Many modern end-user development environments support one of two visual modalities: block-based programming or data-flow programming. In this work, we investigate the trade-offs between the two modalities in the context of robotics tasks. These often contain both aspects that are better solved with blocks and others that best fit data-flow programming. To address this style of task, we present and discuss two novel programming environment prototypes, one purely block-based and one a hybrid of blocks and data-flow programming. A Feasibility Study Of Drilling Fluid Slippage For Wellbore Displacement, John Johnson

In the ideal plug-flow mode viscoplastic drilling fluids display uniform frontal velocity due to wall slippage (at very low flowrate limited by the fluid’s yield strength). The flow rate could be increased by raising the yield strength that would make the fluid best candidate for frontal displacement. Based on this concept the study qualifies wall slippage effect for wellbore displacement. Using a conceptual model of fluid motion between two parallel plates defines maximum velocity as a function of shearing rate and yield stress. To evaluate cervical cancer screening modalities and assess the reasoning that has led to primary HPV being the preferred target for screening.

Background:

History of HPV infection has been found to be correlated with cervical cancer precursor cells. Early detection of the infection is advantageous in decreasing the risk for women of reproductive age acquiring cervical cancer. The general consensus places an emphasis on implementing HPV testing in accordance with cervical cancer protocol.

The use of Telecytology in conjunction with rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) is currently at the forefront of discussion among cytologists and cytopathologists. In this meta-narrative review, the advancements of Telecytology and ROSE within the discipline of Cytology are discussed. Advancements in telecytology and ROSE enable off-site cytology slide evaluation and diagnosis through digital image transfer. ROSE allows for preliminary cytological assessment during image-guided biopsy procedures to determine specimen adequacy. The meta-narrative review concluded that the combination of these two technologies increases the efficacy of patient diagnosis without sacrificing the quality of patient care.

Investigating genetic abnormalities in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is critical due to the large number of unexplained cases, which account for around 50%. While routine karyotyping of products of conception (POC) is widely employed, its efficacy is limited by a high failure rate in cytogenetics laboratories. Thus, Chromosomal Microarray Analysis (CMA) offers a potential option, with a success rate of more than 90% when karyotyping fails. Hospitals have recorded immunocompromised patients to be highly susceptible to hospital acquired infections caused by yeasts and molds. Successfully identifying such pathogens is important for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of these infections, marking the significance of this study. Since 2010, Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has made mold identification more efficient but its usage in clinical laboratories is widely restricted. Whistleblowers and leakers wield significant influence in technology law and policy. On topics ranging from cybersecurity to free speech, tech whistleblowers spur congressional hearings, motivate the introduction of legislation, and animate critical press coverage of tech firms. But while scholars and policymakers have long called for transparency and accountability in the tech sector, they have overlooked the significance of individual disclosures by industry insiders—workers, employees, and volunteers—who leak information that firms would prefer to keep private.

The Civil Rights Attorney’s Fees Awards Act of 1976 allows courts to award attorneys’ fees to the “prevailing party” in any “action or proceeding” enforcing several civil rights-related statutes. Yet, this statute fails to define the term “prevailing party,” leaving the courts to define it over time. The Supreme Court’s piecemeal, vague definitions of “prevailing party” have only complicated the legal landscape and caused more uncertainty for potential plaintiffs and their prospective attorneys. Without the relief offered by recovery of attorneys’ fees, private litigants may be dissuaded from pursuing meritorious litigation due to overwhelming costs of representation, and attorneys may …

The Eighth Amendment is meant to protect incarcerated individuals against harm from the state, including state inaction in the face of a known risk of harm. While the Eighth Amendment’s protection prohibits certain prison disciplinary measures and conditions of confinement, the constitutional ambit should arguably encompass protection from the serious risk of harm of sexual assault, as well as a corollary to sexual violence: the likelihood of contracting a deadly sexually transmitted infection like HIV. Yet Eighth Amendment scholars frequently question the degree to which the constitutional provision actually protects incarcerated individuals.

Dental therapists have emerged as a solution to improve access to dental care. Understanding Arizona dentists' attitudes towards dental therapists is crucial in the successful integration into the dental workforce and its potential to be a viable solution. Licensed dentists in Arizona were invited to participate in an anonymous study. Participants were asked questions regarding the scope of practice, current educational standards, and quality of treatment to determine the attitudes of dentists towards dental therapists. The first manuscript incorporates the theoretical frameworks of Critical Race Theory and Occupational Socialization Theory to offer Critical Race Socialization Theory as a conceptual framework to expand the importance of how we make meaning of race throughout teacher socialization. This framework emphasizes three critical race tenets - counter-storytelling, intersectionality, and challenging color blindness – that are applied across the stages of acculturation, professional socialization, and organizational socialization. This study examined the roles of academic stress, maternal support, and their interactive effect as predictors of both in-group and out-group prosocial behaviors as well as civic engagement in order to better understand young adults’ adjustment to the college environment. The final sample consisted of 142 young adults (M age = 20.82 years; range = 18-25 years; 81.7% women; 65.2% reported identifying as racially White; 9.9% Black; 7.8% Asian; 5.7% Native; and 49.3% identified their ethnicity as Latino/a). The widespread occurrence of heavy metals in aquatic environments, resulting in their bioaccumulation within aquatic organisms like fish, presents potential hazards to human health. This study investigates the concentrations of five toxic heavy metals (Pb, Hg, Zn, Cu, and Cr) and their potential health implications in two economically important fish species (Otolithoides pama and Labeo bata) from a subtropical estuarine wetland system (Feni estuary, Bangladesh). Muscle and gill samples from 36 individual fish were analyzed using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). Background: Suicide is a leading cause of death among college age students, prompting the need for evidence-based screening tools like the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) to enable early detection and timely intervention. Inconsistencies in suicide screening may pose a risk of missed intervention opportunities. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project specifically aimed to improve the quality and consistency of suicide screening in a university student health clinic by implementing the C-SSRS tool into the clinic workflow during mental health appointments. “Anti-stripping Agents” or “adhesion promoters” can enhance the chemical affinity between asphalt and aggregate by increasing their mutual attraction. Various forms of anti-stripping agents have been proposed to mitigate pavement stripping, and siloxane-based Zychotherm is one of them. Choosing the appropriate type and dose of anti-stripping additives is no doubt vital to the intended performance. Therefore, it is critically important to determine the dose of the additives used in the modification of asphalt binders. Using the artwork and poetry of Black artist-activists Lubaina Himid, Keith Piper, May Ayim, and Raja Lubinetzki, a connection was found between the increasingly anti-immigrant rhetoric of conservative politicians of the 1980s and the self-identification and belonging of non-white communities within the countries of Great Britain and Germany. By linking the produced artwork with the direct political initiatives of the time, we are able to draw parallels between the experiences of two diasporic communities, Black Britain and Black Germany, through artists and their work. It is common scholarly and popular wisdom that racial quotas are illegal. However, the reality is that since 2020’s racial reckoning, many of the largest companies have been touting specific, albeit voluntary, goals to hire or promote people of color, which this Article refers to as “racial targets.” The Article addresses this phenomenon and shows that companies can defend racial targets as distinct from racial quotas, which involve a rigid number or proportion of opportunities reserved exclusively for minority groups. This review explores the likely clinical impact of Pregnane X Receptor (PXR) activation by vitamin K on human health. PXR, initially recognized as a master regulator of xenobiotic metabolism in liver, emerges as a key regulator influencing intestinal homeostasis, inflammation, oxidative stress, and autophagy. The activation of PXR by vitamin K highlights its role as a potent endogenous and local agonist with diverse clinical implications. Recent research suggests that the vitamin K-mediated activation of PXR highlights this vitamin's potential in addressing pathophysiological conditions by promoting hepatic detoxification, fortifying gut barrier integrity, and controlling pro-inflammatory and apoptotic pathways. Ti-5V-5Mo-5Al-3Cr (Ti-5553) is a near beta titanium alloy commonly used in aerospace applications. It is currently being explored for additive manufacturing (AM), but the fatigue behavior of this AM alloy needs to be well-understood for adoption in aerospace applications. The present work examines the tensile and fatigue behavior of LPBF manufactured Ti-5553. The effect of post-print heat treatments, effects of surface roughness, and print defects on the mechanical properties of AM Ti-5553 were also evaluated. Fatigue lives of as-LPBF and BAA material are nearly identical, and both are far below the fatigue lives of conventionally manufactured Ti-5553 of 350 MPa. …
