This literature-based project examines the impact of challenging behavior on student learning and evaluates the effectiveness of preventative classroom management strategies. Challenging behaviors include aggression, disruption and withdrawal, negatively affect the learning environment by decreasing student engagement, increasing teacher stress and burnout, and contributing to a less supportive classroom climate. Grounded in Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development and Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, this project emphasizes the importance of developmentally appropriate practices that support both cognitive and social-emotional growth. Although learning over multiple days is more effective than a single day of training, the underlying cellular mechanisms of repeated training trials remain poorly understood. With a combination of empirical and computational approaches, we determined a critical time window for a second stimulus block of a multiday training protocol to augment long-term synaptic facilitation (LTF) of the Aplysia sensorimotor synapse and long-term enhancement of neuronal excitability (LTEE), two cellular correlates of learning and memory. A second stimulus block delivered 24 h after the first block significantly enhanced LTF and LTEE, but was without effect at 18 or 32 h. This …

The purpose of this study was to (a) ascertain the effect mentor text had on student engagement and (b) determine the impact mentor text had on student writing style. Students utilized strategies from five mentor texts during the writer's workshop to write their own personal narratives. Students demonstrated increased engagement through class discussions following each read aloud. Writing style was impacted as students implemented different writing elements into their own writing based on the mentor text discussed. Implications for teaching writing are discussed.

Introduction: Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare syndrome characterized by overactive immune activation, cytokine storm, and uncontrolled hemophagocytosis. Primary HLH is familial and most often seen in infants, whereas secondary HLH occurs more frequently in adults and is triggered by infections, malignancies, or autoimmune disorders. Clinically, secondary HLH often mimics sepsis but fails to respond to standard therapies, contributing to delayed diagnosis and treatment. Without timely intervention, HLH can result in extensive tissue damage, multiorgan failure, and death. In rare cases, central nervous system (CNS) involvement may occur, manifesting as histiocytic infiltration that can be misinterpreted as malignancy or infection. …

Pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis (PLC) accounts for approximately 8% of pulmonary metastases and is primarily associated with breast, lung, and gastric cancers. Chest radiographs are often nonspecific and normal in approximately 50% of cases. We present a case of PLC as an initial presentation of metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma. A 57-year-old White woman with prior tobacco use, asthma, and multiple sclerosis on Natalizumab presented with three months of progressive dyspnea and cough. She was evaluated multiple times and treated with various antibiotics and inhalers for presumed bronchitis. Despite this, her symptoms worsened, prompting hospital evaluation. She was tachycardic and markedly hypoxemic on …

Introduction: Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a rare, aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by selective proliferation of neoplastic cells within small vessel lumina. Cases in Western countries more commonly involve the central nervous system or skin, whereas patients in Eastern regions often present with hemophagocytic syndrome or medullary disease. The absence of lymphadenopathy, low circulating tumor burden, and subtlety of morphologic clues contribute to delays in diagnosis. By presentation, most have advanced disease, and a substantial proportion are diagnosed only at autopsy. Introduction: Cold agglutinin disease (CAD), a subtype of autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), is characterized by IgM autoantibodies that target red blood cell antigens at low temperatures, leading to agglutination in cooler peripheral tissues and hemolysis. Predominately directed against the “I” or “i” antigens, cold agglutinins are commonly associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae and infectious mononucleosis. Distinguishing warm AIHA from CAD can be challenging. Definitive diagnosis relies on antibody testing, with warm AIHA primarily involving IgG and CAD involving IgM. We report a case of CAD initially misattributed to drug-induced liver injury in the setting of a viral upper respiratory infection. Case …

Case Presentation: 70-year-old male presented with one week of fever and a painful right lower extremity purpuric rash that rapidly evolved into fullthickness desquamation and necrosis. Concurrent multiorgan dysfunction: respiratory failure, renal failure with nephritic proteinuria, and severe thrombocytopenia refractory to high dose steroids. Extensive serologic workup for viral, autoimmune, vascular, and hematologic etiologies were pan-negative, including serum cryoglobulins twice repeated (QR code for table of workup). A PET scan for a broad evaluation found a hypermetabolic right inguinal lymph node. Discussion: Unique features of this case: His hematologic workup was convincingly negative in setting of having type 1 CryoGN. …

Background: The bullying of new graduate nurses is often considered a rite of passage in the nursing profession.¹ Bullying within nursing has led to poor professional development, reduced self-confidence, and has the potential to negatively impact patient outcomes; with links to increased medication errors, falls, and hospital costs.^1,9 Within a comprehensive cancer center, high rates of nurse bullying have been reported. The continued evolution of SARS-CoV-2 has enabled an escape from most monoclonal antibodies, yet a subset of broadly neutralizing antibodies targeting three newly identified super-conserved RBD epitopes—SCORE-A, SCORE-B, and SCORE-C—retains remarkable activity against even the most recent JN.1-derived sublineages. Here, we employed an integrated computational framework combining conformational dynamics, mutational scanning, MM-GBSA binding energetics, and frustration profiling to dissect the molecular mechanisms by which XGI antibodies achieve broad neutralization and resistance to immune escape. This project focused on the development and implementation of a Lifestyle Redesign^®-based program to improve well-being and quality of life among older adults living in a skilled nursing facility. The program emphasized engagement in meaningful, client-centered activities tailored to the residents’ interests and values. Ten participants from two long-term care neighborhoods completed a five-week program consisting of ten wellness sessions. Sessions were designed to promote emotional, physical, and social engagement while incorporating participants’ personal values, including spiritual elements. Limited access to veterinary care can have an impact on animal welfare and an economic impact for producers. This study aimed to assess factors influencing access to veterinary services, including cost, distance to clinics, perceived value of care, and availability of mobile veterinary professionals. The purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to examine whether teacher role (general vs. special education) and self-identified ethnicity (Native American vs. non–Native American) were associated with teachers’ attitudes toward inclusive special education in rural schools in a southern U.S. state. Understanding whether role and ethnicity correspond to differences in attitudes toward inclusion is important for informing staffing, collaboration, and professional learning in rural contexts. From 1945 to 1975, American servicewomen stood inside an institution that depended on their labor while restricting their place within it. The post World War II military relied on women to sustain administrative, technical, and medical operations across a widening Cold War landscape, yet guarded the authority and recognition attached to combat and command. Women kept global communications running, delivered medical care in field hospitals, and carried out intelligence work that shaped military decisions. However, legal and cultural boundaries limited the reach of such contributions.

The Black community prefers to seek mental health support from their pastors, friends, families, and church members rather than from a professional counselor. This mistrust is seated in a deeply rooted history of transgenerational trauma towards the medical and mental health care system.
