Development Of Design Method For Fiber Reinforced Slab On Ground, Abdullah Albogami
Development Of Design Method For Fiber Reinforced Slab On Ground, Abdullah Albogami
Theses and Dissertations
All the present methods of designing the slab-on-ground (SOG) are based on the flexural slab capacity (FSC) to determine the required thickness by calculating the modulus of rupture (MOR) of the concrete beam, depending on ASTM C78 or AASHTO T 97 specifications. All previous experimental results have confirmed that the MOR is much lower than the FSC and it cannot be used to predict FSC accurately. Hence, using the MOR to predict the FSC would lead to the underestimation of FSC and require more unnecessary thickness. Therefore, this study aims to develop accurate equation for estimating the FSC based on …
Development Of A Pediatric Heart Assist Device Monitoring System, Natalie Hill
Development Of A Pediatric Heart Assist Device Monitoring System, Natalie Hill
Theses and Dissertations
Heart failure (HF) is one of the leading causes of deaths for adults worldwide, but has disproportionately significant effects on pediatric patients that are often overshadowed. Treatment options for pediatric patients with HF are extremely limited, resulting in increased mortality rates within hospitals. Patients often depend on ventricular assist device (VAD) support as a bridge to transplant. The Berlin Heart EXCOR is the only FDA approved device for pediatric use in the US. However, many hemodynamic and neurological complications continue to arise; for instance, up to 30% of EXCOR patients suffer from stroke. Currently, there is no effective way to …
Water-Soluble Iron Porphyrin Complex For The Catalytic N-Dealkylation Of Fentanyl, Amanda Pitt
Water-Soluble Iron Porphyrin Complex For The Catalytic N-Dealkylation Of Fentanyl, Amanda Pitt
Theses and Dissertations
An increase in the misuse of opioids in the United States and the increasing potency of analogs necessitates novel treatments of opioid overdose. The chemical structure of synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, carfentanil, and morphine possess a trialkyl amine functional group (-NR3) which makes for a promising target for potential catalysts. Iron (III)-tetrasulfonatophenyl porphyrin (complex 9) was synthesized as a potential catalyst for degradation of fentanyl. Complex 9a was prepared from the direct reaction of the free porphyrin and FeSO4. Complex 9b was prepared from the direct reaction of the free porphyrin and FeCl2 in refluxing DMF. The complexes were …
Development Of A Customizable Framework For Data Driven Hemodynamic Analysis With Applications In Neurovascular And Cardiovascular Scenarios, Rachel Mae Hillner
Development Of A Customizable Framework For Data Driven Hemodynamic Analysis With Applications In Neurovascular And Cardiovascular Scenarios, Rachel Mae Hillner
Theses and Dissertations
Cardiovascular disease, including but not limited to heart failure and aneurysms, remain a leading cause of death worldwide. Persons over the age of 40 experience upwards of a 20% chance of developing heart failure in their lifetime. With a decrease in viable donor hearts, the reliance on mechanical heart assist devices is on the rise. However, such devices are not without their complications. Specifically, for left heart failure, a common treat, the left ventricular assist device, is characterized by clotting, stroke, and low survival rates as a result. Many studies suggest that such unfavorable results are correlated to adverse hemodynamic …
A Reduced Order Model For Estimation Of Fractional Flow Reserve (Ffr) In Coronary Artery Disease: Assessing The Impact Of Side Branches, Arber Vila
Theses and Dissertations
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) affects millions of people worldwide and remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. To effectively plan treatment and risk stratification, assessing CAD severity is of paramount importance. Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is a critical clinical parameter used to evaluate CAD severity, measured by the ratio of mean distal coronary pressure to mean aortic pressure during hyperemic conditions. Although non-invasive FFR estimation methods have gained popularity, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is impractical for routine clinical use due to the time and resources required. To address this issue, a reduced order model is proposed that accurately captures …

This study demonstrates the feasibility of using liquid exfoliation of expandable graphite into multilayer exfoliated graphene flakes (EGFs) to form a self-assembled thin film on an air–water interface. The film can coat the surface of additive manufactured (AM) steel substrates to enhance surface properties, specifically AM 316 stainless-steel (AM316), AM 8620 steel (AM8620), and samples of the same alloys made by conventional manufacturing (CM) processes. Liquid exfoliation offers a high yield route for an EGF coating that can cover up to 95% of the sample surface with a single application. The thin, flexible EGFs can coat a rough AM metal …

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) have drawn significant attention in recent years due to their extraordinary optical and electronic properties. As heat transfer plays an important role in device performance, various methods such as optothermal Raman spectroscopy and time-domain thermoreflectance have been developed to measure the thermal conductivity and interfacial thermal conductance in 2D van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures. Here, we employ the vibrational-pump-visible-probe (VPVP) spectroscopy to directly visualize the heat transfer process in a heterostructure of multilayer h-BN and monolayer WS2. Following an impulsive vibrational excitation of h-BN in the mid-infrared, we probe the heat transfer …

Explosive eruptions expel volcanic gases and particles at high pressures and velocities. Within this multiphase fluid, small ash particles affect the flow dynamics, impacting mixing, entrainment, turbulence, and aggregation. To examine the role of turbulent particle behavior, we conducted an analogue experiment using a particle-laden jet. We used compressed air as the carrier fluid, considering turbulent conditions at Reynolds numbers from approximately 5,000 to 20,000. Two different particles were examined: 14-μm diameter solid nickel spheres and 13-μm diameter hollow glass spheres. These resulted in Stokes numbers between 1 and 35 based on the convective scale. The particle mass percentage in …

“Brute Force Teacher”: Outlasting The Turbulent Cycle Of Teacher Turnover, Anne Marie Light
Education Policy and Leadership Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to debunk negative stereotypes that surround educators in urban schools and depict how high-performing veteran teachers became the resilient educators they are now. Teachers are the greatest determiner of student success (Marzano et al., 2001). Therefore, understanding our highest-performing teachers in our schools is imperative. Skaalvik and Skaalvik (2011) found that a staggering percentage of the teachers who entered the field left within their first three to five years of teaching. Understanding our highest performing teachers with five plus years of experiences through research is necessary.
This generic qualitative study utilized Polidore’s Theoretical Model …
