Blue Zones are areas of the world where people live longer and healthier lives. These areas share several key characteristics called the Power 9 (Buettner & Skemp, 2016). The goal of this study was to increase general knowledge of Blue Zones as well as the implementation of healthy habits to increase the longevity of the population of Calloway County, Kentucky through educational sessions of elementary students. Researchers involved in this study asked participants to fill out a pre-test to gauge knowledge of Blue Zones. More than 140 experts from universities, government, industry, and community organizations gathered to address the increasing issue of MNPs in coastal regions.

Putting Labour Law To Work: Imperative Of Race Conscious Labour Law, Harshini Arumugam

Dalhousie Law Journal

History shows that race and labour are deeply connected in Canada. For the labour movement to advance racial equality, it must contend with this reality. Through a critical race analysis, this paper examines how race-evasive approaches in labour laws and practices have contributed to systemic racial inequality. It argues that race-conscious strategies are essential for addressing the specific experiences and needs of racialized workers. By leveraging existing legal tools and intentionally incorporating race-conscious approaches into areas such as collective bargaining, the collective agreement, and the duty of fair representation, labour law can be a powerful mechanism for achieving racial justice …

Design Summary

The device is an undercling walker, designed to traverse a hanging rope with the majority of the body underneath the rope and stop before it reaches the end. The walker uses legs, parts 4 and 5, which rotate to provide locomotion. They are powered by a D/C motor mounted on the L-shaped extension of part 1. That motor drives the gear labeled 2, which in turn spins the shaft identified as 3. The shaft then spins the legs. The motor, pressure sensor, and laser range finder are all interfaced with a PIC 16F88, which is used to determine …

Obesity and diabetes are chronic metabolic diseases affecting millions worldwide. Current treatments, including lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery, face challenges like poor adherence and side effects. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are recommended innovative medications for these conditions, with studies showing significant clinical benefits. GLP-1RAs are traditionally delivered orally or via subcutaneous injections, but these methods have limitations, including low bioavailability, poor solubility, the need for high doses, gastrointestinal side effects, and frequent dosing requirements. Novel delivery technologies offer promising strategies to overcome these challenges and enhance therapeutic effectiveness. Background: Renal denervation (RDN) has re-emerged as an adjunctive therapy for resistant hypertension following recent FDA approvals of ultrasound- and radiofrequency-based systems. While contemporary randomized trials report a favorable safety profile, real-world post-marketing data may capture a broader spectrum of complications. Methods: We queried the FDA Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) database from inception through December 22, 2025, using product code ‘QYI’ and brand names ‘Paradise’ (Recor Medical) and ‘Symplicity Spyral’ (Medtronic). Reports describing RDN procedures for resistant hypertension were included. Events were manually reviewed and categorized as vascular, device-related, hemodynamic/arrhythmic, neurologic, or other. In my dissertation, I study credit access in diverse urban communities, the role of the financial institutions that serve them, such as Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) and non-MDIs. The first chapter studies the effect of bank branch closures (both MDIs and non-MDIs) on credit access in these diverse urban communities. MDIs are US community banks that are owned and operated by minority populations, such as Black-owned, Asian-owned, Hispanic-owned banks or Native-owned banks. The second chapter studies the proximity of Black-owned banks to historically segregated urban neighborhoods. More specifically I study whether surviving Black-owned banks are more likely to be present …

Beyond Challenging Up: How Organizational Climate Shapes Externally-Oriented Courage In The Workplace, Morgan Chandler

Employees often face situations that confront them with the decision to do the right thing at work despite risk, which requires courage. This dissertation introduces a new form of workplace courage: challenging-around, which, in the context of the present study, involves pushing back against external stakeholders to uphold issues like ethical standards, organizational integrity, or professional judgement. Guided by Worthwhile Risk Theory, the study examined how organizational climate and moral courage influence this behavior. Results show that supportive, goal-promoting climates increase challenging-around, while moral courage independently predicts challenging-around. Additionally, the study validates a researcher-developed measure of challenging-around. Overall, findings suggest …

The rise in antibiotic-resistant pathogens poses a threat to the poultry industry's ability to maintain animal health, prompting growing interest in alternatives to synthetic antibiotics. The use of non-tannin sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] in poultry rations offers a valuable alternative, as this cereal grain has a high bioactive profile that can provide health benefits, including antimicrobial (AM) activity. The scope of this study was to examine the AM potential of non-tannin sorghum grain against Clostridium perfringens, a major foodborne pathogen that negatively impacts poultry health and production. This dissertation explores the arithmetic of numerous algebraic objects living within an algebraic number field from submonoids of the integers up to localizations of the ring of integers. We begin with a study of factorization in proper orders using an element-theoretic approach. In Chapter 2, by defining a natural generalization of the Davenport constant, we are able to determine the elasticity of certain orders whose integral closure is a unique factorization domain. In Chapter 3, using ideal-theoretic analogues, we are able to significantly broaden the scope of our results and the literature on factorization in orders. In particular, we give …

The project presents the design, fabrication, and implementation of a PCB test bench that interfaces with a custom VLSI chip designed to emulate the neural activity of a Central Pattern Generator (CPG). The test bench provides a precise and reliable platform for supporting signal operations and validating neuromorphic functionality. The design integrates both analog and digital circuitry to provide stable biasing, signal routing, and measurement access for chip characterization. The incorporation of op-amp buffers and adjustable potentiometers enables precise voltage tuning, resulting in controlled neuron-like behavior within the custom IC. Substance use during adolescence remains a significant public health concern, particularly within Latino communities where cultural values, family dynamics, and communication patterns play a central role in youth development. This qualitative study explored how Latino parents communicate with their adolescent children about substance use, the strategies they use for prevention, and the cultural and contextual factors that shape these conversations. Using a focus group design, data was collected from four focus groups consisting of two groups of Latino mothers (n = 10) and two groups of Latino fathers (n = 9). A thematic analysis revealed six primary themes: (1) parent–child …

Beginning in the 1930s, Congress enacted a series of statutes granting presidents the authority to initiate reorganizations of the administrative state. Under these reorganization statutes, the president determined any necessary changes in agency organization and submitted a reorganization proposal to Congress, which could approve or reject the plan. Over the next fifty years, the president and Congress worked cooperatively to promote the effective and efficient functioning of the administrative state.

Despite the successful reorganization initiatives undertaken pursuant to these statutes, Congress has not conferred reorganization authority on any president in the last four decades. As a result, the organization of …
