N-acetyl-L-cysteine (L-NAC) is a proposed therapeutic for opioid use disorder. This study determined whether co-injections of L-NAC (500 μmol/kg, IV) or its highly cell-penetrant analogue, L-NAC methyl ester (L-NACme, 500 μmol/kg, IV), prevent acquisition of acute physical dependence induced by twice-daily injections of fentanyl (125 μg/kg, IV), and overcome acquired dependence to these injections in freely-moving male Sprague Dawley rats. The injection of the opioid receptor antagonist, naloxone HCl (NLX; 1.5 mg/kg, IV), elicited a series of withdrawal phenomena (i.e. behavioral and cardiorespiratory responses, hypothermia and body weight loss) in rats that received 5 or 10 injections of fentanyl and …

This project investigates the challenges and implications of obtaining medical certification for pilots with a history of childhood misdiagnoses, focusing on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Misdiagnoses in childhood can lead to significant obstacles in the aviation industry's medical certification process, posing unique hurdles for aspiring pilots. The study examines the current FAA guidelines and procedures for medical certification, particularly the evaluation requirements for individuals with ADHD. It also explores common challenges faced by pilots, the effects of childhood misdiagnoses on their eligibility, and the impact of the FAA's ADHD evaluation process.

A just, democratic society governed by the rule of law requires that the law be available, not hidden. This principle extends to legal materials produced by administrative agencies, all of which should be made widely accessible to the public. Federal agencies in the United States do disclose online many legal documents—sometimes voluntarily, sometimes in compliance with statutory requirements. But the scope and consistency of these disclosures leaves considerable room for improvement. After conducting a year-long study for the Administrative Conference of the United States, we identified seventeen possible statutory amendments that would improve proactive online disclosure of agency legal materials. …

Although not uncommon worldwide, consanguinity has been a part of Arab culture and tradition as a means to strengthen tribal blood relations. However, this type of union has been linked to inherited diseases, particularly those of a recessive nature (e.g., hemoglobinopathies). Furthermore, several recent studies have documented highly significant associations between consanguineous parentage and common multifactorial diseases, including but not limited to hypertension, mental disorders, and several cardiovascular diseases. This work aims to improve the power quality of the distribution system by reducing the negative impacts of electric vehicle (EV) load, such as power losses, voltage deviations and voltage unbalance factors. The voltage deviation index (VDI), voltage unbalance factor (VUF) and grid dependency for charging the EV load are minimized simultaneously for three different cases by employing a fire hawk optimization (FHO) and hybridized whale particle swarm optimization (HWPSO) algorithm. Background: Excessive alcohol consumption poses significant public health challenges, with complex socioeconomic factors influencing drinking behaviors. Understanding the relationship between socioeconomic determinants and excessive drinking patterns at the state and county levels is crucial for informing targeted interventions. Objective: To investigate the associations between excessive drinking (binge or heavy drinking) and socioeconomic factors, including median household income, mental health provider availability, health insurance coverage, educational attainment, and unemployment rates across counties in Ohio. Health-related anxiety is an under-researched and pressing issue to understand in adolescents, particularly given the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study is a randomized, waitlist-controlled trial of 10 weekly, 50-minute sessions of telehealth ACT targeting health-related anxiety in adolescents as compared to a waitlist. A sample of 30 adolescents (ages 12- 17), plus one caretaker each (N = 60), currently struggling with clinical levels of health-related anxiety were enrolled. The majority of caretakers and adolescents were White, non-Hispanic/Latine, and female. Data were analyzed using multilevel modeling across pre-, mid-, post-treatment, and one-month follow-up. This project is on enhancing pain management in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) clients via the intravenous (IV) administration of acetaminophen (Ofirmev) by multimodal regimen. The patient, intervention, comparison, outcome, and time (PICOT) question shaping this initiative looks at frequency and intensity of patients’ pain scores as well as practical outcome measures such as healing and physical therapy during the recovery period ending with discharge. These healthcare-associated infections lead to patient fatalities and incur costly, preventable expenses. Therefore, it is imperative to assess central venous catheter (CVC) maintenance protocols to mitigate the likelihood of infection. Federal guidelines advocate using chlorhexidine (CHG) dressings to lower this risk (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). This study examines the influence of aridity and vegetation cover on land surface temperature (LST) in Dodoma Urban District, Tanzania, a semi-arid environment experiencing rapid urban growth. Using Landsat 9 satellite imagery (30 m resolution) for October 2023, key environmental variables including the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), and LST were derived and analyzed using ArcGIS Pro. The study applies remote sensing techniques and spatial analysis to examine the relationships between vegetation, moisture availability, and surface temperature patterns. The “Two Horizontals and Three Verticals” major strategic corridors that have been formed can effectively promote the concentration of socio-economic factors in major urban agglomerations. However, there exists a mismatch between the north-south vertical strategic corridors and the east-west socio-economic linkages and transportation corridors. Petro-cultural production, transnational in scale and imposing in material basis, relegates oil to a paradoxical literary deferment. A systematic review of China’s low-carbon policy and paradigm transformation is imperative for establishing a well-designed policy system to achieve the “dual carbon” goals. Based on the theory of policy change, this study constructs an analytical framework of “policy objectives—policy themes—policy fluctuations”. This study uses text mining techniques and policy measurement methods to analyze 1 743 low-carbon policies implemented in China from 2000 to 2021. The study summarizes the stage characteristics and evolutionary path of low-carbon policy development in China, evaluates the contribution of each policy theme at different stages, and portrays the paradigm shift in low-carbon governance.
