Hdra-Fusion: Hybrid Detection With Routed Architecture For Manipulation-Aware Ai Face Forgery Detection, Omar Ebeid May 2026

Hdra-Fusion: Hybrid Detection With Routed Architecture For Manipulation-Aware Ai Face Forgery Detection, Omar Ebeid

Theses and Dissertations

With the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence-based image generation and manipulation tools, it is extremely difficult to detect if an image is genuine or artificially crafted. Despite extensive research in this area, existing image detection systems suffer from three major problems: suboptimal cross-dataset generalization due to shortcut learning of dataset-specific patterns, unreliable probability estimates due to domain shift, particularly in cross-manipulation evaluation settings, and an inability to detect images manipulated by multiple types of manipulations within a single detection framework. To address these limitations, we propose HDRA-Fusion (Hybrid Detection with Routed Architecture), a framework built on the conclusion that different …

Faith Under The Führer: Protestant Pastors In Nazi Germany, Katie Cassady May 2026

Faith Under The Führer: Protestant Pastors In Nazi Germany, Katie Cassady

Senior Honors Theses

This research examines Protestant churches in Nazi Germany and their varied reactions to Hitler’s Third Reich, tracing the Nazi rise to power, the Kirchenkampf (Church Struggle), the Confessing Church’s resistance, and figures like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Niemoller, and Karl Barth. Hitler campaigned on a platform purporting to support religious freedom, but the state-sponsored persecution of Christian churches later revealed such promises as a facade. The Kirchenkampf exemplifies the reactions of Protestant German churches to Hitler’s rule: The German Christian Movement (GCM) endorsed Hitler’s radical racial theories, while the Confessing Church confronted the unbiblical rhetoric used by the GCM.

A Machine Learning-Based Apogee Prediction Methodology For Experimental Student Rockets, Price Hamilton Drawdy May 2026

A Machine Learning-Based Apogee Prediction Methodology For Experimental Student Rockets, Price Hamilton Drawdy

Senior Honors Theses

The ability to predict the maximum altitude of a rocket (apogee) in real-time is incredibly useful for collegiate-level competition rockets. This project creates a machine learning-based real-time apogee prediction methodology. Three model types were tested: linear regression, random forest, and a 3-layer multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network. These models were trained on a large dataset of simulated flights. All models performed well on simulated test flights, with the linear regression model showing most promise for use on edge compute. More development and real-world testing are necessary to determine how applicable this method is for real-time operation. Nevertheless, this methodology provides …

Addressing The Problem Of Erotica In Fiction From A Christian Standpoint, Elizabeth Burgess May 2026

Addressing The Problem Of Erotica In Fiction From A Christian Standpoint, Elizabeth Burgess

Senior Honors Theses

The body of erotic content embedded in mainstream literature grows by the day, and based on an investigation of its similarities to pornography—which has many documented negative effects—this content warrants caution before interaction. Christian writers and editors are faced with a multifaceted problem when it comes to erotica: they must weigh the risk of harming consumers by participating in its production, and they must discern whether it aligns with the moral demands of the Christian faith when it comes to sexuality. The analysis of biblical frameworks for sexuality, the present literature documenting the negative effects of pornography, and the purpose …

Preserving Life In An Age Of Autonomy: A Critique Of Physician-Assisted Suicide, Adeline Holcombe May 2026

Preserving Life In An Age Of Autonomy: A Critique Of Physician-Assisted Suicide, Adeline Holcombe

Senior Honors Theses

This thesis critiques physician-assisted suicide (PAS) as a reflection of Western thought’s shift from a biblical sanctity-of-life ethic toward autonomy and relativism. Through analysis of biblical and historical foundations, major cases, and state PAS laws, it argues that legalization weakens the state’s interest in preserving life, normalizes suicide, and exposes vulnerable populations to coercion, inadequate safeguards, and legal expansion. The thesis concludes that PAS laws should be repealed and that palliative care, hospice, and mental health treatment provide more compassionate and ethically sound alternatives.

Re-Formation: Countering Moralistic Therapeutic Deism Among Churched American Youth With Habitual Dependence, Eden J. Wood

Senior Honors Theses

This paper engages with the culture of American youth to discover how American churches can intentionally form teenagers toward love of God rather than self. The diagnostic research for this paper is primarily founded on the National Study of Youth and Religion conducted by a team of sociologists led by Christian Smith. The strategy for interactions with teenagers themselves is taken from Joshua Chatraw and Mark Allen’s Inside Out method of apologetics. The premise of habit formation stems from the works of Charles Duhigg, James K.A. Smith, and Saint Augustine. It is the contention of this paper that liturgical confessional …

The goal of this review is to answer the question: What dietary changes are most effective in restoring gut dysbiosis in healthy adults? The gut microbiome (GM), a community of microorganisms that colonizes in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, can become imbalanced, a condition known as dysbiosis, which is associated with an increased risk of dysbiosis-induced disease. Dysbiosis-induced diseases include GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity (Shen et al., 2025). Pharmacologic interventions are often not …

Aughrim, Out Of Reach: Literacy, Modernity, And The Irish Fate In “The Dead”, Julia Lehman May 2026

Aughrim, Out Of Reach: Literacy, Modernity, And The Irish Fate In “The Dead”, Julia Lehman

Senior Honors Theses

In the early twentieth century, Irish cultural identity faced a crisis. After hundreds of years of oppression under English colonization and the devastating famine of the previous century, Irish cultural identity had been diminished. However, there was a political push to reclaim this identity. James Joyce, famed Irish author, lived through this era and personally struggled with his Irish identity. His short story “The Dead” explores the conflict existing in Irish cultural expression during this era. In this thesis, I address the contrast between literacy and orality which produces themes of cultural alienation and disillusionment in “The Dead.” Gabriel Conroy …

The Trouble Of Energy: Theoretical Foundations Of Loop Quantum Gravity, Hallie Gift May 2026

The Trouble Of Energy: Theoretical Foundations Of Loop Quantum Gravity, Hallie Gift

Senior Honors Theses

While general relativity and quantum mechanics have proved to be successful theories with elegant explanations of special cases, an underlying theory is needed to harmonize their copious discrepancies. Popular theories to reconcile the two are broadly termed “quantum gravity,” which refers to theories that introduce a discretized component of gravity either by directly suggesting gravitational quanta or attempting to discretize spacetime geometry. Loop quantum gravity falls under the latter category; it respects the background independence intrinsic to general relativity while attempting to provide an explanation of underlying quantum behavior via Planck-scale-level geometrical discretization. This thesis aims to provide a primer …

Awe As Signpost: An Argument For The Consistency Of Lewis’S “Joy” And Psychological Awe, Audrey Hendricks May 2026

Awe As Signpost: An Argument For The Consistency Of Lewis’S “Joy” And Psychological Awe, Audrey Hendricks

Senior Honors Theses

C.S. Lewis’s Surprised by Joy details Lewis’s autobiographical apologetic for the existence of God through his experiences of “Joy,” a technical term invented by Lewis. Upon close study, his experiences of Joy contain many similarities to psychological awe. This investigation compares Lewis’s Joy with psychological awe using the Awe Experience Scale (AWE-S) to determine consistency. Lewis’s Joy was found to be consistent with all six criteria of the AWE-S in addition to other recognized psychological characteristics of awe. In addition to qualitative consistency, this review also argues for the teleological consistency of the two concepts, contending for a Christian teleological …

Analyzing The Writing Style Of Generative Ai When Prompted With Writing Samples, Samuel Mcdowell May 2026

Analyzing The Writing Style Of Generative Ai When Prompted With Writing Samples, Samuel Mcdowell

Senior Honors Theses

Authorship attribution is an important topic in today’s world of Large Language Models (LLMs). It is the technology that helps to verify the author of a written work. This study explores whether LLMs can successfully mimic an individual’s writing style if they are given a text sample. A dataset of human-written texts was collected and used to prompt several LLMs to generate new texts that attempt to replicate the original author’s stylistic characteristics. The generated texts were then tested with modern authorship attribution models to determine whether they would be identified as being written by the original author. The results …

Toward An Anthropology Of The Expressive Individual: Reformational Insights Into Emotions, The Heart, And Christian Formation, Isaac Kantola May 2026

Toward An Anthropology Of The Expressive Individual: Reformational Insights Into Emotions, The Heart, And Christian Formation, Isaac Kantola

Senior Honors Theses

Contemporary Western culture is increasingly defined by what theologians and sociologists call “expressive individualism,” driven by an “ethic of authenticity” in which one’s emotions and desires are seen as the primary arbiter of identity and meaning. Responding to this cultural movement, the Church has appropriated the language of desire, happiness, and the affective in its preaching, ministry, and apologetic endeavors. Figures such as John Piper, James K.A. Smith, and Timothy Keller have each, in their own way, sought to contextualize the faith so it may be better understood by a culture obsessed with their longings and therapeutic self-concern. While these …

Political Legacies Of Malcolm X, Sumair Ahluwalia May 2026

Political Legacies Of Malcolm X, Sumair Ahluwalia

Theses

This study explores the ways in which Malcolm X’s legacy has been co-opted by various institutions and actors, including, but not limited to, politicians, historians, the general public, the federal government, and other commentators. As a result of this co-optation, Malcolm’s revolutionary ideals have been diluted or sanitized in the years since his assassination in 1965. Different approaches have been utilized to reframe Malcolm’s legacy, which include associating him with American liberalism, framing his arguments at the end of his life as markedly less radical, and external interference with popular works about Malcolm, including The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Additionally, …

Indiana Bat Population Dynamics In The Midst Of Climate Change And White-Nose Syndrome, Lexie Ann Schwartz

Theses

Climate change and emerging diseases are altering species distributions and ecosystem dynamics worldwide. For temperate insectivorous bats in North America, food availability and winter climate influence hibernation energetics and survival. As climate warming alters insect phenology, these changes are likely to have an impact on hibernating bats. Many cavernicolous bats in North America are also threatened by white-nose syndrome (WNS), a newly emerged fungal disease devastating bat populations. This study examined the distribution of hibernating Indiana bats (Myotis sodalis) over time throughout their range. I used long-term weather data to simulate seasonal insect availability, the spring and autumn transitory periods, …

Programmable Degradation Of Polyethylene Via Amide-Functionalization: A Dual-Path Strategy Combining Palladium-Catalyzed Copolymerization And Enhanced Microbial Breakdown, Safi-Dapetel Balkissou Wouna

Master's Theses

Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most widely used polymers due to its durability, low cost, and chemical stability; however, these same properties contribute to its persistence in the environment. It takes about 1000 years for PE to be degraded by microbes in nature. This study investigates a molecular design strategy to enhance the biodegradability of PE by introducing polar functional groups into its backbone through palladium-catalyzed copolymerization with a Vince lactam-derived comonomer. This strategy was inspired by our previous observation that PHEVD (poly[7-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,4-divinyl-3-oxa-7-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-6,8-dione]), a newly synthesized petroleum derived polymer that is rich of amide group, can be near-completely degraded …

Advancing Sustainable Polymer Chemistry: Designing Recyclable And Degradable Polyolefins Via Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization, Tarek S. Ibrahim

Doctoral Works at the University of New Haven

Polymers have become indispensable materials in modern society. The majority of these materials are synthetic, petroleum-based polymers. Their lightweight nature, durability, and low cost have led to a global production of approximately 400.3 million tons annually by 2022. Due to their exceptional durability, these polymers can persist in the environment for hundreds of years, if not longer. Despite the high production volume, polymer recycling remains extremely limited, with over 90% of waste being landfilled or incinerated. This challenge has directed researchers’ interest toward sustainable, degradable polymers derived from renewable feedstocks. Ringopening metathesis polymerization is marked as a powerful method for …
