Under Univariate And Multivariate Analysis, Sushil Kumar Rai, Akhilesh Kumar Sharma
Forecasting Exchange Rate Volatility In India Under Univariate And Multivariate Analysis, Sushil Kumar Rai, Akhilesh Kumar Sharma
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This paper addresses the issue of variation in the exchange rate of the Indian Rupee (IR) against the US Dollar (USD) under a flexible exchange rate regime using monthly data spanning January 2005 to December 2020. We find that exchange rate volatility is largely affected by its lag value rather than the inflation rate and the interest rate differential. The results of forecast accuracy suggest that the prediction performance of the ARIMA model is better than the VAR model. We also find that apart from other factors, the sharp changes in the exchange rate should be controlled by the economy …

The Horus and other research teams have found that atherosclerosis is not uncommon in ancient people through the study of their mummified remains (Murphy et al., 2003; Allam et al., 2009, 2011; Thompson et al., 2013, 2014). However, some have postulated that traditional hunter-gatherers are in some ways healthier than modern people and that they had very little atherosclerotic disease (O’Keefe et al., 2010). The aim of this study was to evaluate the burden of atherosclerosis in a population alive today but living a traditional lifestyle similar to that experienced by past populations. This led to the Tsimane Health and …
Exploring Time-Varying Extraneous Variables Effects In Single-Case Studies, Ke Cheng
Exploring Time-Varying Extraneous Variables Effects In Single-Case Studies, Ke Cheng
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The effect of time-varying extraneous variables has been studied in other statistical analyses such as using Kaplan–Meier or Cox regression analysis in survival analyses. Nonetheless, the effect of modeling versus not modeling individual specific time varying extraneous variables has not been explored in multiple-baseline single case designs through Monte Carlo simulation studies. Therefore, in my dissertation, I used simulation methods to explore for a variety of conditions (varying in the number of participants, number of observations per participant, type of extraneous variable effect, size of the true intervention effect) the impact of extraneous variables on bias and standard error of …
Proud And Mischievous Designs: Elizabethan Propaganda Of The Dutch Revolt, Michael Swierczynski
Proud And Mischievous Designs: Elizabethan Propaganda Of The Dutch Revolt, Michael Swierczynski
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In the late sixteenth century, England’s political culture was engaged in a heated debate over that kingdom’s participation in the Dutch Revolt. Across the Channel, predominantly Protestant Dutch rebels had risen up in revolt against their Catholic overlord, King Philip II of Spain. The English people, linked to the Dutch by longstanding cultural, economic, and religious ties, largely sympathized with the rebels. Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester and, after his death, his stepson, Robert Deveraux, Earl of Essex, sponsored extensive campaigns of print propaganda to influence their fellow subjects to support an active English military intervention in the Revolt. They …

Standing Her Ground: Legal Constraints On Women Who Have Been Victims Of Violence, Janae E. Thomas
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Women who have been the victim of violence have always been at a disadvantage under the laws in the United States because these laws stem from a patriarchal, sexist, heteronormative, and racist ideology under which this country was founded. Self- defense laws have shown to be no different and serve as a constraint to women who attempt to protect themselves at the hands of an abuser. This dissertation focuses on women who have been the victim of violence at the hands of an abuser to show that the law is not doing an adequate job of protecting them. It accomplishes …
Matrix Models Of 2d Critical Phenomena, Nathan Hayford
Matrix Models Of 2d Critical Phenomena, Nathan Hayford
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The 2D Ising model has played an important role in the theory of phase transitions, as one of only ahandful of exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics. The original model, introduced in the 1920s, has a rich mathematical structure. It thus came as a pleasant surprise when physicists studying matrix models of 2D gravity found that, coupled to quantum gravity, the planar Ising model still had an elegant solution. The methods used by V. Kazakov and his collaborators involved the method of orthogonal polynomials. However, these methods were formal, and no direct analytic derivation of the phase transition has been …
Recovering Generators Of Principal Ideals Using Subfield Structure And Applications To Cryptography, William Youmans
Recovering Generators Of Principal Ideals Using Subfield Structure And Applications To Cryptography, William Youmans
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The principal ideal problem (PIP) is the problem of determining if a given ideal of a number field is principal, and if so, of finding a generator.Algorithms for resolving the PIP can be efficiently adapted to solve many hard problems in algebraic number theory, such as the computation of the class group, unit group, or $S$-unit group of a number field. The PIP is also connected to the search for approximate short vectors, known as the $\gamma$-Shortest Vector Problem ($\gamma$-SVP), in certain structured lattices called ideal lattices, which are prevalent in cryptography. We present an algorithm for resolving the PIP …
Cognitive Dysfunction In Older Breast Cancer Survivors, Adele Crouch
Cognitive Dysfunction In Older Breast Cancer Survivors, Adele Crouch
Dissertations
Up to 75% of the more than 3.5 million breast cancer survivors (BCS) living in the United States report cognitive dysfunction. However, little is known about cognitive dysfunction among older BCS, who may be at greater risk. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to characterize cognitive dysfunction in older BCS. Specific aims included:
(1) synthesize the literature regarding cognitive dysfunction in older BCS
(2) examine the relationships between a) objective cognitive function (immediate memory, delayed memory, attention, executive function-working memory, verbal fluency) and subjective cognitive function (attention); b) demographic factors, medical factors, treatment factors, and cancer-related symptoms (depressive symptoms, …
Renovating A Double Fence With Or Without Notifying The Next Door And Across The Street Neighbors: Why The Biogenic Cytoplasmic Membrane Of Gram-Negative Bacteria Display Asymmetry?, Mikhail Bogdanov
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
The complex two-membrane organization of the envelope of Gram-negative bacteria imposes an unique biosynthetic and topological constraints that can affect translocation of lipids and proteins synthesized on the cytoplasm facing leaflet of the cytoplasmic (inner) membrane (IM), across the IM and between the IM and outer membrane (OM). Balanced growth of two membranes and continuous loss of phospholipids in the periplasmic leaflet of the IM as metabolic precursors for envelope components and for translocation to the OM requires a constant supply of phospholipids in the IM cytosolic leaflet. At present we have no explanation as to why the biogenic E. …
