Despite the influence of the Global North in many insolvency laws and practices in the Global South, this article shows that the Global South has innovated in many aspects of insolvency law. In some cases, these innovations consist of solutions that, with certain adjustments, have been imported from the Global North. In others, they are really ‘autochthonous innovations’ from the Global South. The advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has heightened the proliferation of fake news. A key challenge is the limited real-world data to investigate the societal impact of fake news produced by generative AI. In this paper, we examine stock market reactions to financial news articles that exhibit stylometric similarity to human-crafted and AI-crafted fake financial news. Grounded in language expectancy theory, we employ a style-based transfer learning model, pre-trained to recognizing deceptive language employed in various types of fake news intricacies. The emergence of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) has spurred research into testing the resilience of their perception systems, i.e., ensuring that they are not susceptible to critical misjudgements. It is important that these systems are tested not only with respect to other vehicles on the road, but also with respect to objects placed on the roadside. Trash bins, billboards, and greenery are examples of such objects, typically positioned according to guidelines developed for the human visual system, which may not align perfectly with the needs of AVs. This study examines members of the Nazi Schutzstaffel from an occupational perspective, focusing on how professional roles shaped their participation in systematic mass murder. As National Socialism gained influence in interwar Germany, it coincided with the rise of a generation of ambitious and embittered men eager to distinguish themselves. The transition from the T4 Program (1939-1941), the involuntary euthanasia of disabled Germans, to Operation Reinhard (1942-1943), the extermination of Polish Jews, demonstrates how mass murder evolved into a career path, as each of the men examined served as T4 personnel before transferring to Poland to assume positions as extermination camp …

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) from normal metabolism and environmental exposure may cause oxidative DNA damage. Guanine (G) is the most oxidizable nucleobase. One-electron oxidation (OEO) of G in produces guanine radical cation (G•⁺), which deprotonates to form guanyl radical G(-H)•.This radical exists in two tautomeric forms: G(N1-H)• and G(N2-H)•. Dimerization of guanyl radical yields G-G cross-links (D1/D2); a tautomeric form for dimer formation remains elusive. This study presents the first characterization of G• dimerization products from the OEO of 1-MeGuo in acidic medium. This quantitative study examined academic and demographic predictors of first-year retention and major persistence among traditional first-year and North Carolina community college transfer students enrolled in undergraduate business programs. Guided by Tinto’s 1993 Model of Student Retention and Astin’s 1984 Theory of Student Involvement, the research focused on students who entered two AACSB-accredited institutions within the UNC System during Fall 2021, Fall 2022, and Fall 2023 as traditional first-year students or as transfer students from North Carolina community colleges.

The substantial memory requirements of frontier models creates a significant barrier to entry, centralizing inference. This thesis presents the design and implementation of a distributed inference framework designed to democratize LLMs by leveraging commodity devices. The framework combines the resources of heterogeneous COTS devices into a unified compute pool, enabling the inference of models exceeding a single device's memory capacity. To address the limitations of traditional planning-level cost estimating methods, such as reliance on statewide averages, heavy reliance on engineering judgment, and high levels of inaccuracy, this study developed two data-driven frameworks and corresponding tools. The first framework focused on resurfacing projects and used treatment-specific simple linear regression based on lane miles and geographic location. The second addressed a broader group of construction projects and used multiple linear regression with project length, route type, and right-of-way cost as key predictors. This study aims to prospectively collect harmonized, quantitative, and dimensional psychiatric phenotypes (suicidality, anhedonia, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms) and information on discrimination, stigma, and unfair treatment in up to 27,500 individuals across diverse ancestries and clinical populations for genetic analysis within the NIMH Ancestral Population Network (APN). Five APN projects are participating in the current study (PUMAS-Paisa, PUMAS-NeuroGAP, KOMOGEN-D, LATINO, and SAX-II), spanning recruitment over 15 countries across the Americas, Africa, and Asia. This qualitative narrative study explored the experiences and perspectives of deaf educators and educational interpreters working in high school settings. Participants shared narratives about their professional experiences, training, and roles in deaf education. By considering their professional histories, backgrounds, and cultural perspectives, this study examined how these experiences shaped participants’ perceptions of the current state of deaf education.

Pulsed jet propulsion systems produce inherently unsteady forces whose time-resolved characterization is essential for performance assessment, yet the measured load signal conflates aerodynamic forcing with the dynamic response of the measurement balance itself. This thesis develops a load centered framework for the dynamic characterization of a pulsed jet system, treating the measured load fluctuation as the primary physical observable rather than attempting full true-thrust reconstruction. A single-degree-of-freedom balance model identified through ringdown testing provides the structural reference scale, yielding a natural frequency of 8.5 Hz and damping ratio of 18%. Chemical Reaction Networks (CRNs) is a well-established model for analyzing distributed and concurrent systems. A central problem studied across CRNs is the reachability problem, which asks whether a target configuration can be obtained from a given initial configuration through a sequence of valid transitions. Classical CRNs are highly expressive but not Turing-universal; their reachability problem is Ackermann-complete, indicating extremely high computational complexity that nevertheless falls short of full universality.

The loading conditions experienced by freight railcar bearings vary as a function of vehicle operating conditions. Under static conditions, bearings are primarily subjected to radial loads transmitted through the wheelset. During operation, however, track irregularities, braking events, railcar load imbalances, and curving introduce complex impact, longitudinal, and lateral forces in addition to the normal radial loading. These lateral forces increase friction within the bearing raceways, which could accelerate wear and potentially lead to premature spall initiation and propagation. We designed a multimodal pain management protocol for pediatric ambulatory hernia surgery with the goal of reducing opioid use. This study evaluates the impact of this protocol on opioid use, pain control, and patient/proxy satisfaction. Methods: Our protocol utilized child life services, regional anesthesia, and non-opioid analgesic adjuncts in the perioperative period. Puerulus settlement has proven to be a good forecaster of legal recruitment of Western Rock Lobster entering into the commercial and recreational fisheries. However, in 2011, this relationship broke down, with average puerulus settlement levels not being reflected in commercial catch rates four years later. Some northern areas showed unexpectedly low catch rates, while other southern areas showed unexpectedly high catch rates. Since this change followed the 2011 marine heatwave, it was assumed that this event changed some component(s) which were important to the growth and survival of juvenile lobsters. Throughout its history, the RICO statute has presented lawyers with something of an interpretive parlor game. It is indefinite along multiple dimensions and thereby given multiple interpretations, even down to the word level. In Medical Marijuana v. Horn, the Supreme Court set out to define one of RICO's civil-standing provisions: Namely, whether the statute's "injury to business or property" requirement can be satisfied when a plaintiff suffers both economic and personal injuries. Humic acids, which are comprised of long chained, organic molecules that can be naturally or industrially made, are currently being marketed in this way. Purpose

Nurse-patient communication barriers occur when critically ill patients are sedated, mechanically ventilated, or neurologically impaired. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to implement a structured Patient Preference Card (PPC) to improve nurse–patient communication for non-verbal postoperative patients in an intensive care unit (ICU). The primary aim was to improve nurse-patient communication scores on the Nurse-Patient Communication Scale (NPCS) by at least 20% during a 90-day pilot implementation. A secondary aim was to achieve at least 90% compliance with PPC completion and use across nursing shifts to support consistent communication of patient preferences.
