Numerical algorithms for computing the electronic structure of incommensurate 2D-materials using ab initio models are critical for predicting material properties and guiding experiments. For bilayers, momentum space and continuum models have been introduced to approximate observables of ab initio tight-binding models using a momentum description, despite the lack of periodicity in the tight-binding model required for Bloch theory. A similar structure has been introduced for double-incommensurate trilayers using a continuum model, where the three lattices are mutually incommensurate. However, this description leads to a four-dimensional lattice space, and numerical convergence of the density of states has been observed to be …

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in summarization, reasoning, and content generation, yet their inability to directly interpret large-scale omics data has limited their utility in data-driven hypothesis generation-particularly in mechanism discovery that demands the integration and interpretation of multimodal datasets, heterogeneous models, and deep domain expertise. Conversely, traditional computational algorithms excel at quantitative analysis of omics data but often rely heavily on labor-intensive, expert-driven interpretation to extract biologically meaningful insights. As artificial intelligence transforms aviation, aerospace, and autonomy-related sectors, higher education must adapt to meet evolving workforce demands. This session shares emerging findings from a nationwide study led by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, focused on employer perceptions of AI adoption, responsible use, and workforce preparedness in domains including uncrewed systems, space systems, robotics, and advanced air mobility. Based on a structured survey and follow-up interviews, the presentation explores how organizations are using AI tools, from generative platforms to enterprise systems, and defining effective and inappropriate use in operational contexts. Parents Caring For Adult Children With Co-Occurring Disorders: A Phenomenological Study, Cynthia D. Williams

The purpose of this study was to explore and understand the lived experiences of parents caring for an adult child, aged 18 to 30 years, with a co-occurring mental health and substance use diagnosis, with attention to how caregiving intersects with trauma, resilience, and systemic challenges. To guide this exploration, the Resilience Trauma Negotiation (RTN) framework was introduced to examine how exposure, appraisal, coping responses, and systemic context intersect to shape the complex realities of caregiving. Using Moustakas’s seven-step transcendental phenomenological approach, semi-directed interview questions were facilitated with 14 caregivers. Delirium is an acute cognitive failure characterized by an acute onset and psychomotor disturbances. It is associated with poor outcomes in hospitalized patients, resulting in prolonged hospital stays, elevated rates of mortality, and cognitive dysfunctions after hospital discharge. The pathophysiology of delirium remains poorly understood, making the development of animal models a promising avenue for researchers to elucidate the mechanisms underlying human delirium. These models not only aid in understanding the pathophysiology and etiology of the disease but also enhance the efficacy of nonpharmacological interventions and identify pharmacological therapies. This dissertation develops a rhetorical framework for explaining how language circulates, shifts in meaning, and gains persuasive force in contemporary media environments. Existing models describe the movement of discourse but offer limited tools for analyzing how circulating narratives change—how affect, identity, and digital infrastructures shape that transformation. This project defines contagious rhetoric as a set of linguistic and narrative processes through which discourse becomes amplified, distorted, reclaimed, or weaponized. The studies examine two sites where these dynamics are especially visible: feminist digital storytelling in the #medusatattoo TikTok corpus and the strategic appropriation of abolitionist terminology by anti-abortion activists. Seismic hazard analysis depends on reliable prediction of ground motion intensity and accurate estimation of earthquake magnitude. Data-driven approaches have gained attention as potential complements to traditional regression-based and waveform-based methods. This dissertation investigates the role of advanced machine learning frameworks in improving both ground-motion modeling and moment-magnitude estimation. The study first examines the current state of machine learning applications in ground motion prediction and identifies key methodological challenges, including model validation, residual behavior, and physical consistency. The mid 1970s witnessed a massive Maoist campaign to attack the late imperial vernacular fiction Water Margin, which had been previously favored by the Chinese Communist Party because of its elements of rebellion and egalitarianism. The paper examines the Criticize Water Margin Campaign in 1975 and 1976 that interpreted the fiction as class-reconciliation and surrender. I argue that the dramatic shift of the narratives surrounding Water Margin manifested the deeply embedded paradox between rebellion and normalization in the communist revolutionary project. Juvenile crime is rising in many U.S. communities, amplifying stress, anxiety, and safety concerns for teens—especially in high-crime neighborhoods where supportive spaces are scarce. This thesis examines whether environmental design practices in teen-focused third spaces—specifically lighting, materials, and restorative views—can measurably reduce stress, anxiety, and violence among youth. Grounded in environmental sociology, trauma-informed design, and biophilic theory, this study centers on creative third-space design that locates maker spaces for cooking, coding, woodworking, welding, and ceramics within a calm common area and an outdoor setting.

Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a causative agent of acute lower respiratory tract infections, especially in children. Until now, there are not many natural-based immunomodulatory therapies available. This study aims to explore the potential of household plants from the Syzygiumand zingiber Genus as immunomodulators against HMPV using computational studies. The target receptor used is RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), a vital enzyme in HMPV genome replication. The methods used include molecular docking, validation of biological activity through Way2Drug and evaluation of pharmacokinetic feasibility using Lipinski’s Rule of Five. This thesis examines the uncanny, bodily, grotesque, and metamorphic states of beings that exist between human and non-human forms. In my sculptural practice, I approach the body not as a fixed or self-contained object, but as a fluid, unstable, and continuously transforming condition. Working primarily with wool, foam, silicone, wax, latex, and metal, I use material interaction, fleshy quality, gravity, and open-ended processes to generate forms that appear unresolved, bodily, and in the middle of becoming. Background: Health care transition (HCT) preparation is a structured process that empowers youth to take ownership of their health care as they transition into adulthood. Youth with Down syndrome (DS), a common genetic disorder associated with a high burden of co-occurring conditions, require HCT preparation support at a higher rate than their typically developing peers. Political rights are part of human rights guaranteed by international law and the Indonesian constitution. However, Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs) in Taiwan face various challenges in exercising their right to vote in the 2024 elections. This research analyzes the obstacles faced by PMIs in Taiwan in the democratic process using politic of citizenship framework by Stokke. The research method used is a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews with various relevant stakeholders. Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country with complex and diverse social and economic welfare problems. These welfare issues sometimes become sensitive electoral issues used to mobilize electoral support in elections. One of the welfare problems experienced by its citizens is the issue of inhospitable housing (Rumah Tidak Layak Huni / RTLH). This article seeks to explain how RTLH has become an electoral issue through the conceptual framework of political linkage.
