Idiopathic Parkinson's disease (iPD) research has historically prioritized basal ganglia dysfunction and neuronal Lewy body pathology, often overlooking cerebellar and non-neuronal cells contributions. This study investigates cerebellar neuropathology in iPD, specifically focusing on neuronal and non-neuronal cells of the dentate nucleus (DN) and its adjacent white matter (DN-WM). We systematically assessed autopsy-confirmed iPD brains vs. age-matched controls using immunohistochemistry and stereology-based morphometry methods. The study evaluated α-synuclein pathology, other common age-related co-occurring pathologies (β-amyloid, Tau, neuroinflammation), myelin integrity (Luxol-Fast-Blue), and neuronal volumetric changes in the DN of the cerebellum. Valproic acid (VPA) is a common medication used to treat epilepsy, known for its broad-spectrum efficacy but also associated with hepatotoxicity and metabolic disturbances. β-glucan, a natural polysaccharide with hepatoprotective properties, may mitigate druginduced liver damage. The study sought to assess hepatorenal toxicity of VPA and investigate the potential protective and therapeutic effects of β-glucan. Forty male rats were randomly distributed into four groups. The treated group received VPA (500 mg/kg), β-glucan (50 mg/kg), or combinations for 14–21 days via intraperitoneal injection. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is navigating a complex economic transition shaped by demographic change, workforce aging, and sectoral concentration. While the region has experienced long-term population decline, its labor force has remained stable due to rising participation among older workers. At the same time, the U.P.’s economy remains highly concentrated in extraction, construction, and production industries. These industries offer strong wages but are sensitive to economic cycles.

PURPOSE: There is a lack of data reviewing the role of predicted cardiac mass ratio (PCMR) in transplant recipients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). In particular, the right ventricular (RV) mass ratio (RVMR) is a component of PCMR not yet studied separately for this purpose. We aimed to review the relationship of PCMR and RVMR with PH in terms of post-transplant overall survival.

Background: A study conducted in 2023 by the Occupational Therapy (OT) Department and Marquette University school of dentistry (MUsoD) demonstrated that many student participants scored below average on hand function testing, indicating a need for occupational therapy intervention. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy–led training for periodontics and registered dental hygienist faculty on the performance of dental students in the Introduction to Clinical Practice course (DEIN 7114). Strawflower is a cut-and-come again, full-sun annual that performs well with reduced irrigation. Often called the “everlasting flower” and “paper flower,” the dry, daisy-like blooms range from earthy salmon and terracotta to white and dusky blush tones. Strawflower adds texture to floral design, and the diverse color palette is attractive to florists. This cut flower is also exceptional for drying, as it is nearly dried in the field when ready for harvest. The non-fussy growth, low resource use, branching habit, and easy harvest make strawflower an excellent field crop in the U.S. Intermountain West, though expected yields may be lower …

Understanding social determinants of health (SDOH) is crucial for Occupational Therapy students to develop empathy and deliver optimal healthcare. This study explores using web-based 360° cinematic virtual reality (cine-VR) simulations in Level I fieldwork to address SDOH education and occupational engagement before community-based exposure.

This mixed methods study involved surveys and thematic analysis of written reflections from fifty students in a distance-based program at a Midwest university. Students viewed 12 web-based immersive cine-VR modules about a client experiencing multiple SDOH impacts. Surveys were conducted at baseline, post-intervention, and 6-weeks post-intervention, measuring empathy using the Jefferson Empathy Scale and attitudes toward …
