This quantitative, descriptive survey study aims to determine how automation systems' purpose, performance, and process influence US regional airline pilots' trust in automation technology. By investigating human perceptions of trust in automation technology, user education and system technology may be developed to facilitate appropriate use. This paper considers Ireland’s participation for the Allies in World War I. World War I quickly turned into a war of attrition and stagnation where one side simply tried to outlast the other. But eventually the Germans gave out, and the Treaty of Versailles ended the war. Ireland’s role in the war was complicated. Prior to the start of the war, England struggled with the Home Rule issue, which would give Ireland some autonomy. The theory of the Looking Glass Self suggests that an individual’s self image is socially constructed through interactions with others. Numerous studies support this theory, finding the significance of self image in individual lives as well as the impact that people, or outsiders, around the individuals can have on their self image. In 1782 an act of the Virginia General Assembly enabled the voluntary manumission (freeing) of thousands of slaves in the 80 or so years prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. The motivation of each slave holder to free their slaves varied from individual to individual and many of the "freedom documents" give some indication as to their thoughts, beliefs, and intentions. Though it is an unfortunate historical reality that slaves were treated as chattel property, this led to a documentation process in the court system that preserved these documents for future study. This presentation analyzes the rhetoric of current Argentinian head-of-state Javier Milei—who was recently elected president in November of 2023—in relation to China. Chinese investment in Latin America has grown tremendously since the turn of the millennium, demonstrated by the exponential increase in commerce due in large part to a number of Beijing-aligned, left-leaning Latin American governments. Though his predecessor Alberto Fernández had accepted an invitation to join the BRICS trading bloc, whose most prominent member is China, the “liberal libertarian” Javier Milei maintained an aggressive stance against China during his campaign and subsequently declined the invitation. The human gastrointestinal tract (GIT) harnesses various microbial organisms involved in almost all processes of physiological homeostasis, among these are lactic acid bacteria (LAB). These bacteria, almost all of which belong to the order Lactobacillales, are able to produce lactic acid, and play an important role in food preservation because they produce bacteriocins. Bacteriocins are antimicrobial proteins that are used to fight off related bacteria in their environment that are competing for the same resources. This study focuses on a specific LAB strain, Lactococcus lactis ssp. IL1403 where 21.9% of its predicted genes have not yet been assigned a function. …

As the medicalization and legalization of the United States continues to increase it is important to understand the short- and long-term consequences of cannabis use. The endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter system is critical for the appropriate functioning of survival functions including hunger, body temperature control, memory and reproduction. When individuals use cannabis, they hijack the normal functioning of the system that attempts to maintain homeostasis. The most important short-term consequence of cannabis use is the morbidity and mortality of driving under the influence of cannabis. Disaster medicine is a division of medical care focused on immediate action in the field. Blast injuries can cause extreme injuries on impact meaning disaster medicine needs to be quick, efficient, and effective as possible. Medical professionals are facing an increase in blast-related injuries (Wolf et al., 2009). The military, paramedics, and organizations like the Red Cross use this branch of medicine. "'What The Suffering Was Like': Digital Affect In The Act Up Oral History Project, Margaret Sullivan
Remembrance: A Journal of Queer Culture, Information, and Preservation
This article considers The ACT UP Oral History Project as an affective site that renders visible the impact of loss and suffering. Focusing on the archive’s filmic and computer-mediated interviews, and placing both in conversation with memory and queer identity studies, I demonstrate that the Oral History Project, as a discursive space, invites its audience into a felt physical contact with grief, loss, anger, and rage.

The FDA announced that existing regulatory frameworks for foods and supplements are not appropriate for cannabidiol (CBD). Given the available evidence, it is not apparent how CBD products could meet safety standards for dietary supplements or food additives. A new regulatory pathway for CBD is needed that balances individuals’ desire for access to CBD products with the regulatory oversight needed to manage risks.

Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is an outgrowth of Response to Intervention (RtI). The various systems of support for students and school communities provided through these programs are integral to modern education and embedded in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) of 2004. While there are many benefits to the implementation of MTSS and RtI, there are various obstacles that can hinder successful intervention programs. The absence of consensus across districts and states with respect to program development and implementation creates confusion. This paper examines various approaches to evaluating the classroom teacher and discusses the inclusion of dispositions in the evaluation process. A random sample of 150 teachers were asked to complete an online survey focusing on the inclusion of dispositions in their formal evaluations. They were asked to report what specific dispositions were evaluated, and if the specific dispositions were operationally defined. A summary of their responses to the survey items is discussed.

This study aims to understand the ways in which problem-based teaching in a mathematics content course can alleviate pre-service elementary school teachers' mathematics anxiety. The significance of this work is to help increase the content and pedagogical knowledge of mathematics education, as outlined in STEM policies. Using a mixed method approach, the teachers-researchers explore what methods, procedures, and other perhaps unknown variables, helped pre-service elementary teachers decrease their mathematics anxiety during two mathematics content courses. The findings illuminate five major themes the authors discuss, which are illustrated by rich descriptions of students’ narratives and interviews. Given the importance of mathematics …
