Adaptability Of A Vertical Transfer Student, Dylan Barron Apr 2024

Adaptability Of A Vertical Transfer Student, Dylan Barron

Masters Projects

Due to the growing population of transfer students, institutions need to prepare the proper resources to mitigate the feeling of transfer shock. This project explores literature pertaining to transfer students and what resources are offered that can either make this transition smooth or rough. Creating a day-long orientation to promote the resources that different offices offer, as well as providing peer mentors to share their knowledge of the institution. To ensure thorough assessment of the acquired knowledge of transfer students in this program and to determine any necessary program adjustments, surveys are conducted.

Quantum Search Algorithms For Constraint Satisfaction And Optimization Problems Using Grover's Search And Quantum Walk Algorithms With Advanced Oracle Design, Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan Alasow Apr 2024

Quantum Search Algorithms For Constraint Satisfaction And Optimization Problems Using Grover's Search And Quantum Walk Algorithms With Advanced Oracle Design, Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan Alasow

Dissertations and Theses

The field of quantum computing has emerged as a powerful tool for solving and optimizing combinatorial optimization problems. To solve many real-world problems with many variables and possible solutions for constraint satisfaction and optimization problems, the required number of qubits of scalable hardware for quantum computing is the bottleneck in the current generation of quantum computers. In this dissertation, we will demonstrate advanced, scalable building blocks for the quantum search algorithms that have been implemented in Grover's search algorithm and the quantum walk algorithm. The scalable building blocks are used to reduce the required number of qubits in the design. …

Adaptive Sampling For Seabed Identification From Ambient Acoustic Noise, Matthew Sullivan Apr 2024

Adaptive Sampling For Seabed Identification From Ambient Acoustic Noise, Matthew Sullivan

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis discusses distinguishing geoacoustic properties of seabeds by adaptively sampling ambient acoustic measurements using an autonomous underwater vehicle. Modern advancements in seabed characterization motivate an online method for distinguishing between two seabed types using Fourier transformed ambient acoustic noise snapshots. These snapshots are assumed to be associated with their spatial location and seabed, making the goal to organize unlabeled seabed locations. The snapshots are transformed to obtain pairwise similarities between locations. Locations with similarities exceeding a threshold are classified together with the goal of identifying all locations with similarities below this threshold using a process known as level set …

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience significant health and mental health inequities and difficulties accessing care. There are few initiatives that train mental health professionals to care and advocate for the health and mental health care needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Development Of A Discrete Element Model For Artificial Turf, Justin Rittenhouse Apr 2024

Development Of A Discrete Element Model For Artificial Turf, Justin Rittenhouse

Dissertations

NFL data exhibits a distinct correlation between an elevated lower extremity injury rate and synthetic surfaces. These ubiquitous injuries frequently relate to excessive foot traction (i.e., failure to release causing fracture or soft tissue damage). Consequently, a discrete element model was developed using open-source software to analyze stud traction. First, laboratory data was collected via bench level experiments covering seventeen different testing scenarios. A minimum of twenty-five samples were collected per scenario. Total work, average torque, and maximum torque were used as indicators of stud grip. And the latter two were statistically analyzed for outliers and significant differences. Next, an …

Development Of Novel Radiotherapy Treatment Monitoring And Quantitative Cherenkov Surface Dosimetry For Diverse Populations, Savannah M. Decker Apr 2024

Development Of Novel Radiotherapy Treatment Monitoring And Quantitative Cherenkov Surface Dosimetry For Diverse Populations, Savannah M. Decker

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

In the U.S. alone, nearly 2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer annually, and over half of them will receive radiation therapy throughout the course of their care. While widely regarded as safe, radiation therapy presents unique challenges that other procedures, such as surgery, lack. Namely, the invisible nature of the radiation itself makes it impossible to directly visualize treatment. Many immobilization and localization techniques exist to minimize the chance of incorrect radiation dose delivery, yet incidents still occur. Within the last decade, Cherenkov imaging has emerged as a new radiation therapy delivery verification technique. Cherenkov imaging is unique …

This paper presents a building-level post-hazard functionality model for communities exposed to flood hazards including the interdependencies between the population, buildings, and infrastructure. An existing portfolio of building archetypes is used to model the post-hazard physical flood functionality of different building typologies within the community with the goal of supporting resilience-informed decision-making. Specific fragility-based flood functionality curves were developed for this portfolio to quantify the exceedance probability of a prescribed set of functionality states. While the physical functionality of buildings is significant to the total functionality of a building and community resilience assessment, the functionality of utilities such as power …

A Dnp Project: Improving Clinical Alarm Management Through An Alarm Management Bundle: A Quality Improvement Project, Mary I. Alejo Apr 2024

A Dnp Project: Improving Clinical Alarm Management Through An Alarm Management Bundle: A Quality Improvement Project, Mary I. Alejo

Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract

The purpose is to increase nurses' perception toward clinical alarm management by implementing an alarm management bundle and educational skills in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The project was implemented in a 31- bed CVICU at a teaching facility in the Texas Medical Center. The Plan-Do-Study-Act was the chosen quality improvement model for the DNP project. Paper-based surveys were used to assess baseline data on competency and confidence levels of alarm management on the Philips monitor with the Healthcare Technology Foundation (HTF) Survey and the Nurse Competence on Philips Physiologic Monitors Use Survey. Active rounds were conducted to ensure …

An Exploration Of Pediatric Occupational Therapist's Perspectives On Functional And Assistive Mobility, Jennifer Allison, Amy Lyons-Brown Apr 2024

An Exploration Of Pediatric Occupational Therapist's Perspectives On Functional And Assistive Mobility, Jennifer Allison, Amy Lyons-Brown

Spring 2024 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium

Background: Occupational therapists (OTs) are highly skilled in assessing context, environment, and sensory-motor needs which are critical in addressing functional mobility and implementing assistive mobility devices. There is limited research on pediatric OT’s role in functional mobility. This study aims to explore pediatric OT's roles and perceptions of functional mobility and the implementation and use of assistive mobility devices.

Methods: Data was collected via an online survey with an option to participate in a follow-up interview. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to summarize trends and differences in the data.

Results: Twenty licensed OTs working in a variety of …
