Limonitic laterites typically contain low Ni and Co contents and significant impurities, making the development of technical and economically feasible processes challenging. To address this challenge, this study investigates and evaluates an integrated hydrometallurgical process comprising sulfation roasting, water leaching, and solvent extraction (SX) for the selective recovery of Ni and Co from limonite-type laterite. Response Surface Methodology coupled with a Central Composite Design (RSM-CCD) was employed as a statistical experimental design tool to efficiently optimize the sulfation roasting conditions. This study explores how professional development (PD) and leadership systems influence teacher agency and instructional coherence at a high-poverty, predominantly Black K–8 school in Chicago. Midwest Elementary Academy has faced persistent achievement gaps and systemic instability that hinder collaboration and teacher growth. Guided by three research questions, this exploratory case study used a mixed-methods design to examine educator perceptions of PD quality, instructional autonomy, and leadership structures. Data were collected through anonymous surveys, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document reviews with four educator participants. The problem addressed in this study was the limited mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies for daily retail transactions despite continued technological advancement and increasing institutional interest. The purpose of this qualitative study, grounded in Husserlian descriptive phenomenology, was to explore the perceptual and behavioral factors influencing this adoption gap. Participants were recruited using snowball sampling, resulting in eight participants divided into two cohorts: active cryptocurrency payment users (Cohort 1, n = 2) and cryptocurrency holders who did not use cryptocurrencies for payments (Cohort 2, n = 6). This paper examines the relationship between perceived fiscal exchange (PFE) and Tax Compliance (TCO) among large corporate taxpayers in Tanzania while drawing on the Fiscal Exchange Theory (FET). The study on which this paper is based employed a quantitative research design and analysed data using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with a sample of 215 large corporate taxpayers in Tanzania. We find that the FET framework has modest explanatory and predictive power. Perceived Fiscal Exchange (PFE) has an insignificant effect on tax compliance of large corporate taxpayers. Abstract: Purpose Treatment of infant perianal abscesses (IPA) remains controversial, with ongoing debate between operative and non-operative management. Recurrence is common and prospective data to guide care are lacking. We performed the first multi-institutional prospective quality improvement (QI) study comparing non-operative to operative IPA management. Methods The primary endpoint was time to complete abscess resolution. Secondary endpoints included surgical intervention (incision and drainage ± fistulotomy) and abscess recurrence. Institutions were recruited through a national research collaborative. IRB approval was obtained individually. Between 2022 and 2025, we prospectively enrolled patients < 1 year of age with an abscess ≤2 cm from the anal verge. Patients with predisposing conditions (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease) were excluded. Management was determined by the treating provider, with either upfront surgical intervention (control group) or non-operative care per our QI protocol (protocol group, Figure 1). Data were collected on management prior to surgical evaluation, presentation, subsequent treatment and outcomes. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA, with p < 0.05 considered significant. Endpoints were compared between groups by non-parametric methods, with denominators based on available data. Results Fourteen institutions participated across the U.S., with a total of 288 patients (108 control, 180 protocol) enrolled. Median follow-up was 0.99 (interquartile range 0.23-3.93) and 1 (0.16-4.56) months for control and protocol groups. Abscess resolution occurred in 155 patients during follow-up (36/71 (51%) control, 119/134 (89%) protocol, p < 0.01). Median time to abscess resolution was 1.21 (0.33-4) and 1.13 (0.57-3.83) months for control and protocol groups (p=0.64). Recurrences were frequent in both cohorts (34/93 (37%) control, 62/153 (41%) protocol). Surgical intervention was significantly more common in the control group: incision and drainage were performed in 61/107 (57%) versus 19/166 (11%) and exam under anesthesia with fistulotomy in 31/106 (29%) versus 20/166 (12%) (both p< 0.01). Conclusions Time to abscess resolution was similar between patients treated with upfront surgical intervention and non-operative management according to our QI protocol. Significantly more patients underwent surgical intervention in the control group, without an impact on time to resolution. Our data support initial non-operative management of infant perianal abscesses, emphasizing antibiotics at initial presentation, sitz baths and family reassurance. In this paper, we concentrate on one of the aspects of the effect of environment on fracture in a composite lamina. The paper demonstrates an analytical approach to account for the effect of the changes in environment on the strain energy release rate of composite materials and thin films. These analytically determined strain energy release rates should be compared to fracture toughness to predict the susceptibility of the material to fracture. This approach is particularly useful for industrial networks involving geographically distributed plants, contract manufacturing partners, and multi-site production systems where data sovereignty and avoidance of raw data sharing are critical. This work presents a machine-vision–based measurement and control framework for laser wire directed energy deposition (LWDED) processes. A visible-light camera system is used to capture meltpool images, from which a novel vision algorithm extracts the wire–meltpool interface location. By utilizing a camera that is rigidly mounted to the deposition head, the vision algorithm provides a relative measurement of the distance between the nozzle tip and the workpiece, also referred to as wire stickout. A proportional-derivative (PD) control strategy is implemented using the measured stickout as feedback to adjust deposition feedrate. The morphologic characteristics of placentas associated with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) have been described but with varying findings. Studies conducted at the onset of the pandemic reported frequency of Fetal Vascular Malperfusion (FVM), an umbrella term that describes occlusive vasculopathies that affect fetal circulation and their associated sequelae. Morphologic manifestations include thrombosis, avascular villi and vascular stromal karyorrhexis. Associated outcomes include fetal growth restriction, thromboembolic events such as neonatal stroke and fetal demise. Background One in ten newborns in sub-Saharan Africa weigh < 2500 g (i.e. low birthweight [LBW]). Breastfeeding difficulties from birth are common among LBW infants. This study explored the use of trained peer mothers to deliver breastfeeding support to mothers of LBW infants in healthcare facilities in rural Kenya.

Methods Five trained peer mothers provided breastfeeding support to 23 mothers of LBW infants across eight healthcare facilities in Homa Bay County. Qualitative, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 mothers, 10 healthcare providers and 5 peer mothers prior to and during the breastfeeding support intervention. Inductive thematic analysis was used.

Results Three key themes were discovered: mothers valued the confidence the peer mothers gave them to breastfeed their LBW infants, peer mothers found that the training and their previous experience caring for LBW infants enabled them to work collaboratively with mothers …

Methods We narratively synthesized advances from 2013 to 2026 across central nervous system (CNS) discovery and development, including pivotal trials, regulatory actions, digital/real-world evidence, genetics, artificial intelligence (AI), and implementation/global-access themes that are endorsed by international societies.

Noise exposure among construction workers is a pervasive occupational hazard with serious implications for long-term hearing health and overall well-being. This literature review examines the extent of noise exposures in the construction industry and the long-standing need for implementation of effective hearing conservation programs (HCPs). It synthesizes current evidence on exposure levels, health outcomes, and the effectiveness of existing interventions. Findings reveal that construction workers are routinely exposed to noise levels that exceed occupational safety standards, resulting in a heightened risk of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and associated health consequences. Based on observation, personal interaction, and informal interviews/linguistic judgements, this thesis presents the unique and asymmetrical grammaticality patterns of the terms Girl and Miss Girl. To account for these asymmetries, I provide a syntactic framework rooted in Minimalism and Rizzi’s (1997) expanded CP hypothesis, alongside a pragmatic explanation based on Barros and Frank’s (2023) attentional maintenance and attentional shift paradigm.

This thesis investigates the "Southampton Plot" of 1415, a famous conspiracy to overthrow King Henry V of England. While history often portrays the plotters as simple traitors against the government, this study reexamines original records to show a more complex story. By looking closely at how the English government handled the trials, the research reveals that the English Crown may have exaggerated the threat to strengthen the King’s political power before he invaded France. Increased concentrations of neuroblastoma suppressor of tumorigenicity 1 (NBL1) in the blood have been associated with disease progression in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and IgA nephropathy. However, it is unclear whether NBL1 is a causal factor for kidney disease and what is driving these increased concentrations in the blood. To test this, we evaluated Nbl1 heterozygous knockout (Nbl1^+/−) mice in two models of kidney injury, X-linked Alport syndrome (XLAS) and chronic low-dose cisplatin treatment, and compared them with wild-type (WT) controls.
