Simulation And Improving Clinical Judgment In Prelicensure Nursing Students: A Mixed Method Approach, Lizabeth J. Reents May 2023

Simulation And Improving Clinical Judgment In Prelicensure Nursing Students: A Mixed Method Approach, Lizabeth J. Reents

Dissertations

Simulation has been considered a valid pedagogy for health professionals in education and actual practice. Its proper execution is vital for proper assimilation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes within the pre-licensure students throughout their curricular journey. High fidelity and multi-patient simulation scenarios were employed for beginner fundamental and advanced senior level nursing students with significant quantitative increases in clinical judgment found between groups using an independent t test and the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric (LCJR). The LCJR is based upon the Tanner's clinical judgment model and has been extensively used throughout the world demonstrating solid reliability and validity. Qualitative responses …

Soils store more carbon than other terrestrial ecosystems1,2. How soil organic carbon (SOC) forms and persists remains uncertain1,3, which makes it challenging to understand how it will respond to climatic change3,4. It has been suggested that soil microorganisms play an important role in SOC formation, preservation and loss5,6,7. Although microorganisms affect the accumulation and loss of soil organic matter through many pathways4,6,8,9,10,11, microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) is an integrative metric that can capture the balance of these processes12,13. Although CUE has the potential to act as a predictor of variation in SOC storage, the role of CUE in SOC …

Investing In The Middle, Molly Schnoke, Jack Yochum, Shannon Driscoll, James Flanigan

All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications

Middle Neighborhoods (MNs) are generally recognized for their safety, stability and affordability for residents. They also provide an important opportunity to give lower-income populations access to affordable housing and an overall higher quality of life, but the number of MNs is declining throughout the U.S. Recognizing these opportunities and challenges regarding MNs, the research team set out to fill in the existing knowledge gaps about which public policies and programmatic activities are effective at 1) stabilizing MNs and 2) providing equitable access for lower-income and marginalized populations to join and stay in MNs.

Single-Compartment Dose Prescriptions For Ablative 90y-Radioembolization Segmentectomy, Srinivas Cheenu Kappadath, Benjamin P Lopez May 2023

Single-Compartment Dose Prescriptions For Ablative 90y-Radioembolization Segmentectomy, Srinivas Cheenu Kappadath, Benjamin P Lopez

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

BACKGROUND: Yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization is increasingly being utilized with curative intent. While single-compartment doses with respect to the perfused volume for the complete pathologic necrosis (CPN) of tumors have been reported, the actual doses delivered to the tumor and at-risk margins that leads to CPN have hitherto not been estimated. We present an ablative dosimetry model that calculates the dose distribution for tumors and at-risk margins based on numerical mm-scale dose modeling and the available clinical CPN evidence and report on the necessary dose metrics needed to achieve CPN following 90Y-radioembolization.

METHODS: Three-dimensional (3D) activity distributions (MBq/voxel) simulating spherical tumors …

Stop The Clocks: Enabling Practitioners And Precarity In Pandemic Time(S), Anita Olds, Susan Hopkins, Joanne Lisciandro, Angela Jones, Juliette Subramaniam, Marguerite Westacott, Ana Larsen, Rebekah Sturniolo-Baker, Helen Scobie

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced new tensions and pressures for universities. While students and staff already experienced time pressures in competitive neoliberalised economies, these strains accelerated during the pandemic. The aim of this autoethnography study was to capture the lived experience of eight practitioners working in teaching, leadership and professional practice within the field of enabling education, across six Australian institutions between 2020–2021. The problem of ‘time’ emerged as a dominant theme. Without adequate time to balance work and life, sustaining personal and collective wellbeing became precarious. This paper engages with ‘precarity’ (Butler 2004, 2012) as manifested in workplace anxiety, stress …

Interannual Variation Of Ichthyofaunal Utilization Of A Man-Made Salt Marsh Creek In Mission Bay, California, Maria Angst May 2023

Interannual Variation Of Ichthyofaunal Utilization Of A Man-Made Salt Marsh Creek In Mission Bay, California, Maria Angst

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Marsh restoration and creation are increasingly being used to mitigate Southern California’s drastic decline in wetlands due to human activities. This study used minnow traps to resample the ichthyofauna of a created marsh (Crown Point Mitigation Site; CPMS) and an adjacent natural marsh (Kendall Frost) in Mission Bay, California, 26 years following the marsh creation. Data from this study were compared to data collected immediately after marsh creation from 1995-1998, and from 2021. Fishes captured included Fundulus parvipinnis, Gillichthys mirabilis, Acanthagobius flavimanus, Ctenogobius sagittula, and Mugil cephalus. Species richness and dominance measures were higher in the natural relative to the …

Intra-Generational Encounters With Balloons And Bread Rolls: Exploring Reciprocity In Post/Age Pedagogic Spaces, Joanna Haynes, Lois Peach May 2023

Intra-Generational Encounters With Balloons And Bread Rolls: Exploring Reciprocity In Post/Age Pedagogic Spaces, Joanna Haynes, Lois Peach

Plymouth Institute of Education

This writing originates from unease with assumptions that often shape intergenerational practices and everyday encounters in the UK, for instance, assumptions about generational ‘gaps’ or ‘roles’ and the pedagogy of ‘interventions’ to promote meetings ‘between’ ages. Such interventions are usually predicated on chrono-logical notions of infant, child, youth, old age, and life stages. Haynes and Murris suggest dis-continuing age/stage-related categorisation by imagining post-age spaces and pedagogies and proposing intra-generational practice. Quinn and Blandon bring ageist ideas of the ‘human’ into question through their posthuman research on dementia and life-long learning. Thinking with such provocations, we re-visited accounts of our own …
