A challenge of studying mammalian cardiac embryogenesis is the limited ability to perform experimental manipulations in animal models. The avian embryo is widely accepted as a model for mammalian heart developmental studies. In this study, we establish the methodology and protocols for studying the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) heart at embryonic day 10 (HH38) using the FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo 3100 ultrasound system equipped with a MX550D small animal cardiology transducer. In addition, it requires high sensorimotor awareness and strong coordination between leg, arm, and eye movements. The agrifood sector faces well-documented barriers to climate-smart agriculture (CSA) adoption, reflecting systematic difficulty identifying where digital tools address specific stakeholder needs rather than a technology shortage. This paper presents a prescriptive framework for mapping digital innovation opportunities in complex, multi-stakeholder agrifood systems. Grounded in Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD) theory and structured as a two-dimensional matrix of meta-jobs and value chain segments, the framework was developed through a design science research (DSR) paradigm evaluated on utility, coherence, and actionability. Construction involved a purposive synthesis of three literature streams and iterative refinement through 136 stakeholder engagements within a six-month university-affiliated startup studio cycle. …

Background: Discrimination is a psychosocial stressor that, through activation of stress-response pathways, may influence risk of adverse perinatal health outcomes. However, few studies have evaluated the association between discrimination and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and none have explored effect modification by race or paternal support, which may buffer the adverse effects of discrimination.

Methods: We included 1,847 non-Hispanic Black and White participants from the Maternal and Infant Environmental Health Riskscape (MIEHR) study. Krieger's validated Experiences of Discrimination (EOD) scale was used to assess occurrence (yes/no) and frequency (once, 2-3, ≥ 4 times) of discrimination in nine situations. We created …

Movement disorder diagnosis often relies on expert evaluation of patient videos, but sharing these videos poses privacy risks. Current methods for de-identifying videos, such as blurring faces, are often manual, inconsistent, or inaccurate. Furthermore, these methods can compromise automated kinematics extraction-a valuable aid to movement analysis. To address these challenges, we developed SecurePose, open-source software that provides both reliable de-identification and automated body kinematic extraction from videos recorded in clinic settings using smartphones/tablets. Anomalous Voting Patterns In The Rural South, Michael Herscovici

This project analyzes community-level voting patterns in the rural American South to identify and better understand communities that defy longstanding patterns of race-based voter polarization. Specifically, this project uses advanced statistical methods as well as an in-depth ethnography in order to understand the relationships between ideology and identity in predominately Black communities that vote more Republican than other communities with similar Black populations. I argue that these Republican-leaning Black communities are the result of low-propensity voters shifting towards the GOP and defying traditional political socialization patterns in Black communities. Human land use can influence bird and arthropod diversity as they change food availability, create edge effects between forest patches and developed land, and impact habitat composition. Many studies have been done to understand the impact of anthropogenic disturbance on bird and arthropod diversity showing forest-dependent species decreasing and generalist species increasing as forest composition changes. The purpose of this research is twofold: producing a genre critique of paranormal investigation literature and critically engaging further with its rhetorical strategies through a case study of the ghosts of Tappan Square. The genre is established in a survey of texts from varying disciplines and degrees of veracity, ranging from literary journalism to American Gothic fiction to parapsychology. These disparate works are linked by their dual disenchantment and re-enchantment of reality in the act of both locating ghosts and working to understand them. In this paper, I offer an interpretation of Kendall Walton’s framework of art appreciation in Categories of Art. According to Walton, in order to appreciate an artwork, we must perceive it as belonging to some artistic ‘category’, because categorization determines which features of an object are aesthetically relevant. Different categorizations of the same object, then, can produce different artworks. I’ll argue for a bipartite analysis, where the intended categories of an art object can come apart from the categories through which the object is the most aesthetically valuable work, and that which way of categorizing is ‘correct’ depends on our …
