Utah Hydroponic Solutions, Bruce Bugbee, Noah Langenfeld Apr 2024

Utah Hydroponic Solutions, Bruce Bugbee, Noah Langenfeld

Nutrients

The Utah Hydroponic solutions for monocots and dicots have been developed and refined using mass balance principles coupled with tissue analysis from studies in 25-cm deep, continuously aerated, liquid hydroponics where there is no absorption or desorption with media.

These solutions provide guidelines for irrigation of soilless substrates, but adjustments may need to be made to account for the significant cation exchange capacity and thus nutrient absorption and desorption with the substrates.

These recipes were developed for greenhouse conditions with ambient CO2 and about 40% humidity. This results in a water use efficiency of about 3 grams per Liter. …

University Libraries Blog Archive

As I began processing the Bing Davis Papers three and a half months ago, I was struck by the abundance of duplicates within the collection. Initially perplexing, these duplicates soon revealed themselves as a testament to Davis' unwavering commitment to teaching and sharing the arts with all.

Improving Parent And Daycare Staff Confidence In Monitoring Developmental Milestones Through Education Of Pediatric Development, Reagin Hunter

Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctorate - Doctoral Capstone Symposium

The most effective approach to identifying developmental delays involves a combination of developmental monitoring by all caregivers involved in the child’s life, ongoing communication among caregivers, and the administration of formal developmental screenings. This quality improvement capstone project focused on enhancing the education and resources available to daycare teachers regarding developmental milestones, recognizing red flags in development, communicating with parents, and determining appropriate next steps if milestones are missed or therapy services are required. A resource binder was created for each daycare classroom alongside a presentation given to educate staff on developmental topics by age. Evaluation of daycare staff perception …

Partisanship Creep, Katherine Shaw Apr 2024

Partisanship Creep, Katherine Shaw

Northwestern University Law Review

It was once well settled and uncontroversial—reflected in legislative enactments, Executive Branch practice, judicial doctrine, and the broader constitutional culture—that the Constitution imposed limits on government partisanship. This principle was one instantiation of a broader set of rule of law principles: that law is not merely an instrument of political power; that government resources should not be used to further partisan interests, or to damage partisan adversaries.

For at least a century, each branch of the federal government has participated in the development and articulation of this nonpartisanship principle. In the legislative realm, federal statutes beginning with the 1883 Pendleton …

The Impossibility Of Corporate Political Ideology: Upholding Sec Climate Disclosures Against Compelled Commercial Speech Challenges, Erin Murphy Apr 2024

The Impossibility Of Corporate Political Ideology: Upholding Sec Climate Disclosures Against Compelled Commercial Speech Challenges, Erin Murphy

Northwestern University Law Review

To address the increasingly dire climate crisis, the SEC will require public companies to reveal their business’s environmental impact to the market through climate disclosures. Businesses and states challenged the required disclosures as compelled, politically motivated speech that risks putting First Amendment doctrine into further jeopardy. In the past five years, the U.S. Supreme Court has demonstrated an increased propensity to hear compelled speech cases and rule in favor of litigants claiming First Amendment protection from disclosing information that they disagree with or believe to be a politically charged topic. Dissenting liberal Justices have decried these practices as “weaponizing the …

Really, Erma Made Me Do It, Robin Raniero Norris

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

I am a woman who has officially sunk into the belly of midlife. There are a lot of firsts going on for me, but the one I fight the most is my need to use reading glasses. I own “a” pair and when I can’t locate them, I try to fudge the universe a bit. But sometimes, the world laughs back at me and my feeble attempts to see unaided.

Optimization Of A Push Notification System To Improve First Case Delays: A Quality Improvement Project, Chelsea Secondino, Samantha Tortora Apr 2024

Optimization Of A Push Notification System To Improve First Case Delays: A Quality Improvement Project, Chelsea Secondino, Samantha Tortora

DNP Projects

Background

Delayed first case on time starts (FCOTS) in the operating room (OR) have a trickle-down effect throughout the day leading to wasted resources, patient dissatisfaction, and healthcare staff stress and burnout. In the local practice setting the mean FCOTS was 65%, well below the national target of 83%. Surgeons being late and missing electronic health record documentation were the most common reasons for delays. A push notification system had been implemented to improve FCOTS however few surgeons and nurses were using this technology.

Project Goals

  1. Develop a process and training for a push notification system for surgeons and nurses. …

Increasing Safety In Electric Scooter Users, Hyrum Prestwich, Blaine Winters, Daphne Thomas, Sheri Tesseyman, Michael Robinson

Student Works

Background: Electric scooters (e-scooters) have become a common form of transportation for many people in recent years. As e-scooter use has increased, so have injuries associated with accidents. Safety measures must be implemented and shared with communities to increase safe behavior and prevent injuries. This project aimed to increase safe e-scooter behaviors among Brigham Young University (BYU) students. Methods: We created a brief safety video focusing on behaviors associated with e-scooter injury prevention. A convenience sample of BYU students participated in the online survey and safety video. A pre-and post-survey was used to assess demographics, previous e-scooter use, intention …

Exploring The Occupational Socialization Of Ethnically Diverse Physical Education Teachers, Martin Vasquez

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

The first manuscript incorporates the theoretical frameworks of Critical Race Theory and Occupational Socialization Theory to offer Critical Race Socialization Theory as a conceptual framework to expand the importance of how we make meaning of race throughout teacher socialization. This framework emphasizes three critical race tenets - counter-storytelling, intersectionality, and challenging color blindness – that are applied across the stages of acculturation, professional socialization, and organizational socialization. This application highlights the unique challenges faced by diverse educators within different educational spaces. The second manuscript is a collective case study that explores the acculturation and professional socialization experiences of two ethnically …
