Introduction – Quel Avenir Pour Le Théâtre Dans Le Monde Arabe ? Pratiques, Formes Et Perspectives De La Pérennisation Du Courant Théâtral Dans Le Monde Arabe, Najla Nakhlé-Cerruti

Molière Chez Les Hommes De Théâtre De La Nahda Et Tayeb Saddiki, Mahfoud Kecili
Regards
In this paper, we study the presence of Molière in the theatre of Mārūn al-Naqqāš and of Tayeb Saddiki. We show how al-Naqqāš appropriated Molière’s theatre to introduce a new literary genre in the Arab world: Western-style theatre. He employs the comedy and satire of Molière’s theatre as a tool for reflection. In his play al-Baẖīl, he deals with the theme of avarice and that of generational conflicts, which he exposes with a comic vein and satire. In doing so, he urges his fellow citizens to innovate in the arts, drawing from the classical adab and the glorious past …

Entretien Avec Roger Assaf. Théâtre Et Espace Public : Entre Immersion Et Divertissement, Roger Assaf, Marianne Noujaim
Regards
In this interview, Roger Assaf perceives the constraints of contemporary Lebanese and Arab theatre through the lens of his reflection on the relationship between History — with its dark periods and revolutions — and theatre’s history. Contingent on its historical context, theatre has always oscillated between entertainment and immersion. Assaf evokes his Al-ḥakawātī theatre experience as well as the earliest Arab theatre festivals, drawing a comparison between their sociopolitical dynamics and production modes, on the one hand, and those of contemporary Lebanese and Arab theatres, on the other. He believes that the memory of such theatrical experiences, albeit lacunary, stands …

V2v And V2i Based Safety And Platooning Algorithms For Connected And Autonomous Vehicles, Omkar Dokur
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Connected Vehicles (CVs) make transportation safe by communicating with vehicles and the infrastructure in their neighborhood. CVs are embedded with onboard units (OBUs) which transmit basic safety messages (BSMs) containing the location, heading, and velocity information of the vehicle using either Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) or Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology. These BSMs can be used to warn drivers using various vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) applications. Along with these applications, CV technology also gives rise to cooperative vehicular driving applications such as platooning. A group of vehicles can negotiate and drive jointly close to each other in a cooperative manner …

Minnesota Statute Sections 609A, 243.166, and 609.02 define conditions under which individuals with criminal records can expunge their records. Ascertaining, then applying the law to a sample of 581,478 criminal histories of people with convictions records, and then extrapolating to the estimated population of 1.1M individuals in the state with criminal records , 2 we estimate the share and number of people who are eligible for relief but have not received it and therefore fall into the “second chance gap,” the difference between eligibility for and receipt of records relief. Importantly, we assumed that all who met the threshold criteria …

Masculine Desire And Feminine Imitation: Contextualizing Heterosexual Relationships In Sister Carrie, Jennifer L. White
Masculine Desire And Feminine Imitation: Contextualizing Heterosexual Relationships In Sister Carrie, Jennifer L. White
Master of Arts in Classical Studies
Theodore Dreiser is generally considered one of the greatest American naturalist authors across the genre. His depiction of life is gritty and harsh, his characters at the mercy of their natural impulses and their unforgiving environment. However, there is also a sentimental element to Dreiser’s work, especially in his portrayal of romantic relationships. In the face of unrelenting adversity, there is a glimmer of possibility in the longing for meaningful human connection, if only under different circumstances. While Dreiser’s naturalistic approach suggests that such relationships can never be truly fulfilling due to either the innate frailty of the participants or …

Differential Contributions Of Glun2a- And Glun2b- Containing Nmda Receptors To Tissue Recovery After Sd, Jordan E. Weisend, C W. Shuttleworth
Brain & Behavioral Health Research Day
Spreading depolarizations (SDs) are now recognized as a principal source of excessive glutamate accumulation in stroke. It is not yet known whether different NMDA receptor (NMDAR) subtypes contribute to progression of SD or damaging effects of SD in vulnerable tissues. We examined possible contributions of GluN2A- and GluN2B-containing NMDARs to SDs in healthy and vulnerable tissues. Focal microinjection of KCl was used to initiate SDs in the hippocampal CA1 subregion of murine brain slices. Intrinsic optical signals (iOS) monitored SD propagation and tissue swelling. Extracellular potential changes (“DC shifts”) were used to examine prolonged depolarizations previously linked to neuronal injury. …

Melanoma brain metastasis (MBM) is linked to poor prognosis and low overall survival. We hypothesized that melanoma circulating tumor cells (CTCs) possess a gene signature significantly expressed and associated with MBM. Employing a multi-pronged approach, we provide first-time evidence identifying a common CTC gene signature for ribosomal protein large/small subunits (RPL/RPS) which associate with MBM onset and progression. Experimental strategies involved capturing, transcriptional profiling and interrogating CTCs, either directly isolated from blood of melanoma patients at distinct stages of MBM progression or from CTC-driven MBM in experimental animals. Second, we developed the first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) CTC-derived MBM xenograft …

Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (PAE) results in deficits in executive functioning. PAE is also associated with placental abnormalities in function and perfusion, deemed placental insufficiency (PI). PI independently contributes to neurodevelopmental deficits. The impact on the combined effects of PAE and PI is unknown. We hypothesized that voluntary moderate PAE+PI would result in decreased neuronal complexity within the medial frontal cortex, a region critical to executive functioning, assessed through use of a three-dimensional (3D) Sholl analysis.
To establish a model of moderate PAE and PI, pregnant Long-Evans rats voluntarily drank 5% ethanol or saccharin water until embryonic day 18 (E18). On …

Guidance On Methadone For Opioid Use Disorder In Older Adults: Current Practices, M E. Dankoscik, S H. Patel, A Viszolay, E W. Green, C Smith, V Jacobsohn
Brain & Behavioral Health Research Day
Introduction: Opioid use disorder is highly prevalent and treatment is becoming more complex with the emergence of fentanyl. Methadone is a highly effective medication and full agonist of the opioid receptor allowing treatment of patients with high opioid tolerance. The proportion of adults over 65 is increasing and will rise to 77 million by 2034. In geriatric populations up to 50% of Medicare recipients take at least five medications a day. This polypharmacy and physiologic changes of metabolism puts this population at a higher risk of adverse events. In this study, we aim to determine the current practice of methadone …

Our ability to discern multiple, simultaneous latent processes during the exertion of control is limited by rudimentary combinations of manifest behavior. We hypothesized that EEG could provide unique evidence that control can simultaneously alter behavioral output (i.e. decision threshold) as well as sensory gain (i.e. drift rate). This study includes EEG data from 21 young adults who completed a Flankers task where the luminance of the stimuli varied trial-wise against a black background. Conflict was associated with lower drift and lower threshold, as well as increased frontal midline theta power. Controlling for these effects, lower drift rate and threshold were …
Emotional Faces And Working Memory In Children With High Autistic And Anxiety Traits, Teagan Mullins, Jeremy Hogeveen
Emotional Faces And Working Memory In Children With High Autistic And Anxiety Traits, Teagan Mullins, Jeremy Hogeveen
Brain & Behavioral Health Research Day
While the impact of anxiety and autism on working memory has been investigated, conflicting findings have been reported. For both conditions, working memory has been reported to be intact, impaired, or improved, or variously modulated by other factors, including emotional content of stimuli, and neuroimaging findings have been varied. When looking at the combined effect of comorbidity, the picture is even less clear. Here, we determined whether a classic finding in the cognitive neuroscience of anxiety—increased salience and attention to negative emotional stimuli—varies across children who do or do not also have elevated autistic traits. Specifically, we used the Adolescent …

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a stroke subtype which poses one of the greatest treatment challenges affecting about 2 million people yearly worldwide. About 45 percent of ICH extend into the ventricles resulting in intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), which is associated with a 50-80 percent mortality and high morbidity.1 Historically, surgical clot evacuation has failed to significantly improve functional outcomes1 .2 Minimally invasive approaches using an external ventricular drain with intermittent dosing of alteplase have shown to be a safe and viable method of reducing clot volume.3,4 Despite not improving functional outcomes, a subgroup of patients may benefit …

Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) results in a constellation of negative consequences clinically known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), which include disorders of mood, behavior, and cognition. The hypothalamus and amygdala influence the stress response of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Glucocorticoids (CORT) released into circulation following HPA activation exert negative feedback by activating glucocorticoid receptors (GR) that inhibit further HPA activation and CORT release. Stress-induced production of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) in the brain initiates HPA activation, a process also associated with the activation of astrocytes and production of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β). We hypothesize that PAE alters brain …

The Impact Of Stress On Graduate Students’ Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Moderating Role Of Mentorship, Victoria Garcia
Theses and Dissertations
Stress is one of the most researched topics in organizational psychology because of the important implications for overall health. Graduate school has many different stressors that put that specific population at a higher risk for the adverse effects of stress. Stress not only has implications for health but specific behaviors like organizational citizenship behaviors. The present study surveyed a sample of graduate students and examined ways in which mentorship can moderate the relation between stress, workload, physical symptoms, and OCBs. Eighty-five graduate students completed an anonymous survey. Results indicated that stress significantly predicted OCBs in graduate students. Also, mentorship was …

Through investigating the conception of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, it is obvious that the unity is the main factor that ensured the stability and security of the state members. Due to some political concerns, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and State of Bahrain launched boycott policies against the State of Qatar. Accordingly, Qatar has increased its alliance with Turkey and Iran to ensure its national security.
