Fbh1-Deficient Cells Exhibit A Dampened Stress Response To Wee1 Inhibition, Lucy Jennings May 2023

Fbh1-Deficient Cells Exhibit A Dampened Stress Response To Wee1 Inhibition, Lucy Jennings

Honors College Theses

Cancer is defined by uncontrolled growth from irregular activity by cell cycle proteins; recently, some cell cycle regulators have become attractive targets for cancer therapies. One of these targets is WEE1, a tyrosine kinase that phosphorylates tyrosine 15 (Y15) on CDK1 to stop the progression from G2 into mitosis. FBH1 is a DNA helicase critical for the induction of apoptosis in response to replication stress. Importantly, FBH1 is lost in many melanomas. FBH1 cooperates with MUS81 to create double-strand breaks and induce cell death. We hypothesized that the replication stress response in FBH1-deficient cells depends on the WEE1-dependent G2/M checkpoint …

Characterizing The Influence Of The Moc Support For The Pt Single Atom Catalyst For The Water Gas Shift Reaction, Kathryn Mcgee May 2023

Characterizing The Influence Of The Moc Support For The Pt Single Atom Catalyst For The Water Gas Shift Reaction, Kathryn Mcgee

Honors College Theses

In this report, we looked at characterizing the effect of the support (MoC) for the water gas shift (WGS) environment. The single-atom catalyst analyzed was platinum supported in molybdenum carbide. The primary focus of this report was CO* because of the strong interest in using the WGS reaction to convert CO* contamination. All calculations were performed using the density functional theory (DFT) method. We analyzed the binding energies for the different adsorbates, with a special emphasis on CO and charges of the support. We compared our results to Pt/Al2O3 support. We observed that the support, specifically MoC …

Faculty Research 2023

Left atrial ligation (LAL) of the chick embryonic heart is a model of the hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) where a purely mechanical intervention without genetic or pharmacological manipulation is employed to initiate cardiac malformation. It is thus a key model for understanding the biomechanical origins of HLHS. However, its myocardial mechanics and subsequent gene expressions are not well-understood. We performed finite element (FE) modeling and single-cell RNA sequencing to address this. 4D high-frequency ultrasound imaging of chick embryonic hearts at HH25 (ED 4.5) were obtained for both LAL and control. Motion tracking was performed to quantify strains. Image-based FE …

Nutrition-Related Factors Impacting The Bone Health Of Female Sports And Performance Collegiate Athletes, Elizabeth Doll May 2023

Nutrition-Related Factors Impacting The Bone Health Of Female Sports And Performance Collegiate Athletes, Elizabeth Doll

Master's Theses

Low bone mineral density is commonly found in female athletes and has been related to the energy adequacy and nutrient density of the athlete’s diet. Insufficient dietary energy intake and/or excessive energy expenditure can lead to low energy availability in female athletes, which has been shown to disrupt endocrine, metabolic, and physiological functions. Psychological distress in competitive athletes may affect dietary choices and patterns. To meet their personal or performance standards/goals, an athlete may go to extremes to achieve those standards/goals, including altering their dietary intake.

This study aimed to evaluate the nutrition-related factors affecting the bone health of collegiate …

A Model Knight: Sir Gawain, Chivalric Contradictions, And Grief In Medieval Literature, Kennis Jobe May 2023

A Model Knight: Sir Gawain, Chivalric Contradictions, And Grief In Medieval Literature, Kennis Jobe

Master's Theses

Scholarship on medieval and Arthurian chivalry in recent decades has focused largely on the Gawain Poet’s 1375 Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Sir Thomas Malory’s 1470 Le Morte D’Arthur. These two romances seem to offer more critical looks at the chivalric system than the glorification of knightly life provided by romances from the previous centuries of the high medieval period. In past works such as L’atre Périlleux and Claris et Laris, Sir Gawain is depicted as the ideal knight—in these poems he is humble, strong, noble, and always perfectly in accord with the chivalric code. In Sir Gawain …

Catholic Liberalism And The Liberal Tradition, Kathleen A. Brady May 2023

Catholic Liberalism And The Liberal Tradition, Kathleen A. Brady

Notre Dame Law Review

Criticisms of liberalism are nothing new. All political traditions have their detractors, and as in the past, today’s critics of liberalism include those on the left and right as well as religious believers and those without religious affiliations. However, in very recent years, far-reaching and deepening critiques have been emerging from an unlikely source. Throughout American history, the nation’s religious communities have been among the strongest defenders of religious freedom as well as other fundamental liberal values such as limited government, democratic institutions, civic equality, and other civil freedoms. Conservative Christians have been no exception. With other Americans, they have …

Interdisciplinary And Innovative: A Nursing And Computer Science Collaboration To Create A Barcode Medication Administration System, Jodi Lisbeth Berndt, Peter Ohmann, Imad Rahal, Lindsey Hoeschen, Andrew Rothstein

Nursing Faculty Publications

Preventing medication errors remains a priority in nursing education. The implementation of Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) systems is one strategy that has been used to reduce medication errors. Practice using BCMA in simulated settings may enhance the transfer of these skills to the clinical practice setting. However, the purchase of BCMA educational products available for nursing students can be cost prohibitive for many nursing programs. To overcome the barrier of cost, an interdisciplinary and innovative collaborative approach was used to create a fully functional low-cost BCMA system.

Gibberellic And Naphthalene Acetic Acid Effects On ‘Rupert’ Potato Variety, Logan Atkinson May 2023

Gibberellic And Naphthalene Acetic Acid Effects On ‘Rupert’ Potato Variety, Logan Atkinson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Potato processing facilities often rely on early maturing potato varieties to maintain adequate supplies before harvest of more traditional varieties. The Rupert variety is an example of such an early-maturing variety. However, the Rupert variety has traditionally been characterized by low average stem counts and large tuber sizes. Abnormally large tubers can add difficulties and costs to the processor. Gibberellic acid (GA) and Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) are plant growth regulators that promote growth and have the potential to affect average stem count and in turn, decreases average tuber size. Across two trials and locations (Gooding and Jerome, ID) GA …
