Molecular Insights Of Paraoxonase 2 In Advanced Glycation End Product Induced Endothelial Dysfunction, Ramya R Apr 2024

Molecular Insights Of Paraoxonase 2 In Advanced Glycation End Product Induced Endothelial Dysfunction, Ramya R

Theses and Dissertations

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder associated with various vascular complications and affects the function of the endothelial cells. Elevated blood glucose levels accelerate the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) by Amadori rearrangement and bind to their Receptor for the advanced glycation end product (RAGE) and evoke release of key pro-inflammatory cytokine proteins leading to endothelial dysfunction. Paraoxonase 2 (PON2) is an endogenous intracellular enzyme, localised in mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and nuclear membrane with numerous properties, like anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidant.

Our present study aims to ascertain the effect of AGEs on PON2 activity and expression, …

High School Acceleration And First-Year College Student Success: Do Advanced Placement Or Dual Enrollment Influence College Persistence Differently, Serge W. Desir Jr. Apr 2024

High School Acceleration And First-Year College Student Success: Do Advanced Placement Or Dual Enrollment Influence College Persistence Differently, Serge W. Desir Jr.

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The proliferation of Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment taken by high school students expanded over the past few decades due concerted efforts to make the accelerated mechanisms more available to historically underrepresented groups and to reduce the cost of higher education. Supported by years of research correlating improved first-year college performance to enrollment in such programs, AP and Dual Enrollment also allow students to earn college credit prior to enrolling at post-secondary institutions, further enhanced their appeal. Despite this enhanced popularity, little research has been done on whether there are any indications of different academic outcomes by the accelerated …

The Immune Contribution To Postpartum Remodeling, Jessica Caroline Ming Apr 2024

The Immune Contribution To Postpartum Remodeling, Jessica Caroline Ming

Master's Theses

Following parturition, the uterus must undergo significant changes in size and structure through a process called postpartum remodeling. This process is known to have both pro- and anti- inflammatory components. However, how various immune cells contribute to remodeling and the pathways that promote inflammation are not well understood. We hypothesize that immune cells that infiltrate the uterus postpartum modulate inflammation to promote postpartum remodeling. Our preliminary data suggests that inflammatory cell death may contribute to the inflammation present in the early postpartum period, and thus further studies will analyze caspase-1, gasdermin D, and IL-1β and IL-18. To analyze the immune …

Mandatory Credit Allocation And Government Guarantee In The Philippines, Luis F. Dumlao Apr 2024

Mandatory Credit Allocation And Government Guarantee In The Philippines, Luis F. Dumlao

Economics Department Faculty Publications

Mandatory credit allocation is a policy intervention to pressure banks to lend to certain sectors that otherwise unfettered finance would not give access to. While some would argue that mandatory credit allocation results in sub-optimal allocation of resources, it has been shown that such intervention results is socially desirable outcome. However, mandatory credit allocation should not be the responsibility of banks only, it must be supported with government guarantees. In the Philippines, there are three sectors in which mandatory credit allocation is given namely the agriculture sector, the micro, small and medium enterprises or MSME sector, and enterprises involved in …

A Developmental Exploration Of The Role Of Catp-6 Gene In Model Organism C. Elegans Relating To Parkinson’S Disease, Kaiser Kate Weafer Apr 2024

A Developmental Exploration Of The Role Of Catp-6 Gene In Model Organism C. Elegans Relating To Parkinson’S Disease, Kaiser Kate Weafer

Undergraduate Theses

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered a common and complex neurogenerative disease characterized by the complete loss of dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra pars compacta. With the incomplete understanding of this neurological disorder, Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans), a microscopic nematode, could serve as a model organism of study due to specific gene analogs, relating to PD, present in both C. elegans and humans. The gene of interest for this project is catp-6 in C. elegans an ortholog of the human ATP132A gene. Mutations in the ATP132A gene correlate with an abnormal form of early onset PD called Kufor-Rakeb Syndrome, …

A Holy Decline, Destiny Ervins

Nonprofit and NGO Studies Student Projects

Christian churches have been a visible contributor to American religion for centuries. However, there has been a noticeable decline in Christian church membership attendance rates. A survey at a small church called Mt. Ebal was conducted to further analyze this topic. The survey was short and concise and rendered around 30 responses. Around 50% of respondents said there had been a decrease in membership attendance. The other 50% consisted of those that said there was an increase, those that said there was no change, and those that were not able to judge based off their less than 10-year membership. The …

The use of a creative placemaking approach provides the possibility of expanding urban renewal methodologies that can capture the dynamic needs and demands of society. The case study used in this research is The Hallway Space Bandung. This research uses qualitative methods with a creative placemaking theoretical framework. Data collection was done by semi-structured interviews and field observations; …

In Search Of Rules For Creative Design Process, Kristanti Dewi Paramita Apr 2024

In Search Of Rules For Creative Design Process, Kristanti Dewi Paramita

ARSNET

Architecture is driven by a set of rules which governs design actions and practices; which vary depending on the expected design objectives and intentions. The collection of articles in this ARSNET issue provides different perspectives that revisit the manifestation of rules in the design process. This edition highlights how rules do not only apply to form-making in the quest for beauty, nor it is limited to the social and cultural constraints that create a rather fixed and limited design manoeuvre. Through this issue's investigation of rules in design pedagogy and practice across contexts, some new objectives of rules in design …

Rethinking Modularity As Contextual Design Thinking, Bramasta Putra Redyantanu, Rony Gunawan Sunaryo Apr 2024

Rethinking Modularity As Contextual Design Thinking, Bramasta Putra Redyantanu, Rony Gunawan Sunaryo

ARSNET

This study aims to reflect and expand the notion of modularity in architectural design methods. The discussion about modular architecture is certainly familiar across architectural discourse; where its universality has been repeatedly challenged by the post-modern movement. The study aims to unpack and rethink the method and significance of modularity, not only as a means of repetition but as a contextual design response. The study generate reflection towards two lodge architecture design projects. The architecture of lodge provides complexities with regard to various programmatic needs, temporal occupation, quick construction processes, and often deep connection to the surrounding environment. This study …

The Effectiveness Of A Meaning Guidance Program On The Self-Efficacy Of Fencing Players, Adhima Abbas Ali Al-Sultani Apr 2024

The Effectiveness Of A Meaning Guidance Program On The Self-Efficacy Of Fencing Players, Adhima Abbas Ali Al-Sultani

Modern Sport

The kinetic performance of a fencing player does not depend only on the physical, skill, and tactical aspects, but rather depends on his ability to use his mind or thinking by achieving a balance between those aspects and the psychological aspect, and then his ability to achieve harmony between the self-efficacy represented, which prompted the researcher to develop a guidance program in this sense and this type. Guidance seeks to make the mentor aware of his commitment and responsibilities while leaving him the freedom to make decisions regarding his perception of himself as a person capable of taking responsibility. Given …
