Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: For the current algorithm, it is difficult to obtain the available solution due to the irregularity of problem decision space caused by the numerous mixed variable optimization problems during real industrial applications. The coevolution strategy is introduced and a mixed variable particle swarm optimization algorithm(CCPSO) based on competitive coevolution is proposed. The search direction adjustment mechanism based on tolerance is designed to judge the evolution state of particles, adaptively adjust the search direction of particles, avoid falling into local optimum, and balance the convergence and diversity of the population. The learning object generation mechanism is adopted for each particle …

Handling Constrained Multi-Objective Optimization Problems Based On Relationship Between Pareto Fronts, Yubo Wang, Chengyu Hu, Wenyin Gong

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the challenges of balancing the constraint satisfaction and objective function optimization, and dealing with the complex feasible regions in constrained multi-objective optimization problems(CMOPs), a classification-based search approach is proposed based on different Pareto front relationships. A dual-population dual-phase framework is proposed in which an auxiliary population Pa and a main population Pm are evolved and the evolution process is divided into a learning phase and a search phase. During the learning phase, Pa explores unconstrained Pareto front (UPF) and Pm explores constrained Pareto front(CPF), through which the relationship between UPF and CPF is determined. After completing the …

A novel transmission surface attention mechanism is designed for the effective feature extraction of data. Compared with the traditional FCNNs, the proposed network does not arrange the data in one-dimensional manner. Instead, a element …

In Support Of Industry-Conscious Disclosure Standards For Pharmaceutical And Biotechnology Patents, Mark T. Roundtree Apr 2024

In Support Of Industry-Conscious Disclosure Standards For Pharmaceutical And Biotechnology Patents, Mark T. Roundtree

Texas A&M Law Review

One of the fundamental requirements for a patent application is a disclosure of the invention via an accurate written description with sufficient detail to enable the recreation of the invention. The U.S. patent system has historically reviewed patent applications from various industries with a uniform set of requirements and standards. However, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries operate on notably extended product development timelines and face unique administrative pressures related to their products when compared with other industries. In response to these pressures, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies have traditionally applied for patent protections through liberal use of genus claims and other …

Microcapsule Transport And Blockage In Rough-Walled Fractures, Brittney Diana Seaburn Apr 2024

Microcapsule Transport And Blockage In Rough-Walled Fractures, Brittney Diana Seaburn

Civil Engineering ETDs

Thermal short-circuiting is a potential problem for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). One solution to this problem is to reduce the permeability of very conductive fractures with thermally degradable microcapsules carrying porous polymers that bond to rock, reducing fluid flow without completely sealing the fracture. This concept requires microcapsules to principally travel in the larger, problematic fractures, minimizing entry into smaller fractures; consequently, understanding the transport and blockage of microcapsules is critical. Using a flow visualization configuration, this study involved quantifying the transport and blockage of microcapsules in transparent fracture replicas. Analyses determined most blockage occurred in regions with local apertures …

Scaling Of Buccal Mass Growth And Muscle Activation Determine The Duration Of Feeding Behaviours In The Marine Mollusc Aplysia Californica, Jeffery P. Gill, Anna Skalski De Campos, Katherine X. Wang, Isha V. Kaza, Victoria X. Fan, Hillel J. Chiel

Faculty Scholarship

The mechanical forces experienced during movement and the time constants of muscle activation are important determinants of the durations of behaviours, which may both be affected by size-dependent scaling. The mechanics of slow movements in small animals are dominated by elastic forces and are thus quasistatic (i.e. always near mechanical equilibrium). Muscular forces producing movement and elastic forces resisting movement should scale identically (proportional to mass2/3), leaving the scaling of the time constant of muscle activation to play a critical role in determining behavioural duration. We tested this hypothesis by measuring the duration of feeding behaviours in the …

General Non-Destructive Evaluation For Friction Stir Welding, Johnathon Bryce Hunt

Theses and Dissertations

Friction stir welding (FSW) is an advantageous solid state joining method for many different engineering designs. It was invented in 1991 by TWI and since that time a tremendous amount of research has been executed to understand and implement FSW in a myriad of materials in numerous industries such as aerospace, ship building, train, automotive, energy, agriculture and others. Most industries have strict weld inspection processes to validate a weld before it is put into service. One of the main weld characteristics that is measured is the size of any subsurface volumetric voids. The current standard to test friction stir …

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Glass corrosion models that capture the complex mechanisms of the glass-water reaction enable the prediction of nuclear waste glass durability in disposal scenarios. Parameterization of such models is challenging because of the need to capture changes in corrosion behavior with time, reaction conditions, and glass composition. Here, we describe and employ the ILAW (immobilized low-activity waste) glass corrosion model (IGCM) in geochemical simulations of static dissolution tests, at two temperatures (40 °C and 90 °C), for a matrix of 24 enhanced low-activity waste (eLAW) glasses statistically designed to cover a processable composition space defined by 8 major glass components (Al …

Decoding Crystallization Behavior Of Aluminoborosilicate Glasses: From Structural Descriptors To Quantitative Structure – Property Relationship (Qspr) Based Predictive Models, Yingcheng Zhang, Marco Bertani, Alfonso Pedone, Randall E. Youngman, Gregory Tricot, Aditya Kumar, Ashutosh Goel

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Successful decoding of structural descriptors controlling the crystallization in multicomponent functional glasses can pave the way for the transition from the trial-and-error approach and empirical modeling for glass/glass-ceramic composition design toward more rational and scientifically rigorous Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) based models. However, due to the compositional and structural complexity of multicomponent glasses and the longer time and length scales associated with nucleation, the development and validation of QSPR models are still in it's infancy. The work presented in the article is an attempt to leap forward in this pursuit by combining the strengths of experimental and computational materials science …

Grazing On The Arizona Strip: Catchment History And Repair, Melanie Heaton

All Current Publications

Water, not forage, is the limiting factor for wildlife and livestock grazing the Arizona Strip, a nearly 3-million-acre piece of land located north of the Grand Canyon and south of the Utah border. Since springs and groundwater are rare or absent, harvesting of natural precipitation is the main source of water for animals. Catchment systems, which capture precipitation on a sloped rubber apron and contain it in a large tank or lined pond, are used by government agencies and grazing permittees to efficiently provide water for wildlife and livestock. As catchments reach the end of their useful lives, tank replacement …

All Decisions

The landlord sued the tenant for non-payment of rent, but the court dismissed the case because the landlord's demand for rent was based on an invalid lease agreement. The court ruled that a non-payment proceeding requires a valid agreement, express or implied, to pay the rent demanded and that the rent demand must specify the exact amount owed for each period.
