The Politics Of Fertility: Population And Pronatalism In Ladakh, Jennifer Aengst

HIMALAYA, the Journal of the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies

In India’s northwestern region of Ladakh, the linkage between reproduction, politics, and fertility is both complicated and contested, evident in increasing population discourses and the re-emergence of a Buddhist pronatalist movement. This paper examines the impacts of population discourses and pronatalism on women’s reproductive decision-making, as well as on the delivery of healthcare throughout Ladakh. Population discourses currently circulating produce two reproductive subjects—the “hyper-fertile Muslim woman” and the “vulnerable Buddhist”—both of which have been central in revitalizing Buddhist pronatalism. Data collected through a hospital-based survey and interviews shows that fertility behavior is shaped by religious interpretations, political mobilization, and pressure …

Effects Of Ball Milling Duration And Sintering Temperature On Mechanical Alloying Fe3si, Varistha Chobpattana, Chakansin Phoomkong, Peerawat Nutnual, Kritsada Thaengthong, Wanchai Pijitrojana

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Fe3Si is under interest as a ferromagnetic electrode of magnetic tunneling junctions (MTJs). Its crystalline structure is important for achieving high device efficiency. This work focuses on mechanical alloying of 3:1 ratio of 99% pure Fe and Si powder mixtures by ball milling and sintering. The mixtures were ball-milled for various durations up to 20 h. Then, they were sintered from 400°C  to 800°C for 4 h in Ar.  SEM images and particle size analysis show significant reduction in average particle size of the mixtures after ball milling for 20 h. The longer duration of ball milling process promotes powder …

(R2165) Two Different Stages With Two Distinct Harvesting Processes, S. Vijaya, Krishika M

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This study extends the classical Lotka-Volterra prey-predator model by incorporating a stage structured prey population consisting of juvenile and adult stages, while considering a single predator species governed by a Holling type II functional response. The growth of the juvenile prey depends on the adult prey population and since the juvenile prey has no reproduction capability. Two distinct harvesting strategies are introduced in the model. Constant-yield harvesting is applied to the juvenile stage of the prey population and represents a fixed amount of harvest regardless of population size. Constant effort harvesting is applied to the adult stage of the prey …

Reducing Short Circuit Level In 400kv Iraqi Grid System By Using Facts Device, Inaam I., Mohanad Sh. Tarad

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

Electrical power systems are different in their sizes because of their amount of generation power stations, substations, transmission lines and loads. Therefore, these factors may impact on short circuit levels values. Capacity of power stations and dummy transmission lines in Extra high Voltage grid (400kV) of the Iraqi Electrical power grids cause high short circuit levels values such that exceed both rating of the peak and breaking capacity of switchgear equipment's. Reduction of short-circuit levels by using Fast-acting Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) types devices in power grids maintain the operation of power grids with acceptable value of short …
