Svar: A Virtual Machine For Portable Code On Reconfigurable Accelerators, Nathaniel Fredricks
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The SPAR-2 array processor was designed as an overlay architecture for implementation on Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). As an overlay, the SPAR-2 array processor can be configured to take advantage of the specific resources available on different FPGAs. However once configured, the SPAR-2 requires programmer’s to have knowledge of the low level architecture, and write platform-specific code. In this thesis SVAR, a hardware/software co-designed virtual machine, is proposed that runs on the SPAR-2. SVAR allows programmers to write portable, platform-independent code once and have it interpreted for any specific configuration. Results are presented that verify the virtual machine …

Characterization Of 2d Quantum Materials Using Ai And Large-Scale Quantum Data Collection, Apoorva Bisht
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
2D materials like hexagonal boron nitride, graphene, and tungsten diselenide are widely utilized for studying their unique mechanical and opto-electronic properties to exploit them to make transistors and fabricating a variety of other devices. All these applications require that the 2D materials used be of specific uniform thickness. Until very recently, this process has been largely manual and tedious. However, few applications exploit the characteristic color-to-thickness correspondence of these near-transparent materials. To continue this effort, in this work we create a large-scale dataset for three different materials (hBN, graphene, and WSe$_2$) to train and test an image segmentation model along …
Towards A Just Transition Impact Assessment Framework, Adebayo Gbenga Majekolagbe
Towards A Just Transition Impact Assessment Framework, Adebayo Gbenga Majekolagbe
PhD Dissertations
Just transition is a contested notion. Its definitions range from status quo enforcing to transformation engendering. Traditionally, just transition focuses on local jobs and workers. Its application within the climate change context retains this traditional focus. From its recognition in the Paris Agreement to its incorporation in domestic transition laws and policies, just transition is essentially interpreted as jobs transition. Further, the scholarship and law of just transition are primarily normatively built on the distributive and procedural conceptualizations of justice. Also, although planning is construed as central to a just transition, there is no clarity on how abstract proposals on …

Dissertations
Lecture capture technology, the ability to provide multimedia recordings of instructional content, has become an essential technology for online learning. One of the ways online courses have tried to appeal to the digital lifestyle of today’s students is providing different lecture capture styles, such as audio (podcasts), video, or interactive videos, due to the popularity of mobile media players providing anytime and anywhere learning. Although lecture capture technology provides educators with a diverse set of tools on how content is delivered, studies have shown mixed results on the impact of lecture capture styles on learning.
For this study, the main …

Early Milk Feeding Impacts Health And Immunity In Later Life, Rebecca Mclennan, Eric S. Geanes, Angela Dickerson, Todd Bradley
Research at Children's Mercy Month 2023
Infants born premature have increased susceptibility to infection and other immune complications. Human milk feeding has been associated with fewer infections and reduced intestinal inflammation leading to improved health outcomes. The composition of milk is variable between mothers and changes over the course of lactation to meet the needs of the growing infant. There is an urgent need to define the components of milk that are critical for protecting against infection and improving infant health. Premature infants often receive combinations of feeding that includes donor milk that is derived from mature milk. Thus, premature infants could receive milk that lacks …

Tender And Taint: Money And Complicity In Entanglement Jurisprudence, Amy J. Sepinwall
Tender And Taint: Money And Complicity In Entanglement Jurisprudence, Amy J. Sepinwall
Notre Dame Law Review
Because liberalism is concerned with individual freedom, it finds that one person is responsible for the conduct of another only under very narrow circumstances. To a large extent, the law reflects this narrow conception of complicity. There is however one glaring exception to the law’s general resistance to complicity claims: where one actor becomes connected to another’s act through a pecuniary contribution, the law’s liberalism falls away. Money forges a cognizable association no matter how tenuous the causal connection and no matter the subsidizer’s attitudes toward the subsidized act. For example, in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, the Supreme Court recognized …

Detecting Retinal Damage With Image Analysis Using Machine Learning Algorithm, Anitha. E, A. Antonidoss
Detecting Retinal Damage With Image Analysis Using Machine Learning Algorithm, Anitha. E, A. Antonidoss
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Retina is an important layer of tissue in the back of the eye. The retina’s primary job is to gather light that the lens has focused, convert the light into neural signals, and send those signals to the brain for optical compensation. This crucial tissue may appear damaged due to retinal detachment (RD). Such conditions can impair vision and undoubtedly have the potential to be severe enough to cause blindness. It can be challenging to identify the damage since the layers and the nerve connections are too delicate and thin, and they may be mistaken for another illness. IMRCNN, an …

Fuzzy Time Series Inference For Stationary Linear Processes: Features And Algorithms With Simulation, Khaled M. Alqahtani, Mohammed H. El-Menshawy, Mohamed S. Eliwa, Mahmoud El-Morshedy, Rashad M. El-Sagheer
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The primary objective of this article is to estimate the unknown parameters of stationary linear processes based on a fuzzy time series approach to observations that follow AR (1) processes. Predicted observations are obtained using fuzzy time series. Both actual and forecasted observations are utilized to study various classic method’s estimators for the autoregressive parameter. The comparisons between actual and forecasted observations in all estimating processes are discussed based on the mean squared errors. Furthermore, to investigate the extent to which fuzzy time series can enhance estimates produced by traditional estimating techniques. Based on these comparisons, it is possible to …

On Generalized Harmonically Ψ-Mt-Convex Functions Via Local Fractional Integrals And Some Applications, Miguel Vivas-Cortez, Muhammad Shoaib Saleem, Ahsan Fareed Shah, Waqas Nazeer, Jorge Eliecer Herna ́Ndez Herna ́Ndez
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this work, we introduce a new class of harmonically convex functions, namely, generalized harmonically ψ-MT-convex functions established on fractal set techniques, for establishing inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type and certain related variants with respect to the Raina’s function. With the help of an auxiliary identity associated with Raina’s function, by generalized Holder inequality and generalized power mean, generalized midpoint type, Ostrowski type, and trapezoid type inequalities via local fractional integral for generalized harmonically ψ-MT-convex functions are given. The introduced technique gives the results by establishing some special values for the parameters or applying restrictive suppositions and is entirely practicable for …

Legendre Polynomials’ Second Derivative Tau Method For Solving Lane-Emden And Ricatti Equations, M. Abdelhakem, Mona Fawzy, M. El-Kady, Hanaa Moussa
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper investigates a highly efficient method that depends on the Tau method for solving initial and boundary value problems. The second derivatives of Legendre polynomials (SDLPs) have been used as novel basis functions. A linearization relation for the presented basis functions has been introduced and proved to avoid any issues arising during tau’s integration, especially for the nonlinear problems. Consequently, some essential integrations have been determined. Moreover, we used those relations to construct explicit forms for approximating the solutions of Lane-Emden and the Recatti equations. In addition, the presented strategy’s converge and error analysis are discussed carefully and in-depth. …

Numerical Solutions Of A Three-Dimensional Schro ̈Dinger Equation For A Non–Relativistic Quark Model, M. Allosh, M. S. Abdelaal, F. Alshowaikh, A. Ismail
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
An accurate bound state eigenvalues are evaluated and plotted utilizing the non–relativistic quark model by using three different methods. The methods are employed perfectly within the three-dimensional time–independent Schro ̈dinger equation. Therefore, developing an effective technique to manipulate this well–known equation is the main reason for publishing this study. In this regard, an extensive comparison of the calculated numerical approaches with experimental data was conducted. In most cases, the three considered methods reflected optimal results for heavy mesonic family members by satisfying the minimization condition of χ2 values for each.

A New Iterative Approach For Designing Passive Harmonic Filters For Variable Frequency Drives, Tareq Foqha, Samer Alsadi, Osama Omari, Mohammad Rasmi Al-Mousa, Salem Aljazzar, Mohammad Kanan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The extensive usage of variable frequency drives (VFDs) in industrial applications has caused significant concern regarding the quality of power in electrical distribution systems. VFDs are nonlinear loads that cause harmonic voltages across system impedance by injecting harmonic currents into the power system. The performance of other sensitive loads in the system may be harmed as a result of this harmonic distortion. This study presents a new method for designing and specifying low-voltage harmonic filters for 6-pulse VFDs. An electrical distribution system feeding a group of variable frequency drives was analyzed using the proposed methodology. MATLAB software was used to …

Application Of Effective Semi-Analytical Algorithms For Neutral And Retarded Volterra Integrodifferential Equations, Mohamed S. M. Bahgat, Mofida Zaki
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This study developed three semi-analytical algorithms to solve functional integrodifferential equations with variable delays under initial conditions. These algorithms embrace the Laplace Adomian decomposition method (LADM), the modified Laplace Adomian decomposition method (MLADM), and the Laplace variational iteration method (LVIM). Using the suggested approaches, we find the solutions without discretization, transformation, or limiting traditions while considering suitable initial conditions. In addition, the solutions are generated in fast-converging series with easily calculable terms. The proposed methodologies are tested numerically on three numerical applications to prove their efficacy and dependability as well as to compare their computational efficiency. Based on the numerical …
Polar Convex Programming: A New Paradigm For Nonlinear Optimization, Lilia Benakkouche, Blake Whitman, Baha Alzalg
Polar Convex Programming: A New Paradigm For Nonlinear Optimization, Lilia Benakkouche, Blake Whitman, Baha Alzalg
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, our central notions of analysis are convexity and betweenness. These concepts are given from the viewpoint of conceptual spaces and are specified in relation to the coordinates of a polar system. We introduce and study a problem that seeks to optimize a polar convex objective subject to polar convex constraints, which we refer to as the polar convex programming problem. We utilize a geometric methodology to solve the two-dimensional version of this optimization problem. Our interpretation of the approach is inspired by the classical graphical method for linear optimization problems. To the best of our knowledge, this …

Solitary Wave Solution For Fractional-Order General Equal-Width Equation Via Semi Analytical Technique, Khalid K. Ali, F. E. Abd Elbary, Mohamed S. Abdel-Wahed, M. A. Elsisy, Mourad S. Semary
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents an innovative approach to solve equal-width time-fractional-order equations that describe the behavior of waves in a certain physical system, using the Caputo operator to express the fractional derivative by improving the Taylor series expansion. Its convergence theorem is proven, and the error between the exact and approximate solutions is estimated; the resulting solutions are illustrated using graphs for different values of the fractional derivative order and time. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in reducing computational effort for solving nonlinear fractional partial differential equations (NFPDEs).
