Awareness, Attitudes, And Beliefs Of Dementia In Indonesia, Nicolas Farina, Esra Hassan, Imelda Theresia, Fasihah Irfani Fitri, Ika Suswanti, Tara Puspitarini Sani, Sara Evans-Lacko, Sube Banerjee, Yuda Turana

Peninsula Medical School

INTRODUCTION: Tackling dementia stigma is a policy priority. In Indonesia, we have little insight into the general public's knowledge and attitudes about dementia. METHODS: Cross-sectional study of 4430 Indonesian adults recruited from Jakarta and North Sumatra, Indonesia. Measures included dementia knowledge and attitudes. RESULTS: A total of 86.3% (n = 3,803) of adults had not heard of the terms dementia or Alzheimer's disease, and commonly viewed dementia as a normal part of aging. Being older, incorrect knowledge about etiology, not having heard of the terms dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease, having less than primary education, and being from North Sumatra were …

OBJECTIVE: Same-day discharge Total Ankle Arthroplasty (TAA) is becoming more common. This study sought to report the percentage of patients within a national database that had a same-day discharge following TAA, and to compare the complication rates for patients that had same-day discharge to those that had a short hospital stay. METHODS: From 2012-2021, the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) database was used to identify all patients undergoing TAA. All patients discharged to their home on the day of surgery were identified. A comparison cohort of patients with a hospital stay of 1 to 2 days who were then …

Complex Dayside Particle Precipitation Observed During The Passage Of A Solar Wind Rotational Discontinuity, Simon Wing, Jean Berchem, C Philippe Escoubet, Charles J. Farrugia Apr 2024

Complex Dayside Particle Precipitation Observed During The Passage Of A Solar Wind Rotational Discontinuity, Simon Wing, Jean Berchem, C Philippe Escoubet, Charles J. Farrugia

Faculty Publications

The dayside particle precipitation during the passage of a solar wind rotational discontinuity (RD) event on 10 April 2015 is examined and reviewed. The RD leads to complex structures at the magnetopause, boundary layer, mantle, and cusp even though the geomagnetic activity level remains low. Particle precipitation data from DMSP F17 reveal the formation of an unusual boundary layer where the low energy (cold) ions exhibit energy-latitude dispersion that is usually associated with mantle while the high energy (hot) ions look like typical magnetospheric ions. DMSP F17 and F19 observe a double cusp that is a signature of magnetic reconnection …

Heterogeneity And Plasticity Of The Naïve Cd4+ T Cell Compartment, Alia Sajani

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Recent studies have illuminated unexpected heterogeneity in the naïve T cell compartment. Using single cell RNA sequencing of mouse naïve CD4+ T cells, we identified 5 unique transcriptional subsets within the naïve CD4+ T cell compartment. These include a quiescence cluster (TQ) marked by Klf2, Klf6, Jun and Btg2, a memory-like cluster (TMEM) marked by Ccr7, Il7r and Tcf7, a TCR reactive cluster (TTCR) marked by Cd5, Cd6 and Nr4a1, an IFN responsive cluster (TIFN) marked by Stat1, Irf7 and Ifit1 and …

A Digital Twin Of The Infant Microbiome To Predict Neurodevelopmental Deficits., Nicholas Sizemore, Kaitlyn Oliphant, Ruolin Zheng, Camilia R Martin, Erika C Claud, Ishanu Chattopadhyay

Internal Medicine Faculty Publications

Despite the recognized gut-brain axis link, natural variations in microbial profiles between patients hinder definition of normal abundance ranges, confounding the impact of dysbiosis on infant neurodevelopment. We infer a digital twin of the infant microbiome, forecasting ecosystem trajectories from a few initial observations. Using 16S ribosomal RNA profiles from 88 preterm infants (398 fecal samples and 32,942 abundance estimates for 91 microbial classes), the model (Q-net) predicts abundance dynamics with R2 = 0.69. Contrasting the fit to Q-nets of typical versus suboptimal development, we can reliably estimate individual deficit risk (Mδ) and identify infants …

Igniting Resilience During Critical Times: Reflections Of Women Superintendents, Janice L. Taylor, Sharon Ross, Kathryn Washington, Kelly A. Brown

School Leadership Review

This qualitative study sought to explore the perceptions of women school superintendents in K -12 public schools in Texas about the challenges they face as leaders and how they endure these impactful challenges, particularly during critical times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Using Polidore’s Resilience Theory (2004) as the theoretical framework, the study sought to determine which of the nine resilience qualities, either innately possessed or through acquisition over time, helped to sustain the women superintendents during adverse situations associated with the highest level of leadership in a school district. The nine qualities of resilience include: religion, flexible locus of …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous neoplasms that arise from the uterus affecting over 75% of women. However, there is a disparity with Black women having an increased prevalence of nearly 80%. Black women also experience increased symptom burden, including younger age at the time of diagnosis and increased number and volume of fibroids. Less is known about other ethnoracially diverse women such as Latinas and the potential cultural impacts on fibroid burden and treatment.

METHODS: Community engagement studios were conducted to facilitate discussions with stakeholders on their uterine fibroid and menstruation experience. We recruited Black women (n = 6) diagnosed …

Exploring Entrepreneurial Intention And Subjective Beliefs: A Comparative Analysis Of General Education Schools And Commercial Schools, Julia Riess, Bettina Fuhrmann, Gerhard Geissler

International Journal for Business Education

This study examines the entrepreneurial intentions of Austrian secondary school students, specifically comparing students from commercial schools with those from general education schools. We analyzed 2,329 data sets and found that subjective beliefs, primarily behavioral and control beliefs, significantly influence entrepreneurial intentions. In addition, demographic factors such as gender, language, acquaintance with entrepreneurs, and school type play a significant role in explaining the variance in entrepreneurial intentions.

Our detailed analysis shows that students from commercial schools have stronger entrepreneurial intentions and subjective beliefs. Particularly notable are the differences in behavioral beliefs, where students from commercial schools find all aspects of …

Collapsing Education And Teacher Rights In South Korea: Exploring Korean Teacher, Student, And Parent Relationships, Briyanna Moore Apr 2024

Collapsing Education And Teacher Rights In South Korea: Exploring Korean Teacher, Student, And Parent Relationships, Briyanna Moore

Honors Projects

South Korea has one of the best education systems, as Korean students tend to excel in multiple academic areas in comparison to the national averages of other countries (WENR, 2018). However, due to the high academic and societal pressures placed on Korean students to succeed in school, South Korean teachers have become increasingly overwhelmed with handling parent and student demands. Due to the updated Korean Child Welfare Act (2014), Korean teachers now face claims of child abuse from parents either for reprimanding students who were initially combative in class, or for denying parents’ request for after school extracurricular services for …
